Thanks for the video, I have always enjoyed all of them. I carry a Case Exchange, It has the Drop Point Blade, Clip Point Blade, Flexible Filet Blade and a very good Saw Blade. It also locks the blades. Made in USA and Case XX. It is easy to change out the blades. It is also a very good looking knife to boot.

Man, as much as I too prefer American or German made pocket knives, those Marbles and Rough Ryders (they’re made in the same factory in china) are just worth it when it comes to value for your money. My only complaint with marbles is they don’t use carbon steel, unlike rough Ryders which do have a few series in their T10 carbon steel (Chinese 1095 basically) I have the cattleman’s whittler in this series, it’s the same knife almost, just smaller and not serpentine style. Was considering getting this 3 blade monster, and after seeing my bushcraft hero Blackie using it, I’m convinced I “need” one. Lol I started watching Blackie during the pandemic, he got me into bushcraft and reminded me how much I loved the tradition knife patterns, mainly 3 blade stockmans and 2 bladed trappers. I don’t even hunt, but those knives are invaluable out in the field or at home doing chores.

I figured out why I enjoy listening to you more than any other bushcraft channel. For one, you like slipjoints...I've always been taught you dont need a lock on a pocket knife. If you use it properly. I was given several US Old Timers by my granddaddy and they still ride in my pocket. Mainly the 80ot. For two, YOU'RE FROM ALABAMA. Good discussion. I have several knives and I use them all at various times. I usually select them for what the task at hand is, but also to a large degree, for what makes me happy. Started with a Barlow at 6 in Ohio. Moved to Florida at 12 and upgraded to a Case 2 blade Trapper. Have used a bunch of different styles since then but I find I still carry a 3 blade Buck Stockman or my Old Timer 1940T single clip blade regardless of what else I’m packing. I really like your 3 blade arrangement. I will have to find one and give it a try. Great vid by the way.

It's funny that you made this video just now. They only "small" knives that I have been carrying for the last 15 years have been lock-blade, pocket clip "tactical" knives. Last week while doing some leather work I dug out an old Schrade Old Timer stockman to cut leather. I had forgotten how handy a true "pocket" knife is. Have ben carrying it ever since. The sheeps foot blade cuts like an exacto knife. The spey blade is kept super sharp and reserved for special cutting and the main blade is for every day chores. good video, thanks

Like you, I like this three bladed Trapper combo for processing game & fish. The main issue becomes the 440A stainless which is a much maligned blade metal due to its low carbon content as opposed to 440C and the other higher grade knife steels. It has been my experience that sharpening the 440A blade before each use gives you great service and I expect to sharpen this knife more often. I have found the best way to put a near razor edge on 440A is to use a diamond stone and then strop it with your belt. Strop it again as you feel it lose it's edge during use. This is not an heirloom knife. If you use it ten years and wear it out, throw it away and buy a new one for $20! Marbles knives and axes are not high dollar fit & finish tools to impress your friends. They are affordable tools to be used hard and sharpened often. I give this 3 blade 440A Trapper two thumbs up as I do their axes and hatchets for doing the jobs they are designed for at a fantastic price point! I agree this knife is a specialized tool for processing fish & game. The spey blade is a dedicated skinning blade. The clip point becomes my dedicated boning and slicing blade. And, like you, use the "skinning" blade as a fillet blade and you have what you want, one dedicated game processing tool. Clean and sanitize it in boiling water after each use. Dry it thoroughly and apply a food grade oil like olive oil and it will serve you well for years. Use your Mora as your kitchen/table knife for slicing veggies and cutting COOKED meats. IMHO! Great video!

Good video Blackie. I like the idea of the one knife for all game processing. Sure you could use another knife you've got with you but that little knife isn't gonna take up much room, and hopefully will make those certain jobs that much easier since they're to be maintained with that job in mind. Interesting 3 blade trapper. I generally just use whatever pocket knife I have in my pocket for skinning small game, like squirrels and rabbits. I favor my old Sabre fishing knife for skinning deer, though I do use a Buck 110, a Schrade Golden Bear, and a Sharp M300.

