A Northerner visits the Hampshire Avon! Hunting a classic Avon Roach! UK coarse fishing.

I had a visit to the south of England to visit relatives, and this time made sure I had time to visit my fellow you tube buddy Ben Eveling, at his converted water mill on the lovely river Avon.
We stayed in Salisbury and I managed to grab a session on the day ticket town water of the Avon. one or two surprises in store!

I use to fish the lower Avon, at Ringwood, long trotting for chub on bread, caught plenty of chub & Trout on bread. Even managed Salmon on trotting bread, landed a few. Hooked one salmon, was upper double possible 20lber, cleared the water several times, eventually it cut the line. That was an experience ill never forget 😳😳 Great times on the Avon.

Yes, iconic river. Bread seems to catch everything on chalkstreams! up here its more a silvers bait.👍👍

Great video! It's lovely that showed Harnham water meadows, it's always looks so Roachy around there!. I have family in Salisbury but never fish those stretches, I'll definitely try next winter, that Roach was definitely worth the trip!

Thanks! Tbh it's hard on unfamiliar water, given persistence I've probably more chance of a 2 pounder on my local river ribble but there's something special about the hants avon. You'd be better of with a season ticket being relatively local, day ticket option doesn't cover Harnham water meadows, I just had to admire without touching! 😢 👍

That’s a great looking venue at around the 2:00 mark. Shame the fish didn’t play ball. Some nice fish in there too and the roach at the end was lovely! Come back when it’s warmer.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one Dave 👍, that tail splash on that big trout was mega! Nice touch having your tackle breakdown at the end credits 😀. Just had a very similar experience last weekend on a very sad looking chalk stream in Cotswolds (Windrush), lots of OOS trout on bread and just the one roach (which are like rocking horse s*** on there due to the ongoing pollution problems!).

I dare say I could perhaps have found more roach given another morning or so, I did lose a couple of smallish fish which weren't trout or minnows, and had a small dace (not enough room on the video!) But I think it's the time of year when trout wake up and bully other species out of the way! They didn't look like stockies to me Thanks Joel !

Very nice. I am on the game section of Sadac and I fish above Salisbury for trout on the fly. Winter trotting for Roach though is 2nd to non. Lived here all my life. 71 now and best Roach 2lb 14oz. Close😊

That's great, Brian! I'll bet the dry fly for trout is non-too shabby, either! Especially around mayfly time. I love roach of any size, but upwards of a pound they are really special! 😊

Yep, the Mayfly were very hit and miss this year but to have 23 miles of chalk stream for £270 a year plus the course fishing it brilliant value for money.

Why that's awful kind of you sir! Its often the case that you do better on familiar waters than the classics! I've probably more chance of catching a 2 pounder on my local River Ribble than chancing my time on unfamiliar town water! All the same, totally enjoyable, its an interesting world, that of the chalk streams, water meadows, carriers etc there's just so much river bank and the quality fish could be anywhere! I'll take a look at your channel 👍👍

@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 ye it was quality fishing over 2 years ago but you now how rivers are they go up and down but over all thro All of the fish species this year has been the worse year to date for fishing on the avon we had a lot of problems this year but if u now were to look there's still some very nice gems 💎 nocking around
