Now this was quite the uplifting watch. To simplify my personal opinions: *G5 is a victim of audience hostility and pedantic apathy.* I’ll stay optimistically excited for the next few parts of this series to be released as this video was quite a thoroughly entertaining and informatively descriptive analysis. Even putting my own thoughts into perspective concerning the infamous bandwagon of G5 hate content, why Sunny is perfect for being the protagonist of the generation and why G5 ultimately still succeeds swimmingly being a seriously engaging and argumentatively, a more motivating spin on the franchise to the newer generations of individuals, despite the wonky repercussions that are attached. 😊 You have my great respect for producing this and it’s clear you have as much passion as all of us that still actively support and love G5 as much as you. Wonderful work on making yourself clear with all you say about the best pilot movie, Hawk. 💚✨

personally i enjoyed g5 as a whole, i didnt really dislike any of the episodes. i've watched all generations of mlp and it really helps you look at g5 as its own gen, not just a g4 reboot. i think one of the things that stunted g5 was that make your mark was in 3d. tbh mlp isn't really meant for 3d as there are a lot of different settings and places in g5 and its harder and more expensive to make all those settings in 3d. also mlp in general benefits more in 2d animation. i honestly think we need g5 more than ever these days as it feels like the whole world is at each other's throats and we really need to teach the younger generation about love and tolerance early on if we want things to change. g4 was started it and g5 is trying to go further with the idea.

THIS! This is the kind of G5 defence video I’ve been wanting to make for a year, but I lack the equipment and skills for video creation. Season four of FIM killed my already dwindling love for MLP back in the day, and it was A New Generation and Make Your Mark that brought me back to the series. Combine that with the fact that I just prefer Sunny and her friends to Twilight and her friends and that when I was following FIM my investment was constantly dwindling, while with MYM my investment was constantly growing is why I love G5 more than G4. This is why nearly all of the stories I write on FIMfiction are G5 stories. It’s the series I really enjoy, and has the characters that I love to write. So after seeing you defend G5 on a small scale I’ve been waiting for this passion project, and it blew all my expectations away. Take my subscription. You’ve more than earned it.

Hey, after rewatching the video, I realised that you included Harbo Wholmes’ video(s) on G5, which I find quite hilarious as it was *ME* who commissioned him to review G5 three times! He quite enjoyed A New Generation and recommended it to people and families. The Make Your Mark Special may not have surpassed his expectations still found entertainment in it. Then, of course, Chapter 2 wasn’t his cup of tea and I stopped commissioning him for them. 😂 It was interesting to get Harbo’s perspective on MLP as a whole since he’s not a brony and more of an outsider who’s open to see new things. Even if it didn’t live up to his expectations, he’s a chill dude with a good heart! I do recommend his channel if anyone is a Whovian. 🙏💚

Interesting getting the backstory behind that. I just saw your comment on his video and was completely left in the dark as to the context, lol. I promise I won’t go too hard on him in my Make Your Mark defense videos since you two are friends. In my currently unfinished cut of Part 3, there’s about a minute or two where I call out his interpretation of the message behind “Izzy Does It” and that should be about it. His channel is certainly entertaining and full of passion behind Doctor Who, and I won’t be dogging on him in any way, don’t worry. I may be a casual fan myself, but I can definitely respect his dedication to the franchise.

I remember watching the movie when it released, and I wondered about certain themes. The theme of unity is clear in how the story is about characters from every faction coming to together to stop a common threat, but I think it is also shown in Sprout and Phyliss. Over the course of the film, Sprout lets the power he's given go to head and begins to attack everypony that he sees as the enemy for his own vindication and to prove himself to his mother. However, he goes down the dark road so much that even his greatest supporter and peer, turns against him. This creates a divide that leads to sprout's defeat when she stands against him and his war machine and causes him to crash into the lighthouse which then results in his machine being destroyed. But I also see how this could apply to bonds. It isn't until his mother is put in direct danger that he diverts from his plan to conquer. He could've snapped an try to run her over, but he doesn't. Instead, he turns the Sproutacous to avoid hitting her which ultimate lead to his rampage ending. The bond he had with someone is what saved him from crossing a line where there would be no turning back. I thought it was very poetic. There was another theme I noticed about change. To quote a video that resonated with me (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJzbioxje8aCi7M), "while one who breaks rule without purpose only cause harm", (such as Sprout's intent to go to war despite the other tribes lack of motive or means to be a threat, leading to Sunny's home being destroyed), "and although rules and laws create peace" (such as the idea of keeping things the way they are; keeping the three tribes isolated from each other and not cause conflict, following Hitch's line of "The law is the law"), they need to be challenged and reexamined by the new generation(no pun intended) to avoid stagnation, which is follows Sunny's belief in reaching out to those seen as the enemy and challenging those beliefs. The story unfolds because the characters made the choice to go through with their own ideals rather than following the status quo as it is and Faught for a better future, and only fail when they assume there are only two crystals instead of three, one for each tribe (as well as not acknowledging the literal hole in that assumption with the spot for the earth pony crystal), and not questioning it. Together they were able to move past the old order and move towards a new kind of peace, "one that promotes progress and understanding even if through difficulty and strife".

Some reviewers just spew chaotic blind negative statements and call it "the review". Some reviewers even make a review of a whole chapter... and then confess that they didn't even bother watching it fully and dropped it after 1-2 episodes! Wut?.. Just make two reviews of two episodes, then, not a chapter review! You have a responsibility as a reviewer to **ACTUALLY WATCH IT**. Some reviewers, though, actually make a legitimate critique and note positive parts, and I would only disagree with final conclusion, not with the main content of review. While I like and enjoy G5, I can fully acknowledge that it is not perfect, far from it.

