limited fast travel is one of the most based decisions an open world can make

That's what made the first game so special. I remember a time when all my party members died in a boss battle, so the long trek back to the hub area was a terrifying fight for my life. It wouldn't have been nearly as exciting if I could just fast travel back.
@fukunaga-kane9 ай бұрын
In the first game, the game would require you to set on this long journey to the north to face a Griffin on top of the tower. It was my most memorable experience in gaming. You just need to have the right mindset when playing it.

"open worlds suck" is something i still say and believe to this day. But there are a few rebel games that made me enjoy such worlds. I admit i am very interested in Dragon Dogma2, even despite the reduced fast travel The first game happen to be very cheap, i'll give it a go (once i have gotten rid of my backlog...)

@fukunaga-kane9 ай бұрын
If it helps, you shouldn't rush to your destination when playing DD2. Because it will immediately feel like a slog when you’re aiming to reach a destination ASAP by foot (without teleport stones).
@stonaraptor81969 ай бұрын
I just don't get that stance. How would loading screens make a game better? Ideally every game would be "open world" with completely seamless transitions/traversal. What people probably actually mean to say is badly designed games, checklist style boring and bland Ubisoft open worlds do suck. Huge difference though.
@lgbfjb11839 ай бұрын
I don’t want them "capcom" to simplify anything from dragon’s dogma 1, dragons dogma 1 didn’t hold your hand 🤚 in almost any aspect, had to fend for yourself, and some of the best gear in the game was some of the hardest to get I’ve seen from any other game, like certain upgrades, "cuz it’s a lot about the upgrade materials" you had to beat death, one of the hardest mini bosses I’ve encountered in any game period. Also had to hunt these extremely rare vampire beasts that you had to wait for them to bite you just for a chance they get temporarily charged with a red glow and even then wasn’t guaranteed to drop rare mats once killed, it’s truly dynamic! And I hope they follow this format into dd2
@krum19859 ай бұрын
I love DD2, and I think the lack of fast travel everywhere is part of why I love it. Dragon's Dogma 2 is just one of those too rare games I can really immerse myself in. The downside, for me, is that it feels like a big time commitment to sit down and play.

I'm someone who adores open world games, but who has either disliked or at least had mixed feelings about every mainstream open world game from the past handful of years. I feel like the games didn't know how to do open world but wanted to follow the trend, so they just made their map BIG and didn't bother to make exploration meaningful or make the world feel alive. I've found myself getting very fatigued and jaded about open world games in general. But everything I'm seeing about this game has me excited. The limited fast travel in particular inspires a lot of confidence. One of my favorite open world games is Morrowind, which has limited fast travel that fits both with the game pushing you to explore AND with the infrastructure and lore of the world. Utilizing the available methods is just part of the adventure and can make the entire journey more satisfying to execute. If Dragon's Dogma II does it even half as well as Morrowind, it'll be a feature that only enhances the game.

The idea of no fast travel is to “enjoy the journey, not the destination”. You might need to take things slow as if you’re playing Death Stranding.
@Zwei229 ай бұрын
There is technical fast travel. Wakestones and carts allow you to fast travel to towns. Granted the wake stones cost 10,000 and I don't know how much ox cart rides cost. 10,000 may seem like a lot, and it is, but everything in the game is expensive in comparison. Apparently single armor pieces cost 10-30k easily early game. So we will have to see about the money cost but, if there is a way to farm money, you should be able to buy fast travel stones for towns at minimum.
@Y4manata9 ай бұрын
Im not worried about dynamic encounters cuz the first game did it fairly well, im more skeptical about how long until they get repetitive into the late game cuz it's a problem in the first game as well. I hope itsuno can back that claim up not just at early game only

Nobody tell him about the fast travel microtransaction DLC, I'm not saying that discredits the points made, but it definitely undermines the devs intentions as not artistic but rather commercial in nature.
@mhswoocer9 ай бұрын
Just wanna point out that to my knowledge, the dlc only adds port crystals, not ferry stones. Ferry stones are what you need to fast travel so even if you buy more port crystals, the amount you could fast travel would still be very limited. Equally, you can obtain port crystals in game for free. However this game is still pretty new so it's totally possible I'm missing something here

Alot of skills turned into core abilities (can use them whenever) so not really a downgrade. Example, ayodyne the heal spell for mage is a core skill now

@@firefistgaming117 Interesting, about that, how much did Mystic Archer changed, besides losing the Dagger related abilities?
@firefistgaming1178 ай бұрын
@@asafesseidonsapphire honestly After playing it a bunch my opinion is mixed on the matter, I think Ayodyne as core skill, Quick spell and Galvanize are legitimate game changers in how mages/sorcerers Operate in DD2. Despite losing the extra skill slots I feel they actually are pretty balanced with new system and work very well, Def more fun to play then DD1 Mage& Sorc IMHO (plus they can attack while levitating now which is dope). Buuut Every other class the lack of the other 4 Skills HURRRTS, Magic archer feels stronger in DD2 then in 1 sure, id wager Most the classes feel stronger then the DD2 counterparts and Mystic Spearhand is OP and fun af to play. But the 4 skills only per class kills creativity and Class differences I feel like and just isn't as "Fun" to run around with reduced skills, the core abilities for martial classes definitely don't make up for losing out on Daggers and such for Archers and Magic archer despite The Stronger abilities.
