5:18 Stark wave top detail means the visible horizon is way too close for a flat earth. On a pancake world you should be able to see the immediate waves behind the detailed shape waves. But only just sky and visually no sign of any waves at all behind the detailed waves. Earth is not flat.

@@sleepingwarrior4618 So just insults and name calling from you too Sleepy? Too bad reality destroys your Flat Earth. So when are you going to answer the questions you keep running away from? Nathan got so triggered when you conceded an aircraft will drift off course unless corrections are made. You also conceded that a plane can fly a precise track on a rotating Earth by making corrections. You whined about the Roundabout example but when you realised I had you cornered you ran. Lets try again here, just to watch you run away. This is the comment you ran from. Aircraft glide perfectly well and correct timely application of Math to determine gliding range and endurance can save the aircraft from a crash. i.e. The Gimli Glider. I told you I would be back to check your progress. You didn't answer the question on the wind triangle. Is it too hard for you? You totally botched the question on climb gradients. You answered 100 mph to a question requiring an answer in lbs. You don't even understand the question. Sleepy said "You would MEASURE it Wolfie." Incorrect answer. That won't give you the safe take off weight. But I will humour you to watch you fail again. Assume we weigh the aircraft as you suggested and get 48,500lbs. Can the aircraft take off and meet FAR 25 obstacle clearance requirements? Yes or No? If No, what weight will allow this? You can use the simplified data I provided but no math. if you can't do it, go home kid because you lose again. You did twist my words. I said "The application of Math correctly in aviation is literally a matter of life or death" You said "You claimed applied maths is what saves your planes from crashing" Are those words the same? Yes or No? In some cases applied math can save a plane from crashing. Like when gliding after an engine failure. Do you think we just point the plane and hope for the best? If my glide ratio is 15 to 1 and I am at 45,000 ft what is my gliding range in nautical miles? Subtract 5 NM for the circuit from high key. What is the maximum distance to look for a suitable airport? Do it without using any Math. (Q Branch could do that easily using Math) If my optimum glide speed is 200 Knots minus 1 knot per 500 lbs below Max Take off weight how do I determine best range glide speed at my current weight? No Math. Good luck.

@FlatEarthStigma So you have no math for a prediction? The lower observation should have a straight line to the shore, but it can't see the shore. At the same time, it has a longer distance and larger angle to the top of the lighthouse, which it sees without any issue. The second observation is closer to the level of the lighthouse. Suddenly the land is visible despite the increase in distance from the observer to the land. Plus the angle to the lighthouse has changed yet what we see wasn't affected at all. You're trying to tell us angles make a difference while ignoring how the video shows angles aren't making any difference to the parts of the lighthouse we see from both locations. The ground is beneath the lighthouse so the distance is identical. Yet the ground is the only thing affected by your so-called idea about angles while the lighthouse remains unchanged. So why does your idea only apply to the ground and not anywhere else? Shouldn't we have the same issue with seeing the tops of mountains? In case you need help, we don't observe any issues seeing the tops of mountains. #gottalietoflerf
@NinjaMonkeyPrime

@FlatEarthStigma At sea level, the angle where the water hits the sky is not increasing, it's zero. You have it totally backwards. The angle to the horizon increases as you gain elevation, not lower. But thanks for debunking that the horizon doesn't rise up to eye level. Nathan and Dubay will be happy you corrected them. So no math we can use to test observations? Sad.

You will note that the moon doesn't change significantly in apparent diameter, from rise to set. The supposed flat Earth 'model' implies that the moon's apparent diameter should change very significantly. Flat Earthers claim that the moon's distance from Earth's surface is just a handful of thousands of miles, and that the moon is a relatively small disk. But this cannot be true in any way, as you can only ever see the same face of the moon, at any position on Earth. 04:56 is a shot of the camera on the beach which shows beautifully the difference between winter and summer Sun angles. The gently sloped beach is like Winter and is clearly darker than the steep bank that is like Summer. It isn't a shadow as you can see the shadows from the sea weed. The relative darkness of the beach sand is because the light and heat of the Sun is being spread out over a much bigger area. . The angle of shot relative to the Sun means the sea is at such a shallow angle it looks like it is all in shadow like the beach but more so. The bright wide and long reflection of the Sun glare on the sea shows it is a gently undulating surface rather than high waves.

*The @Kenneth Weiss Rules* 1. _"Basic geometry only applies if it has been done from space while some one doing the basic geometry is physically in space to see the earth as a ball"_ Since we cannot see the something basic like a house in it's entirety on the ground, we cannot even measure a house until we can see the house from above. This means using a drone and removing the roof and separating the floors. In a nutshell, geometry can't be used on Earth to measure Earth because you can't see Earth in it's entirety first to measure and apply geometry. You might ask yourself, how we're supposed to measure from the drone view or from space (there's another rule on cameras but I'm being kind by eliminating it). Kenny isn't clear on that, but in the end it doesn't matter because of #2. 2. _"Calculations are not measurements"_ Say goodbye to construction and surveying just to name a few. We cannot calculate square footage or acreage because those use calculations and that's not measurements. Farwell alcohol by volume, miles per hour, and body mass index, you will be missed. And yes this was done as a new comment to support Kenny's hide and seek adventures with the reply button.

