Outstanding video.. we need to have "sponge cities" with wetlands and natural vegetation to prevent both flooding and heat waves. Natural is the way to go!!!!!

What about when work has been done in the past and got rid of much of the natural floodplain near the coast in a town and it has been built on? How would you mitigate risk of flooding?

At a time when billions of dollars in Indian budgets are being marked for narrowing of rivers and artificial 'beautification' of river banks - this movie comes as a fresh reminder of how a river encroached and narrowed must be RESTORED back as much as possible to its original form - by restoring its wetlands to it.

Can you tell me why the UK Environment Agency do the complete opposite in the UK, even though they were involved in making and promoting this film?

Ottimo, bisognerebbe che tutti gli amministratori lo guardassero costantemente.

FYI - there's a typo at 7 seconds... you have "ours rivers"... should be "our rivers" :) But great video!!

Ahh, as much as it's a really, really basic video. It's concepts like this that need to be pushed towards policy makers. The U.K is experiencing terrible flooding every year because our policy makers either do not fund enough into flood-prevention or they do not understand how to prevent floods better. Possibly it's both reasons. "Dredging" is also another way to prevent flooding, but also can cost a lot of money.

...and the UK Environment Agency (EA) were involved in this film...so, as a friend just said elsewhere..'Why don't the EA 'practice what they preach' here in the UK????. The Environment Agency and Natural England do the complete opposite in the UK with mass tree and vegetation riverbank fish, bat, bird, and all wildlife habitat destruction to run the excess water off to sea asap, causing flooding of downstream towns, under their guise of flood defence?

they're still doing it? no wonder i can't find too many examples of realising the "making space for water" strategy :/

hey, this video helps me to develop my expose of my master thesis about the resilience landscape for urban flooding in Ciliwung River, East Depok, province West Java, Indonesia :D than you so much. I focus on water catchment since the beginning :) i think, If you know some important websites related to the theme of my thesis or if you are interested in collaborating and exchanging ideas with discussions in the virtual space, I will be happy :) free to contact me per mail.
