What a wonderful sight.... reminds me so much if my lovely dad smoking his pipe in front of our fire. As a kid I loved the smell of it. I have his little pen knife complete with tobacco dibber and bowl scraper on display in our little cottage. I treasure it.

@@paulineprice9534 I know what you mean, there are ancient Polaroid pictures of my sister and i as toddlers in our element posing with our Dad's meerschaum pipes in our gobs. Watching Dad open a new pouch of Gold Block we were transfixed as if it was some kind of literal gold treasure! 40 years later i'm continuing the mantle and thoroughly enjoy my pipes just like my Dad did.

Richard your a real card .I do wish we could go back in time and there you would be on the cafe sidewalk with your pipe espousing the theories of life. A theatrical genius with a caring and inquisitive nature, your what our world needs .Little did I realise when you packed up your old man's house where you were heading. It's pleasure to smell and hear your analogue smoke.

I love the fact that Zippo lighters are available to people around the world! I live about 1 1/2 hrs from the Zippo/Case factory in Bradford, Pa, and finally visited it a couple years ago. I love C&D’s “Jolly Old St. Nick” at Christmastime. I wish we could get “Condor” over here!

Gawith and Hoggarth Exclusive Black Cherry is a nice twist on the black cavendish, lower level of lighter tobaccos... If you have any black cavendish that's a little heavy/wet, mix it with a bit of Gold Block, doesn't offset the taste any, and helps it burn without going out...

I have a decent cellar of jars but yeah what I have been doing because there is just so much to try is smoking a tin and then on to a different blend. It really lets you nail down the taste and nuances of a blend and let's you form an honest opinion.

and aromatics are getting banned from Jan 1 in Aussie as they fall under "flavoured tobacco products". its absolutely ridiculous what this country has come to. Like a 14yo is going to be drawn to smoking via a pipe and some Cult Blood Red Moon? I've just started up the pipe again after years as cigars are just so expensive. but now half the pipe baccy options are going. fortunately I'm not much for aromatics but there are a few nice ones
@Which-Way-Out

@@user-yb9hi3us4p I wasn't aware of that. Flavored tobacco', well all tobacco is flavored with something. There's an obvious agenda playing out. The big pHarma synthetics takeover, and anything natural, for that matter, is under attack. That tells me nicotine in it's natural form has beneficial properties.

Peterson De Luxe Navy Rolls are an autumn winter favourite of mine - taste of fruitcake. Orlik Golden Sliced for spring summer - zesty taste - been buying Gawith Hogarth Full Virginia Flake and their Best Brown Flake as no floral lakeland casing, but needs some drying time. All easy to get hold of online in the UK. The USA blends are widely available in mainland Europe (Germany etc.). Clan and St. Bruno are your UK supermarket blends.

Hello Richard, A couple of hours after watching this video, I saw another one from my KZbin recommendations covering pipe smoking were the chap Nathan (The Vaping Piper) talked about the Peterson pipe smoker’s lighter he was reviewing after receiving it as a gift, which looked identical to your new one. Nathan also covered his other lighters including something called a Z Plus! Which is a butane filled, electric ignition unit insert for pipe smokers to fit into a Zippo lighter casing, which (on a side note) from the comments stated it’s far more wind resistant than the Peterson, Knowing that you also own a cigarette smoker’s Zippo lighter I thought I’d mention it in passing as perhaps something you might want to take a look at possibly for a back-up pipe lighter for yours, just a thought.

Great chat and observations - relaxing and entertaining! On the issue of price: in the hermit state formerly known as Australia where the Karen's of the Nanny State (male, female and whatever) run unbridled, a 50 gram tin of Peterson's 965 will set you back a cool $175.00, which on todays exchange rate is 87.79 pounds sterling.

You have to try one of the Rattrays ones especially Hal O' The Wynd and Old Gowrie, they are the best i've tried in quite a while. Other than that, i enjoyed Orlik Vintage Aged Golden Sliced and Fribourg & Treyer Special Brown Flake but the Rattrays being broken flake was also very well-behaved. On several occasions it was lighting up properly from just one match and going for half an hour.

The US market will be cut down quickly in the next few months as Sutliff is getting shut down , as STG bought Mac Barren and they owned Sutliff. C&D is the last large tobaccanist here in the US. As it is unknown what they will keep making or stop making is unknown. We are hearing that it might all be taken off the market to gain more purchasing power of there own blends already. As far as Christmas blends , I make my own blend with tobacco I do not like that much and add " Frosty Mint" make by Sutliff to them and let them sit in a jar for a couple weeks and POW! It's a blend with a touch of mint that covers up what I did not like and I smoked the rest of the tobacco I did not like so much. 😂

I know you passed over it in a previous video, but - how do you keep them alight??? I've tried a couple of different types of baccy, but I think it's probably the pipe itself (a cheapo eBay one) that's quite small. Is there a measurement/dimension equation type thing for the bowl that'll inhibit or promote the baccy continuing to burn? I literally have to puff away constantly, otherwise it just goes out!
