I talked to several people about this game and Amicia's journey, because this is a masterpiece in allegorical story telling, a true modern tragedy, a milestone in using a game engine as a story telling device, a milestone in creating a flawed and believable fictional protagonistic character and a milestone in creating a realtime rendered photorealistic CGI character that is absolutely believable as a human being when you see Amicia during the cutscenes. And every time I get a lump in my throat when I talk about Amicia, like she was a real person I knew. It just shows the power of story telling.

I felt similarly compelled to tell people in my family about it who don't understand video games lol. humans have drawn meaning and significance from storytelling since we've been conscious. however we live in a time where this relatively new technology allows for incredible immersive storytelling experiences unlike anything before, and some people are just not aware of it at all because they're too old for it or don't understand it. makes me a bit sad.

40:30 "It feels like the turned me into Amicia" ... I read an interview somewhere of the writer, and he said they wanted to make the player feel what Amicia is feeling at the end. There are some who say the game was pointless, since you don't save Hugo, but the purpose of the game was not to save Hugo, the purpose was to make a player empathize with Amicia so much, make her crawl under your skin, so that they build a real emotional connection and feel what she feels. And somehow feel what it means to take a life. Both "Innocence" and "Requiem" have the purpose to break down the disconnect between a player and the protagonist character of the game, so it becomes a real emotional experience. I love this, because it shows that games as a story telling medium can become more powerful than a book, a film or a series, since you are not a passive observer, but you really have to concentrate on the story, be interactive with the environment and the characters, and empathize with the character you control through the story. Just imagine what is possible in 5 to 10 years: Games that look like "The Lord of the Rings" movies, but you can actually take part in it, instead of just sitting in front of a screen and munch your popcorn.

Then the writers definitely succeed, because I 100% felt like Amicia, and sided with her character a lot. Then getting scolded by other characters, while then realizing "ok, maybe it wasn't so good". I was definitely put in a position where I could see myself doing the exact same as Amicia... Just do anything to save Hugo, even sacrificing others.

But it's not only due to the writer Sebastien Renard, but also because Robyn Wolf, who did the motion capture performance and is body and soul of Amicia, and Charlotte McBurney, who is the voice actress, gave their all to make Amicia real. Especially Charlotte, who literally channelled Amicia's emotions and her crying was not just acted, but real and even when the recording stopped she continued crying. Plus Olivier Ponsonnet, who created Amicia's character design and the CGI model, that projected Robyn's performance wonderfully - when you look at Amicia's eyes, you see Robyn embodying Amicia, and you see the soul of human being. Robyn, Charlotte, Sebastien and Olivier (and the animators) together literally loved Amicia into being, and enabled us to experience her as a real individual that touched us. And you are not alone, many reacted to this ending like you did. You can actually watch Charlotte McBurney play this scene on Anna Demetrious YT channel @annardemetriou and I would also suggest to look at Lisa Eli's playthrough on her channel @LisaEli, she is emotional like you during the ending. It is a shared experience.

They did a great job and that's what I was thinking the whole time. For the first game, you're given hope just like Amicia. In this game, things are looking worse, you see Amicia suffering and all the signs are there of what's going to happen. You, like Amicia, don't want to accept that and keep telling yourself you have to keep going. At the end of the game, you don't want to believe it and neither does Amicia. The game then forces you and Amicia to do the thing you didn't want to do. To accept it and to end it yourself

This is the first time I've teared up by watching some else's playthrough of a game 😭I was legitimately angry at the devs when the credits showed up immediately after slinging a rock at him lol. I'm glad there were more scenes after the credits. It's still sad of course but if the game really just ended like that with no more scenes it would've just been too brutal and even more depressing. It's a year now that I finished the game and I still get teary eyed when I think about it and Amicia. And it made me aware that Amicia is the first fictional character after a long time that I actually fell in love. Which happened a lot more in my youth, like with Roddy McDowall's Cornelius and Kim Hunter's Zira from the first "Planet Of The Apes", Marty McFly from "Back To The Future", Lisa Simpson, Jean-Luc Picard from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" or Remy and Colette from "Ratatouille". It is always very special when a fictional character is able to transcend its fictional world and is able to touch you like a real human being. And my mind reacts to thinking about Amicia like she was a real human being I knew and now is dead, and I mourn for her when I am reminded of her. In her case this is also due to the fact that everyone involved creating her (Robyn Wolf for the motion capture, Charlotte McBurney for her voice, Olivier Ponsonnet for her CGI model, Sébastien Renard as writer, and animators like Lise Sourlier) poured all their love into her creation and you experience the emotions from the artists that made her real when you observe Amicia and her story. I wonder how long it will take this time until it happens again to me. I hope not too long into the future, as I get older and my time begins to run out...

