If I was at Nintendo's command I would have released the minis as SoC clones straight out (likely since being at Nintendo, we could have the full documentation of the custom chips to include on a SoC without emulation), with even cartridge support. Because all mini consoles were a quick money grab! When money isn’t involved and things are done for the love of something, usually the best results are yielded. Another excellent video my mans! The SNES is my favorite console of all time, and it's been a joy to watch the SNES core get built up to one that faithfully recreates every facet of that amazing device. The support alone should also help to bring together many others who also enjoy these translation patches and hacks, without the need of wondering if it will work or not. Just about 99% of the library (including hacks) just works without any further tinkering outside of setting up your controller, scaler settings, and cheats (if you want them). I really want to see widescreen hacks implemented one of these days. If you programmed the entire main board then couldn’t you force some form of widescreen? I know each game might handle tiles and culling differently but with BSNESHD you can play certain games in widescreen out of the box and more with via ROM hacking, although I’m really upset there hasn’t been much of a community formed around this. As soon as I booted Super Mario World and saw that all the graphics had been expanded to fit my monitor almost exactly I was most pleased. Unfortunately, enemies, physics and the camera are all stuck in 4:3 so you get gombas materialising in the middle of the screen almost, as if they’ve teleported from another kingdom I assume features like HD Mode 7 are impossible as you’d need an extra powerful FPGA (And yes, i know it’s not an emulator but it sounds possible to recreate at least some of these features in hardware.

How do integer scanlines work, if the display doesn't fit enough lines? Or if the display has way too many lines? For example using a classi 200 lines resolution. Would that be scaled to 200 doubled lines and 200 interleaved doubled scanlines + an unused screen space of 280 lines on a 1080p display?
@SmokeMonster5 жыл бұрын
If you have 1:1 integer scaling to 1080p hdmi you'll have a 4x scale with a border. I'm not sure how the math of the scanlines works though. You can also do 0.5x integer and 0.25x, which are still the correct aspect ratio and fill the height better.
@elmariachi51335 жыл бұрын
Thank you.So the integer part is just about having scanlines only where they are supposed to be in the original resolution, but not about scaling the lines' and scanline's height in regards to the display? This could mean that we could have the best effect with a high resolution display like 4K, wouldn't it? (If the hardware is powerful enough for scaling up to 4K without lag of course). Also thsi raises teh question if there are filters that actually could render the simulated pixles actually kind of round, with little spaces all around, like on a CRT. Don't urgently need to see the RGB triplets, though, as you usually didn't notice those, unless you where too close to the monitor :)

What is the MiSTer Patreon then? Or did you mean yours? That's all I see in the description.

With lots of pre-included lag removed from some of these games, I wonder how DOOM would run on this...

I am assuming you mean the SNES Version of Doom that also runs on a Super FX Chip.

Fun fact, I can report that the Seth Bling Super Mario World JailBreak works correctly on MiSTer. I filed a bug report on May 30, 2019 and it was fixed shortly after. github.com/MiSTer-devel/SNES_MiSTer/issues/87 This is an extreme corner case and its awesome to see MiSTer handle it correctly. This also works with the Super NT with the JB firmware from the SD card but does not work with a real cart. Seth Bling's Jailbreak: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6nYaaeklMRsZ6c

Where can I buy the complete kit?
@SmokeMonster5 жыл бұрын
It's not a kit, you just need a DE10-nano (Amazon) and the RAM add-on to play every core.

You can use RetroPie on a Raspberry Pi. It's nothing new but this stuff is awesome, nowadays there are so many ways you can play these old games. I remember a time when this wasn't the case, great time we're living in. EDIT: Holy crap this board is way too expensive compared to a Raspberry Pi 4 which has way more RAM and costs only 60 euro. Just get a Raspberry Pi and install Retro Pie, there are tons of options you can tweak for the emulation, also supports cheats and even multiplayer.
@SmokeMonster5 жыл бұрын
You should play however like like to enjoy the games. MiSTer and the Pi are fundamentally different, see my latest Neo Geo video to understand why.

It's possible if you built a cart reader and modified the cores, but no one has yet and it's not a project goal.

Bleeding edge, check. Could you (and others) *graciously* tell me or point me in the direction of what #FPGA is? I’d rather learn from other geeks vs. Google (✌️🙂🍻). And is “MiSter” a physical box or a software Emmy? I’m content with my current setup (simple RPi 3b, runs several donx very well! Early -, 2600 -> Dreamcast and nearly all in between. ). I just want to catch back up, and when I’m learning, I like to start w/experienced folks, kind enough to help! PS- “Batman Dark Knight Rises” sucks and we all know it. Happy New Year (soon)!

That's very true, and you should just play on any platform that makes you happy. The focus in MiSTer is accuracy, but that doesn't matter to a lot of people, and it's more expensive.

A fpga is supposed to replicate a console accurately and not improve on things are change things,so therefore it makes no sense , why optionally overclocking things or use a mouse to play yoshi safari??? i just could use an emulator instead, this makes no sense in my oppinion,also theres the super nt wich is also fpga based,so this is not too special for me atleast.,, am sorry.
@SmokeMonster5 жыл бұрын
You don't have to use any of them, and the stock setup has those options enabled.
