If you were on a paper plate earth, and further toward the outside or the closer you got to antarctic wall, the horizon would not be equally far each direction. As you'd be approaching closer to the edge of Earth. The only way the horizon would be equally far on a flat earth each direction, if if you were always standing directly in the center of the plate earth.

To play devil's advocate to your advocate, there is a maximum optical range that exists for our atmosphere (depending on atmospheric density and particulates in the atmosphere) that can prevent seeing those distances normally. But that is also a problem for flat earthers because the clearer the atmosphere, the farther we should see which is the opposite of what happens in reality. So if the Earth truly was flat, then flat earthers should see farther on clear days...yet is evidenced by their own Black Swan that is "clearly" not the case.

I really appreciate how this channel has a minimal amount of "gawking at the loonies" and bullying. I feel like insulting the beliefs of people like flat earthers only drives them further into their echo chambers. I know many of them will refuse to listen to calm rationality and reason, but it's still the best course of action if we want any of them to come around to science. A lot of flat earth debunk channels lay on the righteousness and basically bully flat earthers for believing what they do, and if that's the main focus of someone's content then they're just picking on people, and it's not very educational. Thats why this channel is awesome, you poke a little fun but it's not to the point of being cruel or self righteous, and for the most part your just presenting the evidence. I think that's great.

It think it might be slightly more effective than flat out bullying however. People don't respond positively to their beliefs being mocked. It's a good way to get someone to shut down completely, and if it's in the name of science that they are being bullied well then it pushes them even further away from the truth. I'm not saying this is some grand method for converting all flat earthers I'm just saying it might represent our side better if we aren't assholes about it.

If the earth was flat, plate tectonics would change. Plates would follow the path of least resistance, in this case they would simply push towards the edge of the flat earth and simply fall off. 'the sun isn't actually there' oh it gets so much weirder than that. That 'true position' shown because refraction isn't even accurate, because it takes ten minutes for light from the sun to reach the earth. Ontop of that, light is also bent slightly by gravity. In extreme cases this allows you to see things like the back side of an accretion disk on a black hole, or the back sides of neutron stars. (iirc, the movie interstellar was the first to do these light simulations. and becsuse it was so weird the team thought they broke the program!)

That's why in a jet at 35k ft or on the beach at 6 it appears to be at the level of the observer. If it was physical as in a curve away edge it would stay fixed and not appear to rise. I've made a couple of videos (in response to a certain Flat Earther's nonsense) regarding how easy it is to see evidence of the curvature from somewhere as innocuous as the English Channel. I live quite close to Folkestone & Dover, which from certain locations, it's possible to see the Cap Blanc Nez area of france and beyond. This is Usually around the Roundhill Tunnel area. However, from this location you can also see Folkestone seafront. If you were to travel to that location, France would no longer be visible as it had vanished below the horizon. Another thing you should mention that helps prove Pic Gaspard is not simply lower than Grand Ferand due to perspective is that the vantage point that the picture was taken from is between the elevation of the two peaks. Perspective would cause the two peaks to move vertically closer together towards the vanishing point at eye level, but Pic Gaspard would never appear lower on a flat earth, even if it was millions of miles away.

They had to invent their own phenomena to try an explain how a flat earth might work - flerspective is one of the main ones. Flerspective is magic perspective where astronomical objects, like the sub and moon, don't change size as they move towards and away from us. It also means astronomical objects can magically get to the horizon, when in flat earth reality, they could never get near it. Finally you have already mentioned the compressing of the "bottom" of the sun/moon at the horizon. I am not sure any flerfer has ever tried to actually explain how that might actually be explained, or why only the sun and moon do it.

Their biggest issues is the suns movement in the sky in southern Chile. One should expect the sun to be unobservable most of the time, not matter if it is winter or summer, if the earth was flat. Because if there is a distance where the sun disappears due to refraction or something then that distance has to shorter than the distance between between the sun and cape horn most of the day. The sun should appear to move towards you in the sky then turn back north. But the sun moves in an arc around you in the sky if you live in southern tip of Chile. Similar to how the sun moves in the sky if you live in northern Europe.