Blackie... I am a firm believer in carrying a pocket knife. Multiple blades = more specialized uses. I always carry 3 knives, one of which is a pocket knife. As for fillet knives, It is truly amazing what you can accomplish with a fillet blade. I gutted and skinned my moose this last season with one that had a four inch blade. It worked excellent. A sharp Rapala filet knife will process small game and will filet fish with good precision and slide down around those rib bones with ease. It will also cut through rib bones if that's the way you want to do it and you will not lose much meat either. It just depends on your preference. The skill of the user and the sharpness of the blade are the critical factors.

Nice looking knife. I used a three blade stockman to clean countless fish, rabbit, and birds over several years. The fixed blade of course is easier to clean up, but more often the stockman was just more handy or easier to pocket on a quick outing. Look fwd to the usage vids.

the buck 110 was the common knife of my era of highschool boys..all of us carried one in our back pocket and wore holes in the pants for it..it was our go to knife for field dressing game..cleaning fish..whittling..cutting the broken fan belt loose from the truck frame ect..its big and bulky by todays standards..but i still have a warm place in my heart for it

Nice lookin' knife. You can glue a match stick or small piece of leather in the handle if the blade is touching metal when it closes. Had to do it to several of my inexpensive folders...works good.

I like that idea, I carry a Rough Rider razor trapper that I keep razor sharp. Quick tip; a razor hone works great for putting a very keen edge on a knife.

Any multitool is usually okay at a few things but never real good at one thing. But in this case I think the Marbles knife fits your need of occasional game and fish prep and I know you like these traditional style knives so just keep it as is... no need for a higher quality steel for the activities you described. I like these traditional slip joint knives also but my choice would be a lighter single blade that could do it all such as the 3oz Bucklite Max folder which comes in 3 sizes (I like large). Now, if I was doing a lot of any one task such as cleaning 20 fish I would use the proper blade for the job. Good luck!

Good looking knife. I like to carry multiple knives on me. As far as Marbles being made in China, they have the same quality as Rough Rider, John Primble and others. Take care of them and use them for what they were meant for and they will last a long time.

I know this is an old thread, but I just found it. I like this Marbles knife concept. I have carried either a medium or regular Old Timer carbon steel, USA made Stockman for years and clean quite a bit of game with it. I recently picked up a Rough Rider Medium Stockman for fishing/field work. Now when I know I'm going fishing, I carry my Mora and a 6" Rapala fillet knife lives on the strap of my soft fishing tackle box. But this looks like a nice idea for my larger emergency/impromptu fishing kit that lives in my day bag. BTW, when I was growing up, we about lived on the river and I had one uncle that cleaned all small game, fish, and even big snapping turtles with a small Old Timer USA made, carbon steel, Stockman.

This is a deep subject to follow about- I am not a fan of the one knife for all. Can it be done ? Heck yeah it can, and it was for many years. I am in a mind set of 1 fixed blade knife will fill my "oh shit I am lost." Do I only carry 1 knife- No!!! But the knife of my choice for over 15 years now. The sod buster Jr by case. The belly will open any game up I need. But to the point of the 3 blade knife. Sweet blade for filleting. If I am out walking around the woods and get lost and spend a few days wandering around. I catch a fish! I am not filleting it. Heck my big butt will probably eat it raw after 2 days. I guess what I am saying and shorten it. If I plan to fish I have a proper fillet knife. If I am going hunting .I will have a knife designed for for skinning and gutting. The faster this happen the better my chances of of preserving my harvest. If I am going on a trip. I have the correct tool for the planned Task. If Oh Shit happens and I am lost. I am not looking for pretty. I am looking into what skills I have obtained to survive the ordeal. As In My Motto "learn to survive without it before you Buy it" Now for the fun part . I like the knife design and functions it has. Do I think you need this knife to do it all? Say Heah Blackie, I've enjoyed this video before too, yeah, if that's what you do with it. I still use my pocket knives for working wood. If I need to clean game whether mammal or fish, I bring along the right tool for the right job. I have nice hunting knives that will skin game and I have filet knives. If I'm in a survival situation. I can use my belt knife even if I have my Potbelly with me. I bet I can even clean squirrel with it or porcupine, or possum if I had to survive. I know I could clean a bluegill too. But I do understand what your video intention was show casing that 3 blade Trapper. I saw Lars Munson cross Canada using a knife I have it's the Stromeng KS 9, a 9" blade and he used it for everything. But I think that 3blade Trapper is a great idea.