Wow! I watched the whole video, and you taught me somethings that I never knew about "A New Generation". Mostly about Sunny's role as being a better main protagonist. I do have to say that I strongly agree with you that all the G5 haters posting videos talking about why they hate this series is like a virus. I hate seeing those videos as they clearly do not see anything that makes this series so great. The G5 lovers like you, me, and the other ones you mentioned, we are all a group of true fans/Bronies that see what makes this series so amazing. I am amazed, and also respect the fact that you are making a whole video series defending this series. You have a lot of guts to do this, as I have never once seen someone make a video, or several videos like this, to talk back to all the haters out there. Both shows of G5, as well as the movie are all big hits, and successful in what they wanted to do, and we have to give the team behind this series credit for what they made for us. I do not know why all the haters have to be so harsh on this series, because all I see is everything I want out of "My Little Pony", which are great characters, who are cute, relatable, lovable, etc. And if I am being honest, also kind of beautiful, because when it comes to the female characters, especially the main characters, we all know that they need to be pretty/beautiful, and they did a great job with designing them. Heck, they even got a fan artist to design Sunny and Izzy! How cool was that, right? Pipp and Zipp, being my two favorites from this series, I just love royal characters, what can I say? Also, Hitch being the first male pony main character in the franchise, again, they did a great job with him, mostly when he had a change of heart, and wanted to help out. I also want great music, epic action and adventures, and even some funny moments here and there, and again, we got all that as well. They did all that with G4, and now with G5, they did it again, in a different way that works better than we thought it would. I enjoyed watching this video, and hearing you defend this amazing film that started this amazing series for us all. I cannot wait to see your future videos defending the rest of G5 as well. I know they will be amazing, just like this one. High five to G5! Hoof to Heart!

The only sequel aspect teased was that it takes place in the same world as G4. That’s it. I far prefer the G5 we got as it prioritizes building its own lore, story, and characters instead of focusing too heavily on the past.

I am so sick of the bronies who think that g4 is the best thing ever with nothing wrong with it, some even really hate the older gens before fim, like it's fine if you have a fav gen or just don't like them as much because they are more "childish" but they gotta remember that fim wouldn't exist without older gens... G4 got me into mlp when i was a kid and got me interested in mlp as a whole, and I love fim so so much! But it's not perfect and I completely agree that the g5 movie is better than the fim pilot. (You explained everything so well in this video!!) Speaking of comparing fim to ang. I remember back when the movie came out, a g4 collector posted about it on instagram, saying how he hated it, with the generic plot and flat characters and just said that fim is better in everyway. I remember reading that and thinking "he is comparing one movie with a show that has 9 seasons, spin-offs and a movie." Yes. He was comparing one movie with the whole of g4, not just the pilot. It's so dumb. Also with how the ponies are flat and have no personality...when fim's cast was only stereotypes for many many episodes until they started to flesh them out more later on. Also I gotta love how back when some people started hating on fim's season 6 because of starlight. And then season 8 because of the school of friendship, the student 6 and cozy glow and how the show was ruined and lost it's charm. And now the same people say that fim was perfect and it was g5 that ruined it? I'm a proud g5 lover forever and think it deserves a lot more love from the fanbase. I swear some of the hate videos..they are so dumb it's like they didn't even watch the episodes..

We need more videos like this. I have my fair share of discussion and battles in a lot of g5-rant videos. Big mayority of their reviews/analysis lack proper research and objectivity. One thing is a proper critique but other is a nonsense baffling that some of the analysis community individuals display.

I walked into G5 wanting it to be better than G4, especially after the poorly thought out finale. G5 delivered ten fold and then some in my opinion. It’s got its flaws, I won’t deny it, but it still manages to stay more consistent than G4 and the characters’ quirks never got in the way of their developments. Don’t get me wrong. I still hold on to most everything G4 (especially The Perfect Pear), but this new generation is one I’ll defend to the fullest. And I’m glad there are fans like you to share that commitment.

*hugs* Thank you! While I was skeptical of G5 at first, I fell in love with the beautiful character designs in New Generation, even though G4 was the series that pulled me into bronydom! And I even watched and enjoyed nearly all the previous generational episodes! Gotta love that classic 80s art style and the "Saturday morning cartoons" type plots! I get so frustrated with all the MLP "fans" who are constantly telling me to hate this generation or that one for silly reasons. Why does public hate and ridicule have to be so popular?! Amazing, THIS is what I've been trying to tell people for well over a year now. These G5 hate videos are also why I have lost SO MUCH trust in the MLP analysis community, SO MUCH reactionary nonsense that can be debunked with simple transcript checks. I've only heard of the Windigos being made of wind from the The Ending of the End, not snow, but yes, it is also said in The Ending of the End that they're ancient magic. So like you said, the Windigos not being in G5 with the magic being gone makes sense. Great start to this series, please keep giving us more, more people like you need to give us more too.

I know how you feel. I relate to you a lot because maybe it has nothing to do with Mlp, but I feel exactly the same way with SpongeBob. I've always loved the show and enjoyed it a lot, but I found out that there's so much hate towards it after first few seasons and seeing the negative and sometimes mean commenst how bad it is now and how perfect was it before made me really upset. I guess you have to try not to care about haters and enjoy the shows you love. :)

Now this is a Good video And your right G5 is not a master peice but also g4 was also not a master piece both gens or all gens had flaws to it Like not everything is a masterpiece but shows G5 is not all bad it has its good moments But also not to say which is better but to when our main characters meet well in G4 the mane 6 all were a reason to meet is well the elements of harmony which is kind of not friendship really but it is later on And in G5 the mane 5 all start to know each other during they're quest or they're time on screen where we get to know them so they got along and got to know each other and with the 6th member (which is misty but when she was working with opaline) misty mostly spy on them but later on she sometime hangs out with them (to get more info and get sparky) but then starts to realize how it feels like to have friend and that she feels right in its like building up of it And true i think they got a few wrong things about this gen like this gen is not the end of the world or it ruined Mlp it just has its flaws to it like g4 also did but thanks for this it does help sure this gen is not for everyone but it has its fans Now im going to share this video on twitter to show this gen isn't really bad or ruin's mlp or the worst gen ever since people call it that

I love this video. Thank you for defending Sunny . I really hate how mlp fans mistreated her. Fun fact was my fav character ever since the movie came out since I can relate to her. I'm an outcast just like her . I still like her and I'm happy she achieved great feats in the g5 show. I like this generation and I'm glad you exposed the mlp commentary community s deception. I was so tired of the hate and it made me just feel so lonely when it came down to liking g5. Everyone just tore everything to pieces about it. If you ask me, this fandom has become a hateful shadow of its former self. I watched FIM when it was ending and went back to watch the whole thing, and I loved it. The show had so much that could work irl, but all I found were ponies who didn't get it. They watched it and threw the message out the window. It has made me very cynical towards this community, but it warms my heart that at least I'm not alone, and some folks get it.