And during summer, at around 46 degrees (South) longest day is somewhat 16 hours . That means the sun should be visible around 2/3 on that latitude at all the time. Flerfs will need pretty much luck to make that happen on flat earth with their local sun. 🤣

There's a group of conspiracy myth believers who search for the most unlikely myth to believe in, where you have to ignore *everything that works* and all kinds of natural science and instead believe in complete nonsense (silly memes galore, but nothing useful). Simple observation to determine the flatness of the earth. Using a solar filter from a pair of those paper eclipse glasses, take a photo of the sun once an hour through out the day. Compare the size of the sun in each photo. If it starts small in the morning, gets biggest at noon then gets smaller as evening comes on, the earth is flat. If the sun remains the same size all day, it's a globe.

Due to the Earth's supposed curvature having to be calculated by using a formula should tell people it CANNOT be measured, which means it is NOT scientific. The scientific method is to measure, NOT calculate, mathematics CANNOT make bodies of water bend. Flat earthers don't realize a helium balloon rises because the pull of gravity causes the air around balloon to be pulled down, forcing the balloon up. They also can't explain how having a difference in density creates a very specific vector of movement (why down specifically). Nor why two objects with different densities can still have the same acceleration if they have the same shape and volume.

MCToon et-al had a similar picture by the formerly named Ranty Flat Earth who was actually "converted" back to a glober by it. It's a picture of an amuzementpark that has a tower in the forground and mountains at the back. The mountains are known to be so high that if you plot the distances to the tower and the moiuntains to scale on a flat plane, the mountains should be muhc higher than the tower, but in the picture they are not. So either there is some magical refraction going on that makes the mountains look lower and makes the bottom disappear, or we are on a globe. The best evidence is usually the simplest.

Earth is round but we experience it as perfectly flat based on the frame of reference of the observer. Picture Earth as a perfectly smooth sphere like a pool ball.. When are you walking up a curve? And when are you walking down a curve? It is physically impossible to walk only down a curve or walk only up a curve. It has to be both down and up at the same time. Earth is not above you or on the side.. it is always directly below you just like a person standing on a giant ball. Watch a person walking on a ball and they move in a straight horizontal line. Now swap the ball with the Earth as a giant ball and the same effect is still true. When you can see yourself as "always on top" you will notice when walking your back foot is dropping in curvature the same amount as your front foot and this is what simulates walking on a flat plane.

For example, if I fill a glass with water and ask you how much water is in the glass, you might want to measure it. But how? Well, try weighing it. Put the glass on a scale when empty, record the weight, add water, weight it again, record that, then CALCULATE by subtracting that first weight from the second one. Now you know how much just the water weighs. We know a liter of water weighs a kilogram, so take your calculated weight, so one more CALCULATION should tell you how much water you have, expressed in liters. A third CALCULATION can convert that to gallons, ounces, pints, whatever you like. Pretty much any measurement that is even remotely complex requires calculation. I challenge you to imagine, if you can, that the world might be a globe. Or oblate spheroid. Now tell me how to measure the curvature of that globe without any calculation at all. Or a different challenge. Imagine, if you can, that the world is a flat plane. Now tell me how many square kilometers in the U.S. state of Utah. Figure out this answer with measurement only, no calculations. Neither of those things can be done. Calculations are required for any complex measurement. That's just how numbers and measurements work.

You don't trust science because it calculates with untrustworthy math. 3. You don't trust vision because perspective is intangible. 4. You don't trust dictionaries because you never looked at the very first definition listed for the word level: "a horizontal plane or line with respect to the distance above or below a given point" That last bit is very important, by the way, since on a globe, the "given point" is the exact center of the globe. Think about it for a minute. 5. You don't trust gravity which always points to that same "given point', the center of the globe earth. This fits, since you don't trust science in the first place. 6. You don't trust proof that relies on math, science, dictionaries, or gravity, because the fact that the earth is an oblate spheroid has been demonstrated zillions of times since Eratosthenes measured it in 240 B.C. After all that, I don't know what could possibly convince you. You have built such an impervious set of walls around you unbelievably closed mind that no logic, reason, or even word definition is ever going to penetrate it. Carry on, I guess.

