Both of my parents were bus drivers and both told me that you see so many people getting on and off the bus every day that they seem like mannequins, most not even acknowledging the driver or the service they are providing for the passenger, so when I used to get the bus to and from school every day, I always said "Thank you" to the driver. With two simple words, their face would light up and they would go from this emotionless robot to a smiling human being within a second. A few years later there was a documentary on the TV about bus drivers and one of them said it only takes one "Thank you" per week to make him feel appreciated and carry on doing his job. It felt pretty good providing that one "Thank you" every day, more people should try it.

In my country bus drivers have what I would call a "half-cab" which partially isolates the driver from the passengers but still allows for example the driver to give hand to hand a paper map/schedule of the line to a passenger that asked for it or the passengers who buy a ticket on the bus to hand money directly to the driver without having to put it on the coin tray for instance. Unfortunately that also means anyone with bad intentions can very easily reach the driver to assault him (or her). But they have a retractable tempered glass window that can be quickly raised if needed and then it provides pretty much the same level if protection as the fully enclosed cab. BTW we also don't have spit kits in France but we DO have CCTV in buses and in many other public places aswell.
@shannalog5 жыл бұрын
I was spat on several times over the years, the last time was just before we got spit kits. It was at Rushy Green, I called code red, the first thing they said to me was "How old are you" I said what's my age got to do with me being assaulted, I want to know should I got to the hospital can get tested as the spit went on my face and in my eyes. The said it's up to you what you want to do, I was so pissed off with Centercom's response, I carried on as not to disrupt the service, but now I know what to do as all buses have spit kits on.

So my question is does this happen to you and what is the general reaction from both sides?

The public are pretty good on the whole. It's really unfortunate that you and indeed many drivers have to go through such experiences to simply get on with your days work, I understand that things don't always go to plan, and buses are at the mercy of many different situations, ie the weather, traffic, accidents and so on, but that is not an excuse for individuals to abuse drivers for trying to do their job. 99% of the time, buses work perfectly fine, but that other 1% , it's a bit of a nightmare out there, once again, glad you are ok.

There are lots of weird passenger and some drivers but most are good. I was once on the bus 140 5 month ago there was who didn't want to pay his fares and went upstairs as the driver didn't let him on he went downstairs and smashed his head onto the cab door, another 140 was behind I went on that but that driver didn't let him on he just press the emergency button.

Aboubasakio Fire ....yes...this kind if behaviour is unacceptable...and if needs to be engrained into the 'public psyche' so that we get the message out there! Travelling on buses is just as safe as walking down the street! Good and bad things happen all the time! We can't really avoid it...but it's not what happens to us....it's how we deal with it!

wow i'm so sorry to hear this, after I've watched this video i thought to myself why do we have people like these in this world, ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. i have been spat on so many times myself by young yobs, it is just dreadful, i think that they should be put in prison, the young community is terrible, i hope you are okay and have not been affected in any way all the best from carol!
@DoubleDeckerAnton7 жыл бұрын
21 Dank ...thanks Carol. ..I'm ok...bit traumatised at the time...but yes....it's not a nice thing....I was just doing my job! If we try and get involved by interacting with passengers. ...we put ourselves out there ...and we dont know how we will be treated! We have to serve the public!😃

It’s about how you deal with situation, if you embarrass people in public they could react. Speak to people with a nice tone and they not going to feel like crap in public. It’s worked for me 9 years. That person in Anton bus was unwell, even Anton said.

If he started coach work... He would no longer to be able to be called DoubleDeckerAnton. He would have to be called "SingleDeckerAnton" or "SmallerDoubleDeckerAnton" that's only if you have a double decker coach! ;)
