A NEW Star Wars Trilogy?? | My Thoughts

all I will say is TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT Y'ALL
I usually refrain from addressing any "news" in the realm of Star Wars, primarily because I am always slow to trust unless I hear it from the lips of a Lucasfilm or Star Wars official (and they have yet to comment on the matter here, so for now I will stick to my usual game-plan and wait until official confirmation!)
Thoughts? Would y'all wanna see a post-sequels era trilogy, or something else in another timeline completely unrelated to the Skywalker Saga?

Soon as I saw Kinberg I recognised his name from Rebels. If someone is going to do a new trilogy I'd prefer it to be someone like him with history over someone new/risky.

I don't think Disney will allow much deviation from the tones: 1) Standalone ANH copy, 2) "Darker" sequel, & 3) IDK at this point. Whatever the three-movie arc they decide on, they need to set it in stone no matter who directs each film.

The thing about Kinberg is that he works as writer, director and producer. Many of those credits was as producer which doesn't say much. It's the writer and director roles I'm going to be more focused on depending which of those roles he's taking. Assuming it's actually true though and not clickbait or just something Lucas thought about, but aren't greenlighting yet.

I mean Thrawn is back, they should include him in Mando & Grogu maybe instead of making just one movie do a trilogy out of it. and for episodes 10-12 I don't know. Why not make something about the old Republic. Maybe we here more about it during celebration next year. And Disneys slate the next couple of years is quite packed

Well, maybe this will be Kinberg's sweet spot. Any small misstep towards "Fantastic Four" could be a disaster. And when you're all in with one writer for three movies? I do hope it's something new. A whole galaxy to explore, but the stories are rendered down to the same character traits--Jedi, Sith, brash youth being mentored, avoiding the seductive power of the dark side, etc. It amazes me that two ultra fundamentalist religions are the only ones in the galaxy based on The Force. I mean, if Anakin wasn't forced to hide his "bumping uglies," there would have been no Vader problem. So yeah, I'd love to see anything SW without Jedi or a light saber in it.

hi Catherine, there are only 6 REAL Star Wars movies 4-5-6-1-2-3 the rest is woke disney trash born in the 60s, i have seen almost every movie and tv show in existence, but the latest movies and tv shows i cant watch anymore they are really bad, pushing a WOKE and DEI ideology i dont care about, the only thing i care about is being entertained not brainwashed into something i am not, thats why i only have the first 6 Star Wars movies and wont be watching nor buying the ones made after, now, i re-watch everything from the 50s to the early 2000, when every movie or tv show was made for pleasure cheers Catherine

Totally agree with @glennjpanting2081. I would add that I did see the entire horrible Disney trilogy (I would only narrowly save Episode VII: The Force Awakens). I don't want to know anything about Rey (it's nothing personal against Daisy Ridley). The only salvageable one has been Rogue One, Andor, The Mandalorian and Ahsoka (consolation prize: The Book of Boba Fet).

Yet more new films rumored for Star Wars. Forgive me if I sound a little cynical, but... until it's confirmed to be in post production, I'm going to assume it simply isn't happening.It's been five years next month since they last managed to actually ship a film; we were supposed to have Rogue Squadron last year. The Johnson trilogy, Taika Waititi, the Game of Thrones guys were going to make something... but nothing. I'll believe it if it ever happens. Not before.

Not cynical, I feel the same way these days. Hence why I wanted to put this out with a healthy grain of salt, but I agree - until I see a trailer at this point, I like to just ride the wave and see what happens without getting my expectations up

I'm hesitant to believe this news as it stands because even Lucasfilm announced projects that ultimately never saw the light of day or fade into the background. So we can only speculate what Simon Kinberg's proposed trilogy will look like, but I also agree that we need to move away from the Skywalker Saga. We can't always revisit old grounds and it will help _Star Wars_ immensely by exploring new eras, stories, and characters. The Hollywood Reporter claims it will be a standalone trilogy, which sounds promising. However, for the most part, I'm holding my own excitement for when somebody finally rolls the cameras on a new _Star Wars_ film. I've been stung too many times by this. I just need them to actually DEWIT. lol And your opinion matters, Cat.

I agree, I approach and all news these days with a loooot of caution 😂 unfortunately I have become slow to trust, but I have a lot of faith in the fact that we WILL be getting back to the theaters someday soon for Star Wars. But until we get trailers for said films, I’ll be waiting patiently to see what happens without getting too invested

We can take comfort in knowing that at least two _Star Wars_ films, _Mandalorian & Grogu_ (which is slated for May 2026) and the untitled Rey Skywalker/New Jedi Order film starring Daisy Ridley, are in active development. No matter what happens to them, we will see new _Star Wars_ theatrical films in our lifetime, and we'll all be there. 💛

I'll just stick with rewatching Star Wars fan films. Which blow 7,8,9 out of the water. Even the fan film with Rey as a 8 or 9 year showing her being left on the planet to hide her was better. That Greedo in it was cool too. Get KK out of the picture and maybe it'll be worth looking at.

If this were an X-Men announcement, I'd be screaming "NO!" right now. His track record in that franchise has been very hit or miss. His Star Wars related involvement has been marginally better, so... I'll approach this with cautious, bordering on near-indifferent optimism. I dunno if that makes sense. Not a huge Kinberg fan.

I admittedly have not watched many of the recent X-Men films, so I’m curious to check them out! Seeing Rebels in his filmography is a big plus for me, but particularly other films like The Martian which I think is AMAZING

Another trilogy is pointless. There will always be conflict in the star wars galaxy so they could write an infinite amount of films going over the same story. Saying that, if it has a more cohesive story then that would cleanse the bitter taste the sequel trilogy left in my and many others mouths. I would have preferred a second season of acolyte personally. Roll on Andor!

Disney should not have anything more to do with Star Wars, they have ruined the franchise since Lucas wimped out and sold it to them. Just about everything they touch has failed. Episode 4, 5, and 6 were good. 1,2,3 were tolerable but then 7, 8, 9 were bad and everything since was worse, culminating in the failed Acolyte.

Simon Kinberg is a mixed bag. But I don't like most of what's in it that he's written. X-Men Dark Phoenix, Apocalypse, Fantastic Four etc. Not for me.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s as a HUGE fan of the original trilogy, and as far as I'm concerned, the story should have ended there. I saw the prequels, and although I didn't really like them at first, over time, I came to appreciate them. I saw _Episode VII: The Force Awakens,_ just to see what all the fuss was about. I wasn't impressed. I didn't see the last two sequels, and I have no interest in any more Star Wars films that might be made. The story was perfect as it was with the original three movies. It did NOT need to be continued, especially since George Lucas sold the franchise to Disney and ... well, we all know what happened after that. 🙄

Back a few years ago, "fan films" were much more appreciated and "permitted" by the studios. (Paramount, then Disney, effectively ruined that.) But back in the day, there were a lot of "works of love" focused on our favorite franchises. One of my all-time favorites is this one. It's a Star Wars parody of sorts...