My favorite part of New Generation was the initial in-depth development of individual characters and their connections to the world, which helped me to understand the character more deeply and attach to them I LOVE the fact that each character has their own background, life, hobbies, job, and set of established views on life that they share with their circle of friends While it's commonly believed that Misty has the best story development, you can actually see character development in each main pony. But it's described so smoothly and without drawing attention to it that you're sometimes surprised you know it yourself And what I love even more is the fact that each character shares at least one hobby with the other main character, so you expect to see any combination of ponies in the series engaged in a joint endeavor. Gen 4 brought this up in the form of a friendship issue (WHICH IS VERY COOL), but I still would have liked to see the past mane 6 have more interest interactions because personally, to me, their relationship in the series looked like a collective rather than a friendship You can be friends in a collective too, it's just that the friendship ends the moment the collective breaks up. That's how at the end of g4 the characters arrive at the general meeting separate and strictly by royal decree, even though most of the ponies still live almost on the same street I'm not saying this type of friendship is bad, it's just that in a series about the magic of friendship you don't expect the heroes to grow up and move on, leaving the friends of their youth behind

I’m not a big fan of G5, but I’m glad that this video essay exists. There are two sides to every debate and the pro-G5 side feels very washed out and outnumbered. I personally don’t like MYM, but I enjoy TYT and ANG is a phenomenal movie. I respect you for finally providing a strong defense of G5.

I completely agree with you. I don't understand why G5 gets so much hate when it is great. I'm so tired of hearing all the hate online. I used to not like G5 at first. Mainly because Make Your Mark had not the greatest animation at first and didn't really have deep stories and didn't seem to care about answering our questions about the lore of the world and what happened to the alicorns. But I started watching Make Your Mark again and stopped comparing it to G4, and I actually really enjoy it now, and now I think I might like G5 as much as I like G4! It's not a perfect masterpiece, but neither was G4. Some FiM episodes weren't super great, and the show itself wasn't perfect either. Once people stop comparing G5 to G4, then they can really love it for what it is, and it's great. Thanks for making this video. I want to make a video like this someday because we need more people in the community showing how great G5 really is.

I'm a Gen 5 fan as well. The problem is comparing it to Gen 4, which caught lightning in a bottle. The likeliness that Gen 5 would be lightning in a bottle was low, but that doesn't mean it's not worth watching. Gen 5 takes place in the distant future. That's Gen 4's ending is still meaningful. Saying that Gen 5 ruins Gen 4's happy ending is like saying WWII ruined the happy ending that was the end of WWI. Josh Scorcher's review of A New Generation is crap. He points out how it starts off with Gen 4. But it doesn't. Not exactly anyways. It starts off with Sunny, Hitch, and Sprout playing with toys and we're seeing into their imaginations. On the TVs in Zephyr Heights, it shows Gen 1 and Gen 3 (and possibly My Little Pony Tales). So on that note, we should also compare Gen 5 to those iterations as well. And doing that, Gen 5 is fantastic in comparison. The work that the Mane 6 put into making a better world is ruined. It takes place in the distant future. Gen 4 is canon, but not necessary to know about. That sounds a lot like a description of Gen 5, right? Well, I wasn't describing Gen 5, I was describing Fallout: Equestria, which is perhaps one of the most popular MLP fanfics, even having it's own fandom and fanfics. So why is it that the same description can apply to Gen 5, and people call it bad? I am so glad that someone other than me gets it. The Windigoes are made of MAGIC, so they can't survive in an environment of NO MAGIC. The feed off of FIGHTING, and can't really feed if there is NO FIGHTING. In fact, most of what the Ponies knew about the other tribes were falsehoods. So they didn't even hate each other, they hated caricatures of each other at best. I agree with Gen 4's "3 locations", though I would list them as Ponyville, Canterlot, and Cloudsdale, since I consider Sweet Apple Acres as part of Ponyville. One of the best things about A New Generation is the "show don't tell" aspect. Sunny doesn't have to tell you she's sad or have to cry for an audio cue. She just shows it so well that you feel sad with her. And when she's happy, you feel that same joy. Oh, and her name is SUNNY Starscout, and she found out about the Earth Pony Crystal thanks to the SUN. I like the fact that Sunny's Alicorn form is just a temporary power-up. Because it's a way to show that she does have Alicorn magic in her, but it's not a full transformation. That's actually better than Twilight's ascension, because it's a way to distinguish naturally born Alicorns to ascended Alicorns. I view Sunny as the inverse of Twilight. Twilight wanted nothing to do with friends. That was the wrong way to go about things in the end. And when she learned about friendship, there's character growth. Sunny wanted nothing BUT to make friends. Her process was the wrong one in the end, but her GOAL was the right one. And when the the Ponies around her gets the message (including her realizing the right way), there's character growth. In short, Twilgiht refused to see reason when she was surrounded by it, while Sunny was the voice of reason surrounded by the unreasonable. Even their backgrounds are the same. Twilight is the student of the ruler of all Equestria, and is gifted in magic and intelligent. Sunny is the orphaned daughter of a lighthouse owner, and is... gifted at making smoothies, I guess, and is average intelligence. Twilight is a Big Fish in a Small Pond. Sunny is a Small Fish in a Big Lake.

I really don’t blame you, I think the G5 hate has definitely gone way outta hand, even though I’ve been a fan of MLP since 2014 and I will always remember G4 but honestly I’ve gotten use to liking G5 so far, I just kinda wish everybody would do the same but instead they just keep on hating G5 just to get the views from fans that dislike G5 all because it doesn’t have the same love and charm as G4, but after watching all G5 content such as Make Your Mark, Tell Your Tale, The comics, and so forth it’s actually not that bad, I’m already liking the new ponies and the adventures they embark on, you know how it’s kinda like in real life where you use to have a good time with your friends in school and you’ve had the best time with your friends for so many years until one day when your friends have either moved away or have moved on from their lives to the point where you have to say goodbye, and then as you moved to a new city and a new home as well as a new school where you meet a group of new students where you’d think you may or may not like them, but the more you get use to them the more they start to grow on you to the point where you have finally have made some new friends, this is pretty much the same experience with Generation 4 and Generation 5 to the point where you miss Twilight and the mane 6, but thankfully you have Sunny and the others to keep you in good hands (or hooves) so overall I’m glad that some viewers like you are actually defending G5 as a true fan as we are.

If this is going to be multiple esssays... Jesus Christ this is going to be a long year. Before I really start to watch this, the only comparison I can make in my own experience to your experience with G5 is that of Scott Pilgrim Takes Over. G5 and Takes Over aren't overwhelmingly despised as your intro makes it out to be, but they are a lot more hated for reasons we may not agree with. I could talk more about my comparison, but I'm going to try to watch more of the video, first.

