I believe I understand self custody and being decentralized. I can't help but wonder if were using Wallets, ledgers etc... which are maintained by people regardless of seed phrases and taking it offline....these wallets are a business and can't the government still come in and shut that down and send all bitcoin to themselves just like shutting down exchanges who custody for others? There likely will be fractional reserve on the free-market. That credit will expand the btc holdings over what btc there is. But I do not believe that is price inflationary on the free market. Because, credit makes markets more efficient, that is deflationary.

Unlikely BTC will be money, unless government no longer exists, and in at crazy scenario, there probably wouldn’t be infrastructure or sufficient proliferation of it to make it work as money. BTC is more of an investment in an extremely volatile instrument, that one day may cease to be as volatile, but that could also correspond to diminishing returns in future cycles. Money will probably first be attempted as a central bank controlled currency, but if that does not succeed, then some sort of token/currency backed in part by something tangible/valuable to take the place of the dollar. It will be awhile before that even comes to pass. The days of fiat in any form , without appropriate backing, are probably on their way out. In the meantime, crypto will be engaged in war with the US government and the Fed, maybe not overtly, and the whale futures players who will, as a proxy for government, seek to contain BTC. The government will never voluntarily cede control of the “money” to BTC, because sovereign money is a projection of power.

Governments will make it money because they will need it to literally keep the lights on. Voters will turn their back on the dollar when a loaf of bread costs $20,000.

The other thing to remember is today's government won't exist when dollar collapses. The dollar will carry no value so all value comes from taxing Bitcoin which makes government about 90% smaller because no mo money printer.

BTC/Crypto is self custodial Money.... You need to try it before you right comment like that.... We will always need to convert it to dollars (local currency) or are you saying replacing the USD? ....BTC will and already does work in unison with USD or any countries currency and theoretically could replace it if needed, but obviously not USD anytime soon. Some parts of American governments are invested in BTC already also they just won't tell us unless we look deep.
