Great work fella, we all have different ways of doing things and watching others we may find alternative ways , tips and tricks. Keep it up, your smashing it. I'd look at buying a DeWalt stand for your chop saw, it will save you kneeling down all the time.

Nice work, might be just me but I always smear PVA on any MDF cut edges, especially on cill boards as any condensation that gathers can make them blow

Good job doing the scribe without a coping saw. That's impressive and you really do take pride in your work. I see a lot in residential setting a much lower standard in work and finish, despite how much a good painter can add or take away from shoddy second fix. Nice one!

Great video, a little tip for you if you have a builders merchant near buy that sells wood and has a wall saw get them to cut the big panels down to size while you do something else then they have done the work for you! And the panels are easy to carry. I always tell my clients I cut all the big stuff in my unit so it’s easier to carry and save you money 😂😂😂

I just did some panelling exactly like that but the dado I turned it the other way and I thought it looked a lot better good work though!

I have done quite a few panelling jobs for various customers. I find the best way to get materials to site is to buy from a timber/builders merchant that has a sawmill. Order your MDF sheets and they will cut them all to size for only a few quid. Well worth it! You can either collect it from them or have it delivered. It really saves a lot of time and even more effort.

I do a lot of panelling, with different designs, but if a client asked me to stick stiles to plaster, I turn the job down. I use a 6mm full backing, measured precisely so no joints will be shown. My panelling stiles, skirt, tip rail etc are finished in 12mm. All glued. 2nd fix nailer for the backing and headless pin nailer ( Bostitch) for the finish. No fillers required. Also, I never get stiles etc cut at supplier. I cut each one with track saw with a new blade which enables me to scribe when necessary. That’s just how I role mate.

I would scribe the other way round as you to walk into the room and not seeing where’s it been scribe obviously it’s getting caulk and paint but it’s the way I was taught 🤙🤙

That cope is more than acceptable... I always use a jigsaw but invert my jigsaw so it's easier to follow the line. I've also used an angle grinder with a sanding disc before which works incredibly well... Love your you tube. Would love to work a day with you.... Maybe you should give a subscriber the opportunity.... I like I've in Birmingham 😅

The scribe was pretty clean for a jigsaw, but it always makes me question why people don't just mitre the corners. Even with taking a little more time to ensure you get as close to a 45 as possible, still quicker than scribing.

Your top rail is fine ! Sometimes I cut at 45 1/2 on those old wonky walls! I never cope anything but crown! And now ppl really don’t install it anymore and I forgot half of what I barely knew ! So I really don’t do it! But now all the rage is flat crown?

I have found that panelling is on the increase, especially in some larger houses. Companies like Farrow and Ball show a lot of panelling in their paint advertisements.

Yes, get yourself a trade account with a couple of merchants, you can then play them off against each other to get the best price. If you don’t want a credit account or would struggle with references, you can make them cash accounts. I think that you will be very pleasantly surprised at the savings you can make. I always use Wickes prices for pricing work where possible and then pocket the additional savings for myself. Always add at least 20% to your material prices and sometimes 30%. Keep it going and you will be fine!

The lad is having a go, he will only get better. Maybe it’s not joiner grade work, but the the fact that it is going to be painted means it will be fine. For £300, that is a bargain. If I did this panelling I would probably put a 1 in front of his price, but I always use Medite Premium MR MDF

well for a start its the wrong m d f as for the dado raili was always told to put it flush with the m d f and put a timber fillet on the back of the dado rail that what was taught i didn't to a 6 year apprenticeship for nothing the joiner I was with was old school

The van alone will cost a small fortune to buy, run, maintain and depreciation then there is the tax man, national insurance, accountant, apprentice wages, tools, phones, computers, stationary, insurance, bank charges, professional fees, advertising etc etc. Good tools cost a fortune and it requires probably £4,000 to £5,000 to kit yourself these days and then you have to hope that some thieving scumbag doesn’t break into your van and help himself to your kit and therefore your livelyhood.

£250 is the going rate around here for a chip. I’m a multi trade doing council repairs on 1k a week inc van fuel and tools Good practice to lightly sand those mitre joints ready for the next trade and fill the pin holes if you have time. Job could have been blasted in one day from my experience tho on site we 2nd fix a house from scratch in a day and breakfast

That panelling type is known as Shaker Style or Batten & Board. It’s a perfectly acceptable and well known style.

There is nothing wrong with trying to execute the jobs to perfection or near enough perfection. Regardless if this will be caulked and painted, the client, (if they have the eye for detail), will notice this and think, “nice, neat job”…. This is why, yourself ^^, if you are in the trade or not, you won’t have the opportunity to work on high end projects if you have an attitude like that. Nice job TTDowg 👍

I used the jigsaw and it was perfect first time, it is always good to be critical on work whether it's going to be covered, caulked, or painted. I would say it is a good habit to have and I like taking pride in my work but I can see where you are coming from within a speed perspective.
