By and Down the River is the perfect title for this beautiful haunting meditative trance of a track that flows brilliantly through a melodic stream of just that, a River. Maynard vocals are absolutely stunning on this track so warm and soothing but yet unsettling at the same time. One of many reason Maynard is one of the best unique vocalist ever as he has mastered the ability to execute the balance between them perfectly. And musicians take note as the guitarist has absolutely nailed the ability of playing and sustaining these single note Melodies that are so simple but so dam powerful at the same time. It’s crazy how at times playing less is much more emotionally impactful than muddying the track by overloading it. They definitely found the perfect balance with this one. A Perfect Harmony

This is a slightly slower and more downbeat version than what made it onto Eat the Elephant. The version that appears on Eat the Elephant is sped up ever so slightly in terms of tempo, has a few modifications to the lyrics, and in my opinion even better vocals from Maynard....it holds together just a little better than this version. Would be curious to see if you felt the same.

Maynard said in an interview that Tool is his ego, aggression, and power. A Perfect Circle is his more feminine side, empathetic, and caring. And Puscifer is his humor, comical, and levity. The man is a genius who has always found the most talented musicians to collaborate with in order to give the world some of the best songs ever written.

Julian maybe it wasn't intentional, but huge props for requesting the OG version of this song. Maybe it's just me but I think there's a lot more emotion in this version than the remixed one.🤘

Totally agree, dude. I hear this version 7 years ago and my mind blew up. It was my favourite song of APC. Few years later, when I saw this song on "Eat The Elephant" I was expecting so much. After listen it, I said, "sorry, but this is not By And Down, this is By And Down The River, something different.

The drums feel better incorporated in the ETE version, in my opinion.
@residentkrockhead Жыл бұрын
@@thepooz7205 i don’t remember a single fill in the entire ete track. It’s a very plain part. Granted, the same fill happens at the end of every bar here, but it’s something. Love Freeze’s cymbal/hi-hat work at the end of this original and those 16th notes are gone in the final chorus of the ete track.

I prefer this version of By and Down the River so so much more than the version they ended up putting on Eat the Elephant. It was perfect the first time, and I almost feel like it got ruined when they re-edited for the full album.
@residentkrockhead Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Eat the elephant has good stuff on it, “The Doomed”, “TalkTalk”, etc. But it’s so over produced that it almost hurts to listen to sometimes…ESPECIALLY the Ete rendition of this masterpiece of a song. Such a shame.

The first time I heard this song was completely by accident, a few years later I heard the newer version and to me the newer version seems hollow. No emotion to the instruments and vocals. It’s something about this versions bass and drums that captivates me more.. The red rocks live perfomance is 🔥🔥🔥

This is an old version of the song, the updated version is on the album Eat The Elephant. Maynards vocals are way better on the new one.

Oi oi oi A Perfect Circle! The dark and brooding middle child. Can’t go wrong imo every songs amazing, but particularly that beautiful guitar in this track. 🤤 Gotta throw a request out there, and they’re from Sweden. Also classified as THALL!! (Similar to Djent but more.. Djental 😆) Vildhjarta - Brännmärkt (Excellent showcase imo) Vildhjarta - när de du älskar kommer tillbaka från de döda (When those you love come back from the dead) (MUSIC VIDEO)
