I secretly love seeing your hands in action - your fascinating tattoos, little details like nail polish or your thimble, the shockingly large gash on one finger... I feel they're a quiet reminder of the work you put into your projects. It's both a reminder to not get carried away & an inspiration that progress is possible The way you processed the filling and backing was so clever! When my brother's first child turned 3, I made her a quilt (without patchwork, though, and with a machine), but I really struggled with the 3 fabrics : how to sew them together to make turning them right-side-out possible, etc. Did you intend from the start that the herringbone / V-pattern would give way to a wilder, more organic lay-out of the squares? I think I get distracted by the different prints of each square, so I'm having a hard time to see a larger design (if there is any). Best wishes for 2022, and all the projects you like! PS the idea of birds nesting with your thread ends is incredibly sweet!

Oh my god you’re so right that cut on my finger looks so nasty. I’ve been looking at it for two weeks now I’m used to it so my brain edits it out, but goodness I should have put a band aid on that 🙃 If I remember correctly, I wanted to do two v patterns that meet in the middle, but I never had enough of each fabric to pull it off, so I switched to “just any way that looks good” after a while. When (if) I ever start another quilt, it’ll be machine made and I want to make a proper plan and layout. Do you have any pictures of your quilts online? I’d love to see them!

@@michaelaschmid personally I felt your hands illustrate that kitchen magic calls for sweat, and spit, and sometimes blood ! Since it's clearly healing, it didn't bother me - it merely made me wonder what you'd been up to hahaha That can-do spirit also applies to your projects : you work with what you have & allow your designs to evolve, while for my quilts I just buy the fabric I need. I've got a series of pictures "making of" on my phone (dating back to 2018)... let me put them in a slideshow!
