Well if you're a cisgender individual then probably you do. But as a non-cis person, those kind of things happen only a very few times. So yes, a random stranger can make you feel valid. As an NB person, I feel the most comfortable and confident when I'm more androgynous looking. My voice is even androgynous naturally. I was born a female, so there are days where I am a little self conscious of certain features of mine, but for the most part I am comfortable in my own body. I like clothing from every section of the store. I knew at a very very young age that I wasn't fully a female. I'd "jokingly" tell people that I'm a chick, but I'm also a dude. Sadly, I wasn't aware of the term gender fluid until I was older. When I learned about it, something just struck a chord. I burst into tears. Finally for the first time in my life, something describes how I've always been feeling. I'm 32 and just now coming out as NB. Seeing videos like this help me feel valid and make me feel less alone. So far I've been met with open arms when I've told people, both in my personal life and online. I'm so thankful that we're moving towards a more progressive world where people can truly be themselves and live their lives with pride and not fear. And if someone is reading this who is NB and hasn't come out yet, it's ok. Tell someone your truth, even if it's just one trusted friend for now. I promise you...there are more of us than you realize and there are more allies than you would think too. You are loved, you are valid, you are worthy of happiness, safety, and respect.

Hi all, So this was my first time learning about non-binary, what are enbys? I remember someone in a meeting about 4 years saying this and not knowing what they meant, I just caught that she preferred to be referred to in the plural. Interestingly my mother tongue doesn’t have gender pronouns, it merely has 2 pronouns; for humans and everything else non-human. So learning English getting gender pronouns right was a challenge, still is for many of us. With that said, I think patience and understanding from all sides (binary and non-binary) is needed as we come to a place of commonality and understanding. I don’t condone discrimination in any way, shape or form. I simply think mistakes we will be made all around, and rather than retract to our corners in anger and frustration, let’s be consistently cognizant of the dual journey we’re all taking to a better common ground. Thanks for this video
@williamcarter82634 жыл бұрын
English is weird. They / them can be used to refer to a group or an individual without specifying gender. It’s not necessarily plural all the time, but rather a pronoun that doesn’t restrict people to a binary gender system.. It’s not she / her but rather they / them.

I'm AFAB nonbinary and primarily attracted to cis males. I often worry that this will make it harder for me to be taken seriously as nonbinary. It also hurts me that gender norms and roles and appearance standards mean so much to so many in this world. I have a very Flamboyant creative appearance that doesn't conform to gender norms or appearance norms in general. I just want to be myself, and anything that gets pointed out by others as being "gendered" about me makes me feel socially dysphoric. I have a hormonal imbalance (that I'm treating with birth control pills) that has given me chin hair and I love my chin hair. It makes me feel attractive, confident, comfortable, and has relieved most physical dysphoria for me. I like to downplay any curvyness with baggy clothing, but overall, for me, the physical dysphoria isn't nearly as bad as the social dysphoria.

I’m glad I randomly found this because I am feeling exactly the same way as you! I am not exclusively attracted to males, but most of the time, I am. I am feminine some days, masculine others. I am misgendered daily. It baffles me because in my eyes/mind, I am completely androgynous. My advice: do your best to never compromise the way you want to look. Society has yet to evolve enough to be super easy for trans and enby people. This is sad, but that’s why it’s important to hold fast to your morals and the way you want to present, and find people online and irl who can support you. It isn’t easy but it can be done. Your own confidence is key. Hope you are doing well ❤️🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈

quick question, can a born blinded person be non-binary? Would they feel compelled to dress, or modify their bodies in a certain way? The argument on how someone diabetic would want to take pills, or one taking vitamins, or when cutting your hair in the summer so you don't feel hot. I think what they all have in common is to be intrinsically comfortable. TO BE COMFORTABLE, a compelling argument. However, how does one's fashion, sense of style will instrically make you feel comfortable? Again would a born blind 'non-binary' be compelled to shift in style a certain way?
@Traditz4 жыл бұрын
Also, what does fashion and sense of style has to do with gender? Like the speaker was talking about, what does fashion like shorts or skirts has to do with gender. Also if it is about 'comfort', why do a lot of non-binary people have to go out of their way to have some of the most 'craziest' fashion styles. Is it to stand out to get attention, or to be 'comfortable in their own skin'? I think it's the former.
@gene13314 жыл бұрын

Traditz i think sometimes it’s not about being comfortable for yourself but for other people because you don’t want to be misgendered, so if the world sees you as your gender, then you will be happy. And maybe that’s why some non-binary ppl dress extravagantly, because they don’t want to appear as a traditional man or woman. And even though a blind person can’t look in the mirror, they could feel their body with their hands and think something is or isn’t supposed to be there, and they could definitely feel social dysphoria from being misgendered

Answering to OP: Yes! A NB people would change certain aspects of their socialization, because they would like to be perceived in a different way. It would rely on the feedback of sighted people, though.
@jackriver83854 жыл бұрын
Well fashion doesn't say a whole lot about gender. There's cross dressers who still identify as the gender they were born as, and there's also trans people, who don't. However you express your gender is entirely up to you. I guess a blind person wouldn't be as likely to change their style, but they may change what pronouns they prefer, or they may change their name. I don't think all that many non binary people have crazy styles. Some do, of course, but that's also the people you know are non binary. I've been strongly questioning my own gender lately, and I'm pretty sure I'm agender, which is part of being nonbinary. But if you saw me somewhere out in public, you probably wouldn't realise that as I pretty much look like a woman. It's more internal than anything.

Two migrants who came to America from Mexico after cartels killed their entire families and took over their town following Operation Fast and Furious are picking grapes for 80 hours a week in a 100 degree field in the hot sun. One says, in Spanish, “esse, I think I experience dysphoria identifying with either gender” the other migrant sits down and decides to spend 5 years learning perfect English - which doesn’t reinforce the gender binary as easily as Spanish - and then proceeds to stay up all night, spends 2 weeks wages on literature, and decides to just not sleep except 2 hours a night so he can read 8,000 pages of Judith Butler to understand their cisgendered privilege. They are both really happy now picking grapes in the hot sun for 80 hours a week, especially the cis ally because of his newfound knowledge of his cisgendered privilege. He even jumps in glee as he denies the existence of God, and any salvation in the afterlife for his family, as his Christian beliefs, an archaic byproduct of imperialism, reinforced dominant narratives. :-D Yay!

I was wondering if this was suppose to be a scientific agreement. I am asking because I am curious. I have not heard a talk like this before. It sounds like a person desires to changes their gender is because they see it will make them happy. Live your best life is the motivation.

@@Mel-wn9gb Exactly. What's wrong with being a feminine man or a masculine woman? I mean it's not ideal but people are different. These people are spreading dangerous message saying be woman if you feel like woman. You can feel like something you are not. You cant be a truck or a tree because "You feel like it" or "you identify as it". This world is getting crazy.

I think its great for people to express themselves and live in anyway they please, just so long as you are not trying to extort conformity to your worldview through censorship and mob intimidation like they do at Universities.

Gender Dysphoria is a mental health problem and can be a symptom of things like trauma. Changing the body won't help many people, you need to get the right type of therapy and sort your brain out.

What is a polite way to address someone who's non-binary? like sir, ma'am, (?_?) what would be an equivalent?
@冯勤-v2h2 жыл бұрын
Honorifics for nonbinary people include "tiz" (short for citizen), "mir" (a mix of "sir" and "ma'am"), and many others.

What will happen in the future doesn’t matter. The most important thing is what makes someone feel good and comfortable and at home in their body at this point in their life Until they realize they are going through some ridiculous phase and want more than anything to change back to what they once were
