My fiancé and I created our own version of this with a plastic dog crate tray and we bought a patch of sod every two weeks when we were housetraining our puppy before he got his shots (and we were also on third floor). A lot less expensive than what these companies charge!

Absolutely! When I had my puppy, I bought a large litter tray, chucked a square of turf grass in there and switched it out every week. Only costed me a few dollars and my puppy was completely toiled trained in less than a month

Other than possible training of a very young puppy there are at least 3 reasons why dogs must be taken out several times a day , to "go", for proper exercise and for for the dog to explore (it sees and smells far more than we could we experience ourselves which is why dogs should be allowed to stop, smell things etc at least a few times during every walk, its their socialife esp if not living with other dogs).