A nice demonstation of the atmosphere bending light is if you put sugar in water and let it dissolve without mixing it. Then a density gradient like that in the atmosphere appears and it bends the light like out atmosphere. Just look for "Crazy Material That You Can Make at Home That Actually Bends Light!". Morale of the story is that the earth is an oblate spheroid, and our understanding of mathematics and physics line up perfectly with reality. Flerf ideology is based on poorly or understood or fully misunderstood science, and has no cohesive model. It's easily debunked at every level, and its proponents are massive hypocrites since you all simply hand waive away all evidence you don't like.

I wrote how bodies of water behave, that said, how a body of water behave does not need explaining, it just demonstrates, the ability of water to always find its lowest level was here long before humans' ability to manipulate language and blatantly lie about it. Language CANNOT make bodies of water hold permanant convexity across their surface. The ability of water to always find its lowest level is NOT a 'conspiracy theory', it is a practically demonstrable, repeatable and verifiable SCIENTIFIC FACT AND OBJECTIVE REALITY WITH TANGIBLE SUBSTANCE. Water does not tell lies, people do, YOU DO. The natural physics and behaviour of water, fluid mechanics, proves, beyond any doubt, the Earth is a DEMONSTRABLY level. The Earth is said to be over 70% covered in liquid, water, a tangible substance, and water always seeks equilibrium, level, at the same elevation, IN A STRAIGHT LINE, from the starting point to the end point with no deviation in elevation inbetween, regardless of distance. Bodies of water CANNOT hold permanant convexity across their surface. Bodies of water CANNOT conform to the exterior of shapes. Bodies of water HAVE to be contained, the water will take the shape of its container, but its surface will always find its level. When there is the very slightest of inclinations to the surface of a body of water it will always flow and find its lowest level, this is because a body of water has not got the ability to support itself on its surface, it is formless, its surface always collapses and find its lowest level. Therefore, if you have a ridiculous 'belief' which makes YOU CLAIM vast bodies of water, vast oceans, can somehow bend around and stick to a spinning ball, then the burden of PROOF is on YOU to show a practical example of a pond, a lake or an ocean holding a permanent curve across their surface. The burden of PROOF is on YOU to give a practical demonstration of a body of water conforming to the exterior of a shape. Science is a method, NOT a religion, NO beliefs are required. Science should ALWAYS be demonstrable, repeatable and verifiable, if it does not fit this criteria, then it is pseudoscience, beliefs, religion.YOU CANNOT practically demonstrate any of YOUR ridiculous spinning globe Earth claims because YOU ARE just a sad, spineless, lying, deceiving, fantasy-defending religious zealot.

@@tonydixon635 not gonna read that whole thing because you misrepresented me in the first sentence. I never said I debunked anything. I said your points have already been debunked. They have, and by others much better at content creation than me. Just because you refuse to accept verified, scientific information in favor of your delusion that doesn't mean your delusion is true. You can see a replicable demonstration of water conforming to a curve by looking at any ocean. Can you see Europe from the eastern coast of the US? Nope. No amount of zoom is bringing another continent up to or above the horizon. Objects disappear over that horizon and once fully behind it cannot be brought back with any amount of zoom from sea level. Whine all you want, but those of physical demonstrations of earth curvature. Every instance where flerfs think they can see too far is either them misrepresenting information about their viewing or is them cherry picking instances where atmospheric conditions are causing the viewing phenomena. Flerfs ignore all other instances where those views meet our standard expectation in favor of cherry picking special circumstances. If you want more evidence then you can look at pictures of the earth from space. You'll claim they're all fake, but that doesn't make it true. Flerfs routinely deny valid evidence in favor of misrepresentation, misinformation, or flat out (see what I did there?) lies. I'll take actual science, and empirical evidence as the basis for views thanks.