Okay, finally watched it all the way through. Something I have a problem with, and don't know whether I will be able to fix about myself, is not listening to individual points if I see reason to rebut them, rather than listening all the way through before commenting. It's a problem I have with real life conversations, and the same goes for watching videos, and this was no different. You probably haven't seen my comment on Joshua Burner's review, since it didn't get much attention other than seven people liking it, but I too had a lot to criticize about that review, especially with how the video concluded (But dear God, I didn't remember that anti-vaxxer joke. I forgot just how some of these points were broken, but not to this extent! Fuck!), but still tried to acknowledge when there was something that was eye-opening to me. You may recall when I made the point about the lens of diversity and how Sunny had to put preconceived notions aside, which you discuss in your rebuttal of his video. I, for one, have come to see it as a result of the society established in A New Generation, especially considering the stuff that their school system taught them. You know, the whole "FRY BRAINS!" nonsense that Sprout emphasized at the beginning. But here's my issue with it: considering that Sunny was one of the only people that was willing to believe her father's beliefs of how society used to be and how it should be possible for the pony races to reunite, and not to mention how the education system's history has been rewritten as racist propaganda against the unicorns and pegasi. By that reasoning, I'd think Sunny would be the last person to ask the new unicorn in town, regardless if she just hid her inside of the lighthouse to protect her from whatever the ponies of Maretime Bay were going to do to her, if the preconceived notions were at all true. I'd at least think that she would try to get Izzy's perspective on what happened, and maybe get herself caught up on why Izzy suddenly showed up in Maretime Bay considering all that discrimination. Hell, Izzy kind of showcased just how uncomfortable it feels to have stereotypes assumed (or even asked about to someone who is being stereotyped) about oneself, when Izzy sniffs Sunny to check whether or not she smelled like sardines, just as the education of Briddlewood had taught unicorns about Earth ponies. Izzy was more eccentric and innocent in a different society, despite just how much she was more mature and willing to doubt the status quo than most of her fellow unicorns, much like that of Sunny and Hitch in comparison to their fellow Earth ponies. It was to prove that point, at least that's how I see it. Also, on the subject of Joshua Burner, are you familiar with his content beyond his My Little Pony reviews? I found his videos during my childhood through his video game countdowns, which he still does to this day, in contrast to his pony reviews. And while he's made jokes against some groups in the past (Recall the reactions of Alex Rochon and Jerry Peet to his jokes against Canadians from his earliest countdowns, for instance), I wouldn't be too surprised if his perception of A New Generation was the result of cluelessness when it came to the topic. If you take a look at one of his more recent videos, Top 10 Hated Characters We're Supposed to Like, he did get a lot of criticism for his Number 2 entry on Iris Heart from Neptunia, when he claimed that a certain scene might have depicted her as molesting one of the underaged characters in the game, and he went on to see that he may have misinterpreted it out of cluelessness, as he addressed in Top 10 Liked Characters We're Supposed to Hate. And he clearly has morals and ethics, with all of the criticisms he's made of heinous acts in real life in his Top 10 Fails series he's done since 2019. I don't want to see Josh as insensitive on purpose, trying to push the fear mongering agenda on purpose. Especially considering that I have friends who have, at times, made false assumptions about me because of my identity, such as a friend of mine jumping to conclusions that I was rich on the basis that I was Jewish. I may be a bit privileged from how my parents are well paid enough for me to attend a prestigious private college, and have plenty of money of my own to spend both from checks given by congregants from the Jewish temple my parents are the rabbi and cantor of when I graduated high school, but even so, I'm not some stingy rich kid just because I am Jewish. And I don't think that my friend really meant any harm with the assumption she made. With that I mind, I would hate to see Josh as condoning such blind agendas despite his other moral standings, but if he really is that way, I'll be damned if I'd keep watching his content.

As for everything else, I still think that some of the G5 contrarians aren't entirely baseless. Maybe they are, but that doesn't mean that they are like those who started the baseless G5 hate (If not hate with bigoted, blind agendas.) in the first place. I watch Star Strike a lot, for instance. He hasn't been the most positive about G5, and he made the mistake of reviewing all of Make Your Mark despite just how much he hated it nearly every step of the way. I would have preferred if he had moved on from G5 much earlier and tried to develop that April Fool's pitch for G6. Would have been a lot better for his creative juices. As for G5 itself and some of the things you brought up that weren't things I commented on when discussing Josh's review was about the whole Zephyr Heights royalty fraud plotline. Yes, Pipp was mortified at Zipp trying to flee the scene and sabotaging not only her act, but also the reputation of the Storm/Petals family. At the same time, though, once Haven's guards end up in the crosshairs of Alphabittle and his fellow unicorns, with an admittedly funny joke, the whole plotline of their reputation being brought down is essentially dropped and never brought up again. We certainly never see that get resolved in the movie, or in Tell Your Tale or Make Your Mark, at least not without directly showing us how they ended up moving on from the accusations and were willing to forgive them for their lies. Especially since Haven and her daughters were keeping up a lie to falsely instill hope that not all magic was gone, when when you think about it, despite all of their subjects simping for them (Especially Pipp, which translated into one of my biggest problems with her character both inside and outside of the movie.), you'd think some of the pegasi would be suspicious, if not disgusted that flight could become an ability exclusive to royalty, whilst making claims equivalent to claiming that the gods bestowed it upon them as a gift. But they didn't, not until they found out the lies through the incident. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but do we ever get to see how Haven keeps the well being of her subjects in in line and prevents any potential harm to their society, like a proper ruler should, that isn't just her being a figurehead that does nothing? What does her Queen title even mean? Is it essentially equivalent to the arbitrary royalty system in Britain, like with that of the late Elizabeth II? Following up on the comment I made on the preview about Twilight, I think it's a shame that Twilight is more often boiled down to the lessons she learned about friendship and how she developed into a leader and teacher throughout the show, and not who she was as a character. It's why I mentioned the G4 comics. (Which I uphold as objectively better than the show itself, even with it having some awful issues, and some otherwise great issues having glaring flaws, much like that of the show itself. I just think that the comics are much stronger with what they are willing to do, and do a lot more exploration of who the characters really are, more than what the show does in most cases, especially that of characters like Celestia and Rainbow Dash, two of the most contentious main characters of the show.) While they do not excuse the pilot for not giving Twilight much depth or room to grow with how the episode was paced, they provide a lot more insight into her character, including all the way back in her childhood, really showing how that "privileged rich kid" claim is shoddy, when a. Twilight never would have become Celestia's personal protege without the burst caused by the Sonic Rainboom during her exam (Which is something I have problems with for different reasons, even without seeing The Cutie Mark Chronicles or The Cutie Mark Re-Mark), and b. having to raise baby Spike when she was only seven or eight years old took a serious toll on her mental health, and more than justified her becoming antisocial as she grew older. She eventually made a good friend out of Spike, but essentially ruined her own reputation through Spike's presence. Hell, even talking just about the show, I've come to appreciate Twilight as a character, not just as a protagonist. You did say that you have your own asocial tendencies yourself, and felt patronized by the pilot's anvilicious stance on anti-sociality, and acknowledged how Twilight was a workaholic who needed to learn how to socialize and be willing to take enough time away her responsibilities to do so, and yet also cited Twilight as not being a relatable protagonist. Yes, we don't get much of her own rationale as to why she is trying to be a hero, beyond just aiding her teacher. But as I said in that comment, what people relate to is dependent on their background. I, for one, see a lot of myself in Twilight. I wish I could be someone like how she gradually develops, as she becomes more social and forms legitimate bonds with others outside of her family, even when you consider that Celestia essentially forced her out to "touch grass", as people of my generation say, in order to do that. And more importantly, I have come to appreciate her actual motivations. It's not just to help bring everyone together in peaceful harmony and help solve friendship problems and such, but also dealing with and growing from her own personal struggles as an anxiety-prone workaholic, trying to better herself despite her responsibilities, be they real or not. I know that I am very much like that, and I have my own development to do as a person, especially when it comes to the social aspect of my life. Most people may not appreciate Twilight for who she is as a character, but I do. And I'm sure that you do, too, but that definitely isn't how you come off during your Sunny vs Twilight comparison. And one last thing... Maybe it's not right of me, but I am very much ready to tear your arguments asunder when you discuss the claims of Opaline being a bad villain, once you actually get to it. Because while I may have given up on G5 after my experience watching Chapter 4, I still have a lot to say about that subject, if I haven't covered all the bases I can from my perspective as I did in my comment on the trailer for this video.

