Hi Jim, You probably read my comment on Twitter, I was so angry at those idiots who voted for the orange one. But I won’t put anymore political statements here because this is not the right channel for it. We’re here to discover, discuss and enjoy music, no more.

Well spoken ... there's a big difference in politics between Americans and Europeans - fortunately there isn't any in music

A quality video Jim. Music unites us. Politics divides us. Everyone’s opinion is equally valid. Disagreement is healthy.

I hate how politics has become such a big moral thing “they’re evil. We’re right your wrong”. Entertainment is how you get away from the politics. But now artists, KZbinrs, podcasters, they all have someone that they want you to choose. Thank you so much for keeping this a politics free zone and continuing to be one the best music channels on KZbin!

Politics has always been about morality. Slavery, civil rights, women vote. I mean come on. Gotta have a better both sides take than that!

That was a very non-political statement re the channel but I have it on good authority that neither Trump nor Harris are prescribers. Not sure about Starmer or Badenoch but I can't really picture them headbanging to Maiden or even stroking their chins to ELP. Any other leaders of major parties lurking on here? Not you, Ed Davey, I said MAJOR parties. 😁

These constant appeals that politics has no place in music are misguided, as politics has been intertwined with music for a long time now. The political nature of people can’t simply be debated away in forums. Suggesting that people should just “enjoy” a KZbin channel and ignore politics comes across as naive-and even a bit cowardly-in light of world history. Besides, it’s entirely possible that neither option in an election is truly the right one. Expanding on this idea, it becomes clear that music, as an art form, has always reflected and responded to the social and political climates in which it is created. From folk songs that gave voice to oppressed communities to protest anthems that inspired movements, music often carries political messages, whether explicitly or implicitly. To ignore this aspect of music is to ignore a fundamental part of what makes it so impactful. In our interconnected world, it’s unrealistic-and perhaps even irresponsible-to ask artists or listeners to set aside their political beliefs. People don’t experience art in a vacuum; they bring their values, concerns, and hopes with them. Suggesting that music should be apolitical not only misses the point but can also diminish its potential to inspire reflection, solidarity, and even change. In the end, a world where music lacks political engagement may seem peaceful, but it risks becoming hollow and disconnected from the realities of the time. Such “all is well, just enjoy” contributions will undoubtedly find plenty of applause from those who prefer a sanitized, feel-good version of reality-one that requires neither critical thinking nor engagement with the uncomfortable truths of our world.

I don’t dispute that politics touches every aspect of our lives and influences our decisions and actions, but division and fragmentation in the real world doesn’t have to carry over here. My own political views are mine alone, and yours are yours. They are certainly worth sharing and talking about in appropriate arenas. However, I don’t think this is it. Music has always been politically motivated as you have identified, and I would never advocate its sanitisation. You’re completely missing the point. Articulated and academic political discussion is obviously normal and part of life. Taking sides and belittling others who don’t share your view is not. Maybe what I meant to say is I don’t want tribalism proliferating in my comments section.

Your view that politics shouldn’t spill into this space ignores the reality that no platform, including KZbin, is truly separate from the political sphere. Politics already permeates every aspect of our lives, and to imagine that a music channel can be insulated from it is wishful thinking. Saying that politics belongs only in “appropriate arenas” may sound balanced, but it ultimately promotes a “peace, love, and harmony” approach that avoids engaging with the real political undercurrents of our time. Music, art, and culture have always been political, and trying to keep this space neutral ultimately caters to those who prefer a sanitized version of reality-even if that may not be your stated intention.

@@alexanderpotukar2176 This is simply a person requesting in a polite and friendly manner that divisive political discussion be kept away from his particular KZbin channel - which has never been about politics anyway, mind you - as to make it more enjoyable and welcoming to all. There is no reason why politics needs to permeate everything and spill into apolitical areas like a KZbin channel like this one. Unless people like you insist on forcing it on others against their specific request. And frankly, you're using some quite judgemental words there - naive, cowardly, ignorant, wishful thinking - that I find completely uncalled for and unfair. Just be a decent person and respect the man's friendly request, why don't you? This really should not be that hard.

There are places where you discuss politics. Here we talk about music. Sure you are right, the lyrics in songs are often political, but also about love and sex or they tell us fantasy or horror-storys. So what ? When you want to speak about sex or horror-storys there are other forums. The same with politics.

@@Bikonito Perhaps, as an Englishman he does not feel that it is his place to disown or embrace anything about an election in the USA. Viewed from Europe (I'm in a different part of Europe to Jim), American politics in general comes off as the antithesis to inclusivity. I think you're kind of proving that exact point with your unwillingness to accept that an Englishman wish to simply not have a discussion about a US election but demand that he disowns one of the two parties to accept him as welcoming. I don't think the issue here is that Jim is anything less than welcoming to all but that you will not accept the welcome without a set of stipulations which would be less welcoming to some.
