Biggest tip for pipe smokers is buy as much tobacco as you can it will never be cheaper than it is now. Buy some kinler jars and start cellering, pipe tobacco lends itself beautifully to aging (although not so much aromatics) but the taste will improve and mellow. Also any tobacco you buy and don't like cellar it's taste will change slightly over time but so will yours so keep it and dip in now and then rather than discard out of hand. Also if you buy in bulk and cellar it you'll still be able to enjoy a relaxing bowl long after our soulless fun sucking politicians have managed to ban it

My father smoked a pipe from morn til night, every day. I would save up my pennies and buy him a tin of Gold Block for his birthday and christmas presents, even though I hated the stink of the smoke!
@arthuroldale-ki2evАй бұрын
I have been a pipe smoker for 60 years now, and only tried Gold Block once, I didn`t like the smell or the taste of that particular blend , I don`t think I even finished the tin, not all pipe blends are going to smell nice, like all food dishes are going to taste nice. While Some blends, are like having ones own Hanging Gardens of Babylon in a tin .

My husband and I enjoy pipes. We live in the USA and there are pipe shows. Our local tobacconist hosted one- so we went. My husband told me to pick a pipe out for Christmas. So, I picked out a Nording Fantasy free hand pipe. It is a beautiful thing. Wish I could attach a photo here. I know what I am getting for Christmas and I am excited about it.

Happy Birthday and a merry "CHRISTMAS !" to you both ! " There is a great deal of contentment in a pipe bowl of good pipe tobacco !" When I was 16 years old in 1962 , I started an apprenticeship to be a car mechanic in Colchester Essex ( England ) and there was this old mechanic, who would say that every morning break time, me , being only 16 and into American cigarettes and combing my hair to try and look like James Dean , I thought , silly old sod ! When I was 18 and left home and got myself a place of my own, I got friendly with an antique dealer with a lovely big antique shop in the town, one day in his shop I took a fancy to a tobacco jar , purchased it, and then went to a tobacconist , bought myself a pipe and tobacco and it was not that long , before I too , was saying , There is a lot of contentment , in a pipe bowl of good pipe tobacco !

Bleed all the butane out of the lighter and refill, that helps with air buildup which could cause you to have a small flame. I also like Clipper lighters I have the "heat treat" or "Icy" rainbow ones.

Still have them all (a lot!) but I don't smoke pipes any more (became a snuff fiend). However, the very useful things I had were a couple of antique metal tobacco tampers and an adjustable reamer for maintaining the pipe bowls in wooden pipes. Pouches and pipe racks are also handy. Of course, with tobacco the price it now is, any gift of that would surely be welcome.

Well done for supporting UK pipe smokers - we need the numbers to get some of the USA blends like the 50 odd blends from Cornell & Diehl over here in the UK - they are available in Germany so not sure why we miss out on the UK 🇬🇧

Richard I always enjoy watching you and Julia discussing and smoking pipes. About CAVENDISH TYPE: Originally referring to the cut of tobacco, “Cavendish” has become synonymous with the most popular variety of cased (sweetened) aromatic tobacco. They are mild and sweet. Most are richly cured to provide more flavor and aroma. Cheers Ron

Richard, your pipe, I believe is a Hardcastle Zulu shape, I know because I have got one myself. My grandfather, used to smoke a pipe, and his daughters used to buy him a tin of his favourite tobacco for Xmas

This'll make your eyes water: Fifty grams of my rolling tobacco, went up to over forty three quid after the 'budget', before which it was - some - thirty nine. In 2012, I came back from the Netherlands with a couple of kilos of baccy, each fifty of which had cost about a fiver - they were - some - nine quid back here at the time. Last year, I spent more on baccy, than I did on groceries. SOMEONE, is forcibly extracting the urine, seems to me. After six decades, to suggest that I knock the baccy on the head? Bit late in the day for that, I think.

Great video, I'm currently alternating between Gold Block, and Sioux Virginia Blend, both of which stay lit longer than the Gawith Hoggarth American CV (Cherry & Vanilla), which preceded them, which is a much more moist tobacco, and probably not the best for a novice like myself, that said it does have a nice aroma, and I shall probably buy another tin in the future. Many thanks for your great video's, in particular the John Hamer one.

I have had problems keeping CV lit, G&H tobaccos benefit from drying out a bit. I got that tip from reviews.

Hope you had a good birthday Julia, love your jacket, what’s the brand? Love to get a similar one. In my opinion the whole world is focused on debating is bad for you, adding sweetners to drinks etc etc and I totally get why we shouldn’t do certain things but life is short and not guaranteed, so the little pleasures in life should be allowed 🎵

And then I saw Richard smoking a pipe on richard Vobes youtube channel , and I thought : How funny, I had the same idea at almost the same time . Odd, its'nt it ?

Hi nice video. As a couple who smoke pipes do you find that there is a big difference in the flavours / blends of tobacco which you favour, sweet v earthy, Condor v sweet cherry. thank again Michael
@iovmerotАй бұрын
You guys have it good in the UK for tobacco prices. I wish for the days of 20 pounds for 50g, they are long gone here in Australia. Government here charges 1900% on tobacco. That means we pay on average $150aud for 50g tin, which is about 77 pounds. It's ridiculous. What that's done is fuel the black market, which is causing the government all sorts of problems including billions in lost tax revenue. I now hear they plan on getting rid of flavoured/ aromatic tobacco, which are my go to. I had better start aquiring a taste for English blends i rekon.

G'day Richard and Julia! Pipe smoking is wonderful isn't it? All the flavours, the different pipes, the meditation. I like to ride my motorcycle (Honda Spada) to somewhere nice, by the beach or in the bush and sometimes even in a town park. Have you ever tried lunting?

Speaking of cheap pipes my two favourites only cost me £ 25 for both of them. ones a mr brog and the others a mini church warden unfortunately the mr brog has two massive cracks in it I'm gutted but i can't bring myself to bin it i look at it and reminisce about all the bowls of tobacco I've smoked out of it. Sad times 😢

60 years ago I was a pipe smoker. Neither of you are pipe smokers. Both of you spend more time re-lighting than smoking. You really need to keep it lit. You ruin the flavour of the tobacco. Light once and possibly another subsequently. One could have a long conversation down the pub in this way. Not surprised your lighter keeps requiring gas. Really it's about flavour. (Or lack of.)
