Right now, I consider the phone and car integration a premium feature so if a car does not have that in the near future, I wouldn't call that a premium level car. NIO definitely made the right decision to make such an integration, which will become an advantage where no other car manufacturers has. I would like to see the same features apply to the sub-brands as well. If Mercedes wants to continue to be a premium brand, it will have to do the same so MB is very far behind.

I was not in favor of the phone however I am changing my mind and really like it! NIO needs to do more videos and marketing what the phone can do. This was a great overveiw.. starting to see a moat for Nio developing 😊

The Nio Phone eco-system is totally under the Co.'s control so the phone can be fully optimized and integrated into the car system without having to discuss with a 3rd party phone company at all. Brilliant.

The streaming seems like a nice idea, but without a passenger screen and only such a small console screen it seems pointless. Is it also ever coming to Europe?

It's an interesting question, Harris. At the moment the only thing I use my phone for, in the car, is Google maps which I like a lot. So it's a bit hard to imagine what other functionality I would use when I eventually get an ev. But having watched so many EV reviews, what is clear is that currently the functionality of most car infotainment is much better when it runs through a mobile phone. Presumably the real benefits to full synchronicity will come in automated driving. The scary part about this is 5G adoption rates. I live near Manchester in the UK. 5G is not a problem here. My brother lives just over an hour away, in a (hilly) national park, where they don't even have 4G (he can't even have a smart meter for his electricity). Nationally, we decided that Huawei's 5G tech was a security risk so we will be in the slow lane for future national coverage (which will only get worse once 6G becomes the standard). Maybe I'm over thinking but the convergence you describe does seem to come with risks when driving through 5 & 6G blind spots.

IMHO if NIO can make profits (in medium term) from their smartphone division why not, but sadly I think it will not be the case (I hope, I am wrong). Except NIO has to become as "smart" ( ruthless 😆) as Apple, to somehow makes that smartphone semi mandatory 😅. ( Maybe by making CPU/SOC-less secondary car screen / screen only, etc,... That we as costumer HAVE to put compatible smartphone to it's docking in order make those screen fully functional )

if tesla made a smartphone it'd be the most practical smartphone ever made because it would be able to make voice calls and have data connectivity anywhere on planet earth. tmobile phones can already send and receive text messages anywhere in america even remote mountains using Starlink and i think also make voice calls? but soon they will also have data connectivity as well, but T-Mobile is only paying for these features within north america

Developing and producing smart phone is very costly. I think an app can solve the integration from all kind of smart phones.

I dont see how Nio mmaking a phone that sells out completely within a few days was a bad idea.. Plus you dont need a Nio car to use the Nio phone as a phone... Lots of Chinese people have bought the phone even though they dobt own the car yet as it doesn't have a load of bloadware or adverts built into it like other Chinese phone manufacturers, Also the Nio phone has very good specs.

Why would you have the app if you didn't own the car? Apps cost a lot to develop and wouldn't be free in an app store. Just develop a phone to sell to the masses. Also, Nio doesn't have to pay to have their app available, they have the phone.
