The thing is dry skin can’t be acne prone. Because acne causes by oiliness, which dry skin hasn’t. So your skin is basically dehydrated and you need to stop using acids and retinoids, get more moisture to skin. Then you’ll see oily skin with acne 🙂

Nice video ! I think you forgot to mention that you're not supposed to use salicylic acid and differin together on the same night, that can cause irritation and differin wouldn't work as well as it's supposed to. Dr. Dray has awesome videos on differin and the ways to use it for anyone interested.

Only a few minutes into the video but YES TO SIMPLIFYING YOUR SKINCARE 🙌🏻 I struggled with breakouts all through my teen years (22 now), and the past year or so I literally stopped everything and only used cetaphil gentle skin cleanser and cerave moisturizing cream and my skin dramatically changed for the better. I also stopped wearing makeup every single day (except mascara and a little brow touch up). I’m back into wanting to try new skincare now, and it’s so much easier to tell if something is causing me irritation because I know my true baseline now, if that makes sense.

I know benzoyl peroxide is very drying and can be sensitizing. But for me is fundamental to have an active that directly kills acne bacteria. Personally, I use a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cleanser, it doesn't dry me out because of the low percentage, and because it's a wash off treatment. I would recommend that to a sensitive skin routine if you want to add some benzoyl peroxide.

I use tretinoin 0.05 and I have sensitive skin. Some people may also think they have acne with their sensitive skin and it can actually be rosacea which can mimic it. Its best to avoid acids with sensitive skin. I agree with the simple routine. I only use cleanser, moisturizer and treatment. The dermatologist is the best resource when it comes to sensitive skin.

As someone with super sensitive skin, I really appreciate that you made this video. Can you please make a routine for people with milia prone skin?
@mimipeltomaki-virta8704
@mimipeltomaki-virta8704 3 жыл бұрын
In case she doesn't, general idea with milia is to: Firstly, make sure your skin is exfoliated enough so that no gunk gets stuck in the skin (not in the pores) but overexfoliating or doing it too roughly somehow makes you more prone to them, so don't go crazy with machine made exfoliations or whatever they are called in english. Best idea is to find a working vitamin a retinoid/retinol for you and figure out how often you need to use it to get the best results. And of course start slowly. Second thing is to make sure you don't put anything too thick or clogging on your skin or overmoisturize (not overhydrate, moisturize). Worst offenders are paraffins and petrolatums and their oils. Too much oleic acid (for example, olive oil, coconut oil) might be too much too. Also favor sun screens with a lighter texture and make sure no sun damage adds to the milia proneness (also important when using the vitamin a of course). Thirdly, make sure you HYDRATE and moisturize enough. When the skin is dry and/or dehydrated the surface is more hard than soft so it is harder for any kind of unwanted gunk to get out. You also need less moisturizer if you go heavier with essences and water-based serums, which is more milia friendly. Leave removal to a pro if the milia won't go away with this kind of a routine in 6-9 months, it is really difficult, near impossible to do it safely and hygienically enough at home. Removal done wrong most often leads to getting a new, bigger milium in it's place. This is coming from a beauty advisor who also struggles with extremely sensitive (and multi-allergic) skin and milia. Hope this helps if Susan is not giving any better advice with a video :)
@lollipop5379
@lollipop5379 3 жыл бұрын
The differin should help your millia. If you can’t get a hold of it, AHAs and BHAs are your best friend. Got rid of my milia. Also, I read somewhere that honey helps. I don’t know if that’s true, but I have been using the Cosrx Propolis toner that contains 10% honey extracts and it helped a lot too.

This video couldn't have come too soon - a combo of mass retinoid use, pandemic stress and mask-wearing has stressed out soooo many skins - I feel like most people under 45 are dealing with sensitivity right now! My product recommendation is The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc serum - the zinc fights acne and the niacinamide calms/soothes the skin while strengthening it.

No, I respectfully disagree. This vid is not good for sensitive, prone-acne skin. Please stick to one only. And don’t use salicylic acid with differin. Can use in the morning to cleanse tho. Please keep your routine simple when using retinoids. And lastly don’t scrub cuz it tends to penetrate deeper and will cause more irritation. And if you’re doing a waiting phase to see for reaction don’t use another treatment in between cuz duh it will defeat the purpose 🙄😒😁 hope this comment saves someone ✌🏼💜