Damn, I cried with you all the way through, your reaction to this game has been a pure joy to watch! I loved that you started the first chapter again but for me it was to painful to see immediately after the ending💔 I cried and laughed during the hide and seek with Hugo and Lucas, it was an instant mix of emotions for me 😂😭. I get what you say when you said the game made you feel like Amicia at the end, gosh I'm not even a girl and I felt her pain as if it were my own, I mean to have to kill the one you've given everything to protect and love is just absolutely tragic. Amicia is so strong to be able to carry on with her life! I think I read somewhere that the reason why Amicia never grew her hair out long again was because it was to painful of a reminder of Hugo because he loved to put flowers in her hair, honestly I would have done the same thing if I were in her place. When Charlotte was talking about Amicia in the Podcast, she became emotional and teary eyed also, like we all do. And probably it is the reason why Amicia feels so real, because Charlotte was more than acting when she spoke her lines, she was actually channeling Amicia through herself, lending her voice and emotions to Amicia and let take her over, like a ghost of a real person from the past.

This game is really a masterpeace in the way it touches our feelings. I, a man, cried at the Hugo end, at the summit end, and everytime I watch the last chapter of a playthrough from someone else, who is also going through all this. That you didn't hide your feelings is big plus in my book, and it shows me I'm not the only one with such a reaction. By the way, in case you/someone would be interested, I recommend watching the playthroughs (or maybe just the ending, you decide) of Charlotte McBurney (voice actress of Amicia) and Anna Demetriou (voice actress of Sophia) -> Charlotte's playthrough was together with Anna, so I watched Anna's first (solo), then Charlottes (with Anna). Even though they spoke the characters, they ..... (redacted) That was very surprising for me, and shows how good this game is at creating such feelings in us.

@@SlashterpieceGaming To be honest, until the very end I really hoped there is another way to end this and help Hugo. But even Lucas didn't have some sort of cure. And: I couldn't believe, the devs really dared to make us do this. Kill the little brother, who Amicia loved so so much?! No happy end is a fierce design decision in my opinion, after all the situations we went through! But: exactly this design decision made the game even more special for me. The personal emotional involvment is incredible. Kudos to Asobo Studio! What a ride! I'm not sure if any other game will be able top this.

When she was told during the voice recording, she actually was pleading for a different ending, because she didn't think Amicia would do it and that Hugo should not die.

I’ve played them both myself multiple times, watched quite a few playthroughs, to the point I thought I was immune to the tears the ending once brought, but your reaction was so raw it took me right back to my first time seeing the ending and I got teary all over again! in a way death of hugo was good for the people and himself. The macula was painful for him and he would've died anyway so instead of dying in a bed beside her sister in pain and agony. This was far better for himself. Though it hurts us and amicia but he died as he wanted to be, on the thrown and a less painful way and he was happy the chances Amicia gave to him to see the world and enjoy himself if you see from a person who is locked down in a room cut off from the whole world and being a test subject to find a cure so that he could live longer (which didn't work). but also someone time travel and give that damn brat a shot of antibiotics

“Rise Rey Skywalker”. Hugo became Yoda and Amicia became Rey🤷 To think he’s only 5🤦‍♂️ can’t believe little o Hugo turned into Bran Stark. He’s practically the 3 eyed raven in this game. The game’s story just becomes more absurd with each offering and there’s me calling bullshit when Hugo went on a one man rescue mission and freed his mother from a fortress prison in the first game. 39:00 Since the post credits scene plays in our times, in a modern hospital, and there is a third game, I would love to see a story where Amicia in the 14th century and one of her ancestors in our time work together to defeat the Macula - maybe by having it exist in the fourth dimension from which it connects with our dimension every 700 years or so at the same time and through that Amicia and her ancestor can establish a connection, and you play both characters. It could show places in France both in the 14th century and today and both characters are at the same spot (like an existing church in the 14th century and a ruin of it in our times). This would incorporate your time travel idea.