@@SmokeTheHorsehog I appreciate hearing your perspective. I still stand by my comparison of Twilight being a privileged rich kid. She was, and always has been that. There was a bit more to the comparison in my initial cut, but I cut it out because I didn’t want to seem like I was dogging on Twilight despite everything as this is a G5 video, not “Top 10 reasons why the FIM pilot sucks.” I still do love her character from Seasons 4-onwards. In the early seasons, she was more so a baseline generic kids’ protagonist, but she does get developed later on in the series, which I do appreciate. It doesn’t change the fact that Sunny is a better protagonist due to having far more development right out of the gate, but I don’t hate Twilight. Far from it. I just see things as they are, in which case, the cut section basically detailed how Twilight could rely on her family and her brother being in high places due to being in the Royal Guard for anything she wanted and her family had the money to get her into magic school for the entrance exam. She’s already on the top of the food chain even before the Rainboom happened, which makes her far less relatable than Sunny, who basically had to start from ground zero and work her way to the top by enduring true hardship and turmoil. A lot of the things you point out (such as raising Spike taking a toll on her mental health or dealing with personal issues like being a workaholic) aren’t actually shown on screen within FIM, and I’m not counting the comics (yet) because they aren’t canon. I think you’re applying more on to her than there actually is. I have no doubt that she has those issues, but we never really see her deal with them on a personal level like you’re describing. She’s always been portrayed as perfect on a fundamental level, with her flaws only emerging so she could learn the given lessons. Heck, her friends have more depth than she does as I pointed out. Also, you can try and tear apart my arguments on Opaline’s competency all you want, but the facts don’t lie and I think you’ll see that. I’m actually glad that you mentioned you plan to do this btw, so now I can go back and make those arguments stronger with additional sections before releasing the Make Your Mark defense videos as there actually is a lot more to say with the benefit of hindsight that early 2023 me didn’t plan for. So more cameos from Future Hawk, I guess. Thanks.

@@PresidentOfTheNewLunarRepublic Perhaps you have a point about me putting more on Twilight than the show presents, or successfully tries to present. A lot of my love for G4 has come from the comics, as I pointed out in my aside. And now that you mention it, there is enough evidence of Twilight's childhood and homelife having been fostered by her parents raising her in Canterlot, the home of the Sweet and Elite, meaning that they must have at least an amount of money that can help them afford to live in such a high class society. And even getting back to the comics, even before Shining became captain of the Royal Guard, the high school he attended in Canterlot just so happened to be the same college where he met Cadence, who was already a princess at the time. So there is plenty of evidence that Twilight's background was in complete contrast to where she was sent in the pilot. With Sunny, her background is far more clear, and there was even some deleted scenes that showed where Sunny got her initial attempts at activism from, from how her father tried to spread his message in public. In contrast to Twilight, who didn't grow up in a middle class society like Manehattan or Ponyville or even Maretime Bay, or a lower class society like wherever the Pie family rock farm is or Briddlewood. She was just as flawed of a person as Sunny, despite how infrequently the show may or may not have shown it (I say as someone who hasn't watched every episode of FiM, too...), but Sunny didn't come out of a background or was showcased with as little backstory as Twilight was in the pilot.

@@PresidentOfTheNewLunarRepublic However, there is something I'd like to point out about the comics, which I know you will get to for G5. It's not that the comics are not canon. The official statement from Bobby Curnow, lead editor of the G4 comics, is, and I quote from the archived forum posts, "we in the comics try and keep as close to current with the show as possible, and do our best not to break anything established in the show. However the show is under zero obligation to do the same with the comics. If we introduce something new, they are free to keep or leave it. I'm not aware of anyone involved with the show keeping track of the comics in an official capacity. So what we do in the comics has no bearing on the show." In other words, it has been officially stated that the comics are B-canon, or canon to the show unless the comics contradict the show or the show goes on to contradict the comics. And the reason for this, aside from the comics and show being different mediums and having different target demographics, is because the show writers and comic writers do not at all work with one another, and the only people that work with both of them are Hasbro execs. And especially since you'll be tackling the G5 comics, and eventually going into what you have to say about them, I'd say that parts of the comics should be considered when tackling the characters in the show. My Little Pony is a multimedia franchise with the same intents and purposes to promote the toy lines, and always has been since the 80s, after all. And that is why I stand by how my thoughts on why I appreciate the characters through their depictions in the comics, even if they aren't supported by what is depicted in the show, and most people would disregard them because of what you and I just established.