@Zubstep1315
@Zubstep1315 3 жыл бұрын
@@annalouiseplease Unfortunately copper peptides and benzyl peroxide are those two mean girls who don’t let anyone else sit with them and peptides hate vitamin C so my only advice is maybe just finish your aha toner (cause we love the environment:) and see if you can fit or rearrange the actives in your products by using them in different forms like cleansers or toners that can be layered with other actives like serums and essences after waiting a few minutes. Reactions really occur when you don’t wait and just slather all the products on on top of the other without waiting for them to sink in so id even venture to say you could use the peptide serum with the aha toner but just wait until your toner dries down before layering. Also finding products that are formulated in a lab with combinations of actives like retinoids and peptides is a safer bet rather than playing chemists in our bathrooms with layering ingredients. It’s all a journey and if you figure it out girl lmk cause I’m constantly switching my routine up based on what my skin is telling me and she is bipolar af lol

For the people who have super sensitive skin who have always thought they have oily skin cuz their skin was always oily but felt dry to the point of your skin cracking when you get out of the shower and on top of that have acne prone sensitive skin where you get big oil pimples (don’t know the technical word lol) listen up. Two months ago I started using naturiums niacinamide serum and got hooked. So two weeks ago I bought the niacinamide gelee, the niacinamide retinol cream and the naturiums plant ceramide rich moisture cream. At night I take off my makeup with Simple makeup removing wipes, put on the naturiums niacinamide gelee and leave it on my dry skin for a few min then wash it off with a sonic brush, then put on the niacinamide serum, and the retinol cream. In the morning I do almost the same except obviously the makeup wipes and I add a little of the naturiums plant ceramide rich moisture cream on to my skin before my makeup. I have yet to have a big breakout since using it and my skin has honestly never looked and felt so good. It’s insane how much even my skin texture has changed. Worrying about that always seemed like a luxury cuz I was always worried about my massive breakouts! Naturium has honestly saved my skin!

i know you commented this a long time ago now, but just wanted to give a tip about makeup removal-- instead of makeup wipes, try using a cleansing balm (it turns into oil in your hands) on a dry face and it will dissolve and remove everything!! the benefits are way greater than wipes because wipes tug and push product into your pores, even if you're double cleansing and its environmentally friendly! take care xx

I started by just adding the niacinamide serum into my normal routine and then added the rest in and swapped out all my old stuff at the same time two weeks ago and my skin has never ever looked like this!

Guys, please be careful with using salicylic acid cleanser and differin at the same time. Various dermatologists suggest that these products cancel each other out - you should use differin at night and salicylic acid the next morning. You can use benzoyl peroxide with differin. And also please put moisturizer before differin, especially people with sensitive skin - it will really change your whole routine. You should use differin at least 3 times a week to see results. Wish everyone clear skin! 🌷

so genetically youre either a dry or an oily skin type. there's no ways around that. your skin condition can be anything though. what a lot of people experience is an impaired skin barrier function, whether that's just from poor diet (lack of essential fatty acids), too much exfoliation and actives, reactions to products, etc. repairing this barrier function will benefit you so much more than going straight into treating your skin that targets pigmentation. The order to work through is: 1. redness (barrier function) 2. Acne/blemishes (not all breakouts are caused by oil, can be caused by being too dry) 3. pigmentation 4. texture. the reason you do this is because if you start treating pigmentation before dealing with your barrier function you will create more problems. It can take actual years to fully repair a skin barrier. retinoids are definitely something that can mess up your skin. not everyone needs to be on one because you need to address other things first. It's a shame susan didn't mention azelaic acid too. especially for people who suffer rosacea sensitive, papulopustular rosacea even, skin this ingredient is fantastic at reducing sensitivity, strengthening the barrier, reducing breakouts by any p.acnes. One last tea bit, if you're having super sensitive skin, i'd highly recommend products from brands like cetaphil, QV, maybe cerave, because these are designed for genuine sensitive skin and they function as they say and they dont add extra skincare benefits to it, which can clash with everything else youre doing. There's so much to this topic. I'm happy susan said that she's not a skin therapist, I'm glad she said to separate these treatments and be super slow with it all. There's just so much about skin that you can't put in a 10 minute video. Just please educate yourself more before buying a whole lot of products to fix any skin need you have.

I thought you shouldn’t use salicylic acid with retinoids. I know it’s in the cleanser and it will get rinsed off but I’m sure some would get absorbed into the skin, then if you use retinoids like adapalene after it then they would cancel out each other? A benzoyl peroxide cleanser is probably better at night and leave the salicylic acid cleanser for the next morning

Pillowcases are a HUGE culprit. I was finding my skin was clear when I went to sleep, and then terrible when I woke up, mostly on the side I sleep on. Turns out that pillowcases should be washed every couple days. I found this helps, but it may also be my fabric softener or detergent. I am trying a clear detergent, and will be doing without fabric softener on my pillowcases and I am pretty sure that's going to be what has been causing my problems. That and leaning cheek into my hand when I am at my desk. Big no no!