Imagine if after all you went through in Telltales’s first season of the walking dead Clementine died at the end, well that’s pretty much what they did in this game🤷 And people paid 70 bucks for the experience. Look, this game is one of the best games ever made for this gen. yet. The graphics was a step up from the previous one, the story went more exciting and it was fantastic, the gameplay adds more elements to make it more fun, the sound tracks are top notch. When I stated playing that game, I just feel like I am in a pretty cool mood & its waaaay better than hanhing out with a friend or something. Only a few titles did give me that mood and this game is one of them.

I never really cared for Games so much that i would go ahead and buy one. But after getting the first Game for free and trying it out an a day of boredom, i was so excited to hear that a second one was in the making. I waited for a discount action and immediatelay played it trough! I live that its really dark, but even then gives us some happy and cheerful moments. I loved the story, the music, the visuals - and most of all the characters! The group they formed in the first game with the siblings and the smith son felt so wholesome and precious, i was heartbroken when arthur died, which marked the beginning of an even sadder atmosphere than before 😭 My favourite Character was, without a doubt, Lucas! He was so well written! We met him early on and he was always a support to both amicia and hugo. He tried to uphold morals in a world where there was no Moral to be found in most of the people they met. I really hate how in the other ending where Lucas kills Hugo, it seems like Amicia cant face him. She of all people should know how hard it would have been for him. He was the one telling her all the time not to kill anyone, and in the end he had to do it to spare her from having to kill her brother. Now thats true companionship! I love you lucas and i will wait with hope that a thord game might be made sometime in the future 😢 (some reincarnatiom story where their past ties into the new storyline and would give us a chance to revisit all the Characters we love would be AWESOME!

Totally agree, Lucas is the pillar in this game. Without him, Amicia would have lost hope loooong ago, and she would have probably been dead too. The boy needs an award 🥹 he's an absolute gem

The Scene after when they get captured after Amicia makes a ruckus, Lucas blaming her for it: "I dont know whats happening to me Lucas. I can feel my mind going." And Lucas trying to give her some comfort. SUCH good writing!

@@SlashterpieceGaming ... that's also why I chose to not let her kill Hugo at the end but have Lucas take that burden from her. I did not want to be the one forcing her to feel that guilt. Even if that meant she and Lucas would break up: I believe she would forgive him after a while and they would get together again. Amicia is a strong person and she would understand with age, forgive and understand he did her a favor.

This is the most depressing game I've played. The first half reminded me more of the first game but the 2nd half I had to struggle to continue playing. I liked the first game more because of the pacing and puzzles and it was kind of more innovative in a way and less serious. Requiem is a well done game. But I haven't been this depressed in ages. It is a video game and I'm very empathic person so I related to the characters and really got into the story. However, can I like a game a lot if it gives me a lot of pain? I play horror games too but it's never been like this. I have to work tomorrow. Maybe it will ease later. I dunno, maybe there should have been a warning this game is not recommended for the faint hearted. Games give people emotions and these sure are worth something but is there a limit what can be done? Like, I felt really indifferent and empty while playing at the last chapter.

I feel you!!! Because I felt the same way 😭 sure, games have made me cry several times... But NOTHING beats the heartbrake and pain from playing Requiem. Especially when you get your hopes up, and it just gets shattered into millions and billions of pieces... To this day, I still think about it 🥲 I just want the next game to be a time traveling game where you can change the ending.

It's been over a year since I played this incredible game and it still hurts. Everytime I remember this ending I almost feel tears coming. When I finished the game, it broke me for real, for several days I kept crying randomly thinking about it. It never happened to me before with anything else. Today I keep watching playthrough from time to time to remember and see how other people react to it. And everytime I get to this part, the tears come back. This game is a true masterpiece and deserves to be remembered. I remember. ❤

Go watch the Estonian Philarmonic Choir singing "A Plague Tale Requiem" live! Their voices are so raw and pure that they give chills!. That scene when Amicia and Lucas are walking towards Hugo, that's the game's main theme. Look for "A Plague Tale Requiem Symphony", they didn't sing all 32 songs, just the main ones and those we hear throughout the game, specially the one playing when Amicia is fighting the giant human rat-shaped enemies.