Hia Wolfie6020, here is a photo and Photoshop small tips that can be useful in a debate with flat-earthers. 1: Mount the camera on a tripod and weight it down with some rocks or bags with sand, then zoom in on a fixed object at the horizon. 2: Now with a remote or a timelapse function you take 25 to 100 photos of the same object. 3: In Photoshop you go to script and find the "Stack Photos", it will put them all in a smart layer, you can also select to align the photos, but it may not be necessary of you have a good tripod. 4: Now select "Mean" as blending and you will get an average of all the photos and you will see the perfect horizon that is not covered be any waves. 5: Flat-Earthers may claim this to be CGI or magick, now you have something you can laugh at for a week. 6: ???? 7: Profit.

At 2.10 Wolfie uses Walter Bislin's wonderful "Advanced Earth Curvature Calculator" (AECC) to calculated the "hidden amount" of some target objects. (Actually he calculates the visible amount but if you know the total target height one is as good as the other.) To all of you who want to keep their brain trained in mental arithmetic, here is a way how you can do this in metric units and with operations relatively easy to do without using a pocket calculator: Start with the observer height in centimeter (cm) (1) Divide by 2 (2) Take square root (3) Again divide by 2 (4) (see below - nothing to do for a rough estimate not considering refraction) (5) Subtract intermediate result from target distance in kilometer (km) (6) (see below - nothing to do for a rough estimate not considering refraction) (7) Multiply by 2 (8) Square (9) Multiply by 2 again Result is amount hidden in centimeter (cm). Now what about step (4) and (6)? The major use - if I do it that way - is to include refraction in the following way (4) Increase value by 10% (6) Decrease value by 10% Here a practical example for 2 meter (= 200 cm) observer height and 20 km target distance: (1) -> (2) .... (9) as rough estimate not considering refraction: 200 -> 100 -> 10 -> 5 -> 15 -> 30 -> 900 -> 1800 (results 18 meter hidden, AECC = 17.5 m) ... (4) -> (5) -> (6) ... considering refraction: ... 5 -> *5.5 -> 14.5 -> 13.05* -> ... (results in 13.6 meter hidden, same as AECC) Three more notes: 1. It is obvious the above formula is derived from the "infamous 8 inches per mile squared" which is accurate within a few percent up to more than 100 miles, i.e. "good for most practical target distances" . 2. The metric variant "8 cm per km squared" is a little bit less accurate at close distances but holds a bit longer for far distances (if you set an acceptable error margin within a few percent, which is usually much better than the error bars you get anyway as you can only estimate refraction). 3. You can improve the metric variant by adding/subtracting 1% in steps (4) and (6), i.e. ... (4) -> (5) -> (6) ... .. -> *5.05 -> 14.95 -> 14.80* -> ... (results in 17.5, same as AECC) Here is a spreadsheet which calculates the accuracy of the above compared to AECC for combinations of observer height and target distance:: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fsF-jT5JwQzZyeYtowDPqYcNpLiXEGtS7dY_lR3L52w/edit?usp=sharing You can add more tests but be sure to understand you always need to copy&paste TWO lines which you then modify. in the yellow and orange cells. Furthermore here I have a presentation explaining the background in a bit more detail, including my way to approximate square roots and squares. docs.google.com/presentation/d/12YXkVp_0ggrDUC9L1plsI57b1Wb6lAOa5x270-12q7c/edit?usp=sharing I hope the above links pass through Wolfie's comment filter or I am still in the white list. (Sadly I have lost Wolfie's PM so I can't ask.) -- Martin PS: If someone is interested to explain some of his or her personal tricks and techniques for doing mental arithmetic (and especially taking square roots and square) in our ALoOB live stream, contact me via PM. I want to make these things the topic of a future show, as we don't want that knowledge to become forgotten as everybody uses electronic calculators meanwhile. Nice work, Wolfie. Small point: What was the water temperature, and what was the air temperature at various heights? That drives the refraction. You showed no refraction, but FEers are in the habit of maximizing refraction and then denying it. Again, nice work.

Flat Earthers keep running away because they know they are just trolling FE. At 3 min 48 sec mark destroys the flat Earth. A clear and distinct crisp horizon at 5 min 26 sec is clear globe proof. Excellent footage! In fact I will be in a perfect position to do the same thing here soon on Lake Erie. The temps of the water and air would be the same thus reducing refraction perfect for watching boats go over the horizon (We all know that flerfs like to photograph distant objects when refraction is the greatest)

It should be noted that the lower position is actually CLOSER to the lighthouse. Since FEs always claim "Ohh you can only see so far and that's why something is not visible anymore". Here we actually move a bit closer to the object but just go down in elevation and we see less. By the same logic: Moving further away and up in elevation makes us see MORE. Increasing distance will not prevent you from seeing something, it just gets smaller with distance and with a strong enough zoom you can always bring it back into view. However when something is obstructed by something, like the round earth, you can not "zoom it back" because there would be no direct line of sight. Yes, there are those cases where refraction allows light to sort of "bend" but those images are usually highly distorted (black *cough* swan). They never even gave any sensible explanation for why things disappear bottom-up if they claim things disappear due to distance. And no, all those laughable attemts using fresnel lenses and cherry pick an angle that somewhat gives you your desired result doesn't cut it. If they would even take the time to figure out how a fresnel lens works and how light moves, but I guess that's way beyond their comprehension. Anyways, it's another beautiful and strong piece of evidence. Thanks for your efford.

Great video as always, Wolfie. I still remember the old salt who taught me to sail. The aids for navigation like the lighthouses were built to be seen from sea level while navigating. They knew how earth worked and even the tiny top of light was the only thing necessary to work as a guide. That’s why the navigation charts tell you at what distance you will be able to see the light.

I am pretty sure that light from lighthouse is visible for quite a distance from the light itself can be observed. You would need a very dry, still atmosphere (over water!) to block the rays of light from extending over the curve.