Yep, it's here! 🥳 Very good through and through, despite a few nitpicks and seeming hypocricies here and there which I hope to articulate at some point. Yeah, and you totally dismantled Josh's review even further than I ever could. 😲 (I actually thought back then up til now that it was well thought out and reasonable enough in his own rights, though mistaken in a few places and setting himself to give up on G5) 😶 Btw I thought the political woke narrative came about as a result of Hasbro flapping their gums during that Black History Month about how socially relevant their new MLP iteration was, how it was going to tackle "modern themes of diversity and inclusion" and how the main character's an activist, etc, and I don't blame people at the time for being skeptical and worried about how it was going to be like. (Plus, people were fussing about how whatever the movie was going for, was already covered ad nauseum in FiM, especially at the end! Was it really that necessary and relevant to hammer the same messages into us again so soon??) I certainly worried too about it, but I did keep an open mind as to how it could be more than that and treat its race narrative with nuance and depth and be its own thing like it ended up being (as well as how FiM did it beforehand, arguably). Yeah I still saw the race and unity narratives (and Zootopia comparisons) in there as well as the potential for em go woke at the company's leisure (after all, Hasbro and the show staff are still secular and liberal as most any), but I'm glad to see my fears resolved so far, as they seem to know their audience and willing to play things safe on that front (i.e. not be woke or offensive to anyone), and I can continue to recommend mlp around without reservation. 😙

@@Longma1 A lot of things in FIM don’t hold up for me anymore after seeing G5 do them better. I know the Terrible Trio got turned to stone, but it came after so many villains were reformed unnecessarily like Alhuizotl and Garble, both of whom could’ve stayed villains and I don’t think anything would have changed. Alhuizotl being a misunderstood guardian breaks continuity with previous Daring Do episodes and I just don’t think they did enough with Garble to really sell his redemption after so many episodes of portraying him as the bad guy who wanted to *declare war on ponies.* It’s the obsessiveness to make them complex when they weren’t originally that I take issue with and what helps me appreciate Sprout being a more back-to-basics sort of obstacle instead. A 1-episode redemption can be done well and I always praise Diamond Tiara’s for being near perfect, but it’s like the MLP staff were never were able to capture that lightning in a bottle again and thought they could do it every time with minor antagonists because it worked with DT. It didn’t, and that’s one of the main issues I take issue with in Season 9 (amongst many other things). Looking back at it critically, there’s a lot more holes with certain episodes other creators have pointed out in the past that I now find myself agreeing with in hindsight. Was I exaggerating there a bit for comedic effect? Yes, I will admit that. Really, the only season to really do this and screw it up this badly was Season 9. But I don’t often find myself liking 11th hour redemptions unless the writers make darn sure the character earned it, especially when they were established in previous episodes to be anything but worthy of a second chance. I hope that makes sense.

I’ll definitely consider making that relatively soon because there’s a lot of things I can say, even if some of it might be shameless advertising on how my upcoming ‘Guardians of Harmony’ story will hopefully fix some of the problems that the pilot has. But a retrospective video on the FIM pilot is definitely possible, as examining it by more updated storytelling standards, as well as how the show itself has evolved since it came out has been something I’ve wanted to make for quite some time. That alongside a possible video on why I don’t think the Hearth’s Warming Eve story doesn’t hold up that well nowadays both sound like interesting projects.

So, uh, maybe a bad comparison to say they are substantially different locations. 47:38 Thatʼs shown at the end of the pilot 2-parter, when she realizes that she wants friendship and asks to stay to be with her friends. Itʼs her arc of learning about friendship, at least at first; later she has other arcs. And, since weʼre combining ourselves to the movie, I think most people (though apparently not Josh) would agree that Sunny does have a good arc there; a lot fewer see her as having interesting character arcs in the later series but those are different videos. 1:04:52 Josh is one of the reviewers who thinks there were too many songs in later seasons. I donʼt think it was for exactly these reasons, but he is not being hypocritical here. 1:19:50 He said “I half expect” about this. It was not a serious prediction, but an expression of frustration at what he saw as heavy-handed messaging. Yes, the movie is deeper than that, but here you are misrepresenting his review. All of that said, neither he nor you address the biggest problem with the movie: in the angry mob song, thereʼre the lines “Look at this guy / Uh, my nameʼs Rob.”. Given that pony names are often related to what they do and who they are, and are rarely human-like names, what does Rob do? Should Sheriff Hitch be worried about this guy?

@@danielrhouck Zephyr Heights isn’t Canterlot, nor was it ever implied to be Canterlot. I get both cities are on a mountain, but they look nothing alike to each other and there’s nowhere in the movie that says so (plus, ZH is covered by clouds and where the city is placed is completely different). They *are* actually substantially different locations, and MYM later confirms this through Sunny saying that the pegasi built the city from the ground up after the ponies separated. The whole “Zephyr Heights is Canterlot” thing emerged as a prevalent fan theory in G5’s early days, but it was never a sentiment confirmed by any official media. Heck, even the comics contradict this through the Discord arc. So it wasn’t a bad comparison. For me, Twilight’s “arc” in early FIM is too basic and didn’t lead to anything interesting. The only times I can say she had arcs that were interesting were in Seasons 4 and 9, both which take time to build her development and have each lesson she learned build towards a greater conclusion. Twilight didn’t really have an arc in the early seasons. It was just “learning friendship” and day to day lessons. Compare that to Sunny’s arc in the movie and in MYM and TYT. She had an arc. It was about mastering her abilities, becoming a leader, and inspiring her fellow ponies. It was well built up throughout both shows and culminated in Chapter 6. I will admit that the movie did give her a much stronger arc, but I’m saving that comparison for a later video. Even TYT Season 2 gave her a new arc. I appreciate you pointing out my next two points, but I still think he took things way too far by forcing everything into the box of “heavy-handed preaching.” The movie was nothing like that, and I’m sure people know this. Finally, you might be taking the whole “Look at that guy/Uh, my name’s Rob” line a little too seriously. It was a joke rhyme meant to get the audience to laugh during the “Angry Mob” song. And Rob is never seen again afterwards. I don’t think we should be thinking too deeply about this.

Yes, it is coming back. I never said that she was reappearing in this generation full time as that isn’t the case whatsoever. Her previous statement that was publicized on EQD implied that she wasn’t returning AT ALL for G5, yet we still got those scenes with her. Even though they were brief, the scenes still count as “coming back” in a way, albeit in a minor fashion, because she was lending her voice to a production she previously said she wouldn’t be a part of. So it does get me curious as to what exactly changed her mind on the matter. Perhaps getting the chance to play Twilight again was eventually too good of an opportunity for Tara Strong to pass up as it’s one of her most iconic roles.

