For 30 years, researchers have known that Huntington’s disease is caused by an inherited genetic mutation, but they didn’t know how the mutation leads to brain cell death. Now, new findings reveal a surprising underlying mechanism that suggests potential ways to delay or even prevent the disease.
“This is a really different way of thinking about how disease arises from genes and genetics," said co-senior author Steve McCarroll, "and we think that it will apply beyond Huntington's disease.”