@@PresidentOfTheNewLunarRepublic If I’ll be fair here, I’ll only criticize it as its own thing so my love for G4 won’t cloud my views. So I won’t be making comparisons such as “Pinkie was better than Izzy” and all that. Anyways, the main characters are just kinda boring and jarring to me. In the movie, it seemed like Sunny was set up to be an explorer and a pony to search ancient Equestria just like her father. At least, that was how I interpreted it. But in the show, she barely cares about all that. In fact, Zipp was the only one investigating the crystals which Sunny worked HARD to find and is doing what Sunny should’ve been doing as a main character in my eyes. It seemed like Zipp is the main character in the show since Sunny is just cast away to the sidelines. That seemed a bit off. Izzy felt dumbed down in the show. In the movie, she felt unique in a way. She was goofy and bubbly but was toned down and mellowed enough for me to like her. Here? It seemed like all the mellowness was gone and her goofy and bubbly side took over entirely. Also the VA change. I get that actors for the movie costs money, but Izzy’s VA in the show and Izzy’s VA in the movie are like night and day. Her VA gave Izzy a certain style that the new one just doesn’t. She’s a good VA but it feels… weird in a way. Hitch was completely ruined for me, I’m sorry. In the movie, he was a strict sheriff who cares *deeply* about the law, but had a soft and kind heart on the inside. That was a character trait I loved about him. He was confident, but gentle. The show? All the confidence was drained from him and instead he adopted this anxious, insecure personality out of complete nowhere. Where was the confidence in the movie? Because to me he now seems like the kind of dad that would bubble wrap his kid if they’re going sledding. Pipp’s phone addiction thing is kinda annoying to me, *but* I’m glad she’s finally getting to the point that not everything needs to be recorded and be posted on social media, and her moments are kinda funny, so I don’t have much criticism for her. Zipp is the only part of the main cast I’m rooting for. As I mentioned before, she’s literally doing Sunny’s job as a main character and actually cares and investigates problems with the crystals instead of just shrugging it off like it’s no big deal. The detective gimicks also came from nowhere since, at least to my knowledge, there were no implications that Zipp wanted to be a detective in the movie. And the show is implying that she wanted to do it for so long before she met Sunny and Izzy. Like… what?? That’s another problem I have with the show. They keep giving these characters gimmicks that, as far as I know, were not present in the movie. It doesn’t feel smooth, and it feels jarring when watching the movie right before the show. Also the baby dragon. It’s a no-go for me. Also there’s the lore fiasco and the dragon designs… but I don’t want to make a giant long comment. So unless you want me to explain why I have a problem with the two, I can always explain. I just wanted to get the elephant in the room out of the way, and that’s the way the characters are written compared to the movie. So perhaps you can shed some light on those. Also Misty is the best character in G5. I love her.

I actually never saw Sunny as being set up to become an explorer in the movie, and that’s something I’ll be covering in my upcoming analysis video. She cared about bringing ponies together first and foremost and giving back to the community, and that’s something the show adapts. Plus, the later chapters of the show (particularly Chapter 5) do show Sunny researching with Zipp, so that criticism should be null and void unless you haven’t seen the later installments. Even Tell Your Tale shows off their researching dynamic, so you can’t really say that Sunny was sidelined all that much. Was she a little? Sure. But in the episodes focused on her in both shows, she absolutely was portrayed as a main character with her own arc, and if you view both shows as an entire narrative whole, then I think it will work better for you. Sunny still has that emotional core to her character and she geeks out over seeing ancient history in quite a bit of episodes. Izzy felt dumbed down? Eh, I don’t think so. Yeah, her goofiness is played up a bit here, but she has absolutely not lost her unique, sincere side. I can understand being weirded out by the VA change, I mean heck, it took me some time to get used to it as well. But the show still goes out of its way to show her more vulnerable and humble sides, particularly in the Traditional Unicorn Sleepover, where we see her being homesick for Bridlewood and her genuine excitement over having Misty as a friend. I can see where you’re coming from if we’re talking about the Tell Your Tale version of her, but the Make Your Mark version? There are a lot of moments throughout where that sincerely and humbleness that made the movie portrayal so great come to the surface. Hitch for me was not ruined at all. In fact, giving him that sort of fatherhood arc adds extra dimensions to his character. He still does the right thing when it matters most and episodes like Growing Pains, Have You Seen This Dragon, Family Trees, The Roots of All Evil, etc, do show that confidence and gentleness he showed on the movie. He was never this super serious figure in the movie as it intentionally subverted that trope and gave him a lot of jokey moments, so giving him the same in the series doesn’t ruin him for me at all. He’s given extra responsibility in the show and the times he’s shown to be anxious, he absolutely deserves to be, particularly in “Growing Pains” because earth pony magic is unpredictable and he cares for the town first and foremost. And he’s right to worry about Sparky as he’s grown this attachment to the baby dragon that gives him an extra layer of development, as it allows him to open up more and display his gentle sides more in my opinion. In regards to Zipp, the detective side absolutely did not just come out of nowhere. Even in the movie, she’s shown to be particularly sneaky and hyper vigilant in Zephyr Heights, always questioning things and not being content to stick to the ridiculous lie about only royals not being able to fly. It’s this desire for truth and her nonconformity to the status quo of her kingdom that shows that she’s always had detective instincts from the start, and the whole preparation for the heist montage, where she’s the one who initiates the plan, shows how many steps ahead she is at strategy and getting things done. So she’s always had this attribute. Finding herself and being a detective was always the logical next step for her. Yeah, I love Misty too. She and Sunny are my absolute favorites as well. So I hope that clears some stuff up. I’m not going to speak on the dragons myself as Faolan Cortez and Doc Anubis are making a video about that and can probably explain it way better than I could, but as for the stuff I did cover, I hope that clarifies some things. @@PresidentOfTheNewLunarRepublic Ah okay your explanation made things make sense. I guess I just don’t mesh with the G5 shows too well. I gave it a chance, and it just wasn’t for me. I haven’t really touched G5 since Secrets of Starlight (in case they mentioned Starlight Glimmer in some way somehow. I know she’s most likely dead in this timeline but one can’t hurt to check). The things I said were from my last viewing of G5, so I haven’t watched any other G5 related things to see if my points were valid or not. G5 isn’t my cup of tea, but I’m happy you like the show. If it makes people happy, I wouldn’t mind in the slightest. It’s just not something I would binge on anytime soon lol Thanks for taking the time to explain and debunk my criticisms.

Sorry to see you didn’t enjoy the G5 shows, but thanks for being respectful about it. I get the shows may not be for everyone, but heck, this generation is a writer’s goldmine of analysis for me, so I guess we just see things differently. That’s completely fine. But I highly encourage you catch up on G5 whenever you feel like it as things are really picking up again and Tell Your Tale Season 2 is surprisingly really great so far. :)

as a close friend of beatfox's, i'll say this now. he makes content regarding MLP for fun, and just because he has a differing opinion than you doesn't mean he's constantly uploading 'hate' content. I mean, if you don't like what he posts, its pretty easy to log off or step back from his video. It should be CLEAR his videos are meant to be for fun or entertaining to some, but not all and that's okay. He includes memes here and there to keep viewers engaged / entertained. as a youtuber, you should be able to digest opinions that you don't agree with. but telling people to 'not watch his video just cause it goes against my argument' is stupid. let people have a mind of their own, and if they want to watch it, let them. ps: I also think its mad disrespectful you attempt to boycott creators for sharing different views on G5. you act like people such as beatfox is actively going out of their way to boycott people like you who watch a show that is directed to little girls. its insane how this is the only way to boost your ego and channel growth simply because videos like this exist. you like G5? congratulation's, but not everyone feel's the same way.

I understand he makes these videos for fun. We all do and that’s the point of video creation. However, as a creator, it is my responsibility to point out when people like him get basic stuff wrong and end up misinforming the community. It isn’t about “boosting my ego” and I for one find that notion very funny, considering that I consider myself lucky to even have a platform here to begin with. I had to work hard to get where I am now and it took me a lot longer because I don’t just tell the majority what they want to hear and be done with it. It isn’t disrespectful to boycott creators who hate G5 as they do nothing productive and they should’ve moved on a long time ago once they found that this generation wasn’t working for them. But nope. Apparently posting tons of hate videos on something he clearly doesn’t enjoy gets the better views. I’m glad that you’re loyal to your friend. That’s something we should all be and good on him for having someone like you to defend him from any criticism whatsoever. That’s something very special and he’s lucky to have you. I know that if I was being called out in passing, I’d want someone to jump in and defend me as well, so good on you for sticking by his side. But I’m not going to conform to suddenly the status quo and not make videos calling people out just because you two are friends. If you think it’s disrespectful, too bad. I downloaded his Chapter 6 review so that I wouldn’t have to watch it on KZbin and give him the extra cash from my view, and now I’m about to make a response video calling it out. So yeah. Sorry you feel that way about what I’m doing, but you clearly didn’t watch anything in the video if you think I just boycott creators because they don’t like G5. In fact, on the official announcement video for this project, I was respectful towards someone who had fallen out of love for G5 and wished them the best of luck in their future video endeavors. I don’t hate specific creators for “having a different opinion than me.” I hate them for spreading misinformation about what they’re reviewing. That is what I call out.

The fandom has been DEAD for years after many mf’s like tooncritic and all these weirdos kept getting called out as pedophiles, and people grew out of love with it all together. It isn’t just these people who have something negative to say about the show, it’s been like this for years now. Not everything is all sunshine and rainbows, this is real life, not the show. I’d also like to note that it isn’t JUST G5 that gets shit, a lot of people shit on G4 for how much poor writing it develops later on because of all the inconsistencies and cash grabs, yes, I said CASH grabs because it’s true. (Princess twilight and Candace should be proof ENOUGH) You talk about the ‘hate videos’ he’s producing meanwhile you try to boycott people like this, calling him an alt-right dude, which again, DISRESPECTFUL as hell, and this is over a PONY SHOW mind you. You try calling these people out when again, at least to my knowledge, especially with beatfox, isn’t going out of his way to try to stop others from enjoying it. People can develop their own opinion and not be mindless idiots who listen to everything a youtuber has to say, they can watch it for themselves. While the fandom did shrink a bit in the twilight years of FIM due to everything you described, there were still plenty of people excited for the new generation coming out until people like Clownfish TV started introducing the idea that it is okay to bash on MLP for no reason other than precious snowflake feelings. That’s what the fandom has become nowadays and I’ve been there to see it. The fandom wasn’t fully dead until these types of KZbinrs killed it. And yes, I have called out other people outside of this fandom before for doing the exact same thing, but my old channel barely got anywhere because back then, I didn’t possess the editing skills to really make a long-term impression. That channel is basically all but dead now with the exception of me just posting whatever random shit I want at any given time and this channel has already far exceeded it in 6 months.

Also, you called him a pretentious HAG, that’s my bad, as if that’s calling him that is any better. It’s been dead way BEFORE these KZbinrs killed it. People grow up, they grow out of love with it, and they definitely began once the piss poor writing was evident with the show by lumping in additional characters constantly to the main cast and making the plot more and more complicated than it had to be. I say I have the greenlight to call these people what they are (or more specifically act like) even if it seems hurtful, because if they don’t see people taking issue with them continuously spamming hate videos, then they have no incentive to do other things. People vote with their comments and videos a lot of the time. It’s our job as viewers to point out what they aren’t seeing so that they become better. I see how they act and how they tend to misrepresent stuff, so I call them out for doing so in turn. You don’t have to watch the response video if you don’t want to. Nobody’s forcing you to do that and if I am being completely honest, I didn’t think anyone from beatfox’s viewer base would even stumble upon this video so soon, so that at least goes to show how quickly word gets around. They got rid of that just after chapter 1. It's became a typical kid's show since. Yeah, Sunny remembers her time as an activist yet she feels more like a typical hero than an activist now. I want to like g5, my main issue is tyt.

Even Tell Your Tale has been improving in my opinion. I do think they need to take the story a bit more seriously going forward, especially since it’s meant to carry the Allura arc, but they have shown that they could do it, and the latter half of Season 1 feels different and more concise than the first half, with a lot more heart. So here’s hoping that Season 2 delivers big time.

im not comparing it to g4 and i dont think thats why all critics hate it - personally i think it has too much inconsistent lore. Dragons having cutie marks, dragons no longer hatching from extreme heat, & Opalines fire powers being some of them. it's a bit difficult to avoid the g4 parallel when they chose to make it in the same universe.