This video is a few years old by now. How has this concept worked out for you? I have done very little skinning, but I have used a fixed blade because it is easier to clean. Do you have a way to clean folding knives in the field so that it doesn't get loaded up with blood, hair, guts etc? I would think this would be of paramount importance if you were going to also use that same knife for preparing cooked food.

For small game, birds, rabbits etc I prefer a Case slimline trapper for field dressing. A standard trapper if you want the fur. I think you can filet with any of those blades as long as they are sharp.

Defiitely not the $20 knife! I bought a Queen Cutlery trapperin D2 tool steel for $55 on eBay. Not bad considering they sell for $75+ You havemuch practical experience. Keep the videos coming.

Processed a lot of game big and small with my dual blade large marble trapper, big buck stockman and trapper and my Boker scout knife. Typically these are supplements to my. Buck 119 and 110.

I know this is an older video, but I've never heard of this knife, and would love to try it. I always carry a Case Trapper, as well as a Stockman. I don't think there is a better whittling knife than a Stockman. But I've wished for a Trapper with a third blade, and maybe this one is it. The trouble with Chinese 440 steel is that you never know what you're getting. China, like several countries, does not have the same steel designation or formulas that we do, and when they stamp 440 on a blade, it's really their own steel that's as close to 440 as possible, but that does not use the exact formula. Some Chinese 440 has added vanadium, a bit of chromium, and some additional carbon. This steel is excellent, just as good as 440c because it's nearly identical. Other Chinese 440 is just their approximation of our 440a, though often a little better. Trouble is, both will be marked the same way. Just 440 stainless. Unless you know the company, and who the company has make the knives, the only way to know which you're getting is by testing them. Even when a Chinese made knife is marked 440c, it almost always has 10% less carbon than our lowest grade of 440c. But some of their 440 steel is very, very good. My dirty little secret is that I have several very expensive Stickman knives, but despite this, I seem to reach for a Chinese made Stockman every time I need to do some important piece of whittling. The thing takes a razor edge, and holds it for a long, long time, so I just keep using it.

I carry 4 pocket knives. A case trapper, and stockman for skinin and cleanin. A camilus camp style with 3 blades, for whittling, and workin. And a swiss army knife 4 million tool . These are all, for very specific functions in the field. I also carry a leatherman tool. Seems like alot, but they are necesary. No one knife do it all. I also carry a good straight blade. A good knife, is worth the money.

Say Heah Blackie, a while back, at the pawn shop I got a beauty, no one knew what it was and I got it for a good price. I paid around $10.00 for it. It's a Wilkinson Sword INOX Slipjoint Pocket Knife it's a 3blade Stockman but on a Canoe Pattern, or a 3blade Canoe. It's a beauty, but I can't find any info on it, Oh, it's made in Sheffield, England too. I also bought a couple of Rough Riders, I got the same blades that are on a trapper, but in a Moose Pattern, Both blades are opposite of each other. But I love Small Mouth Bass, But a Large Mouth, don't you think their too fish in tasting, yuk. ,, ,,

I think you're right about the Marbles and the Rough Rider being made in the same place, in fact I think most of the Chinese made pocket knives are made in the same place and some company just orders a batch in a certain configuration and have their brand put on them, that's why I don't pay much attention to the brand on them. Rough Rider seem to stick to Chinese made knives where Marbles and others mix crappy Pakistan made knives in with their line. I don't think I like the idea of a 3 bladed pocket knife, hell I'm not sure I like 2. Why not have the fillet blade and the spey blade and get rid of the clip point? I'm glad you mentioned Mora because I've been thinking about getting one to check out, I've always disregarded it as a low quality because of the price but I've heard otherwise.

I think a lot of people hear or see "Made in China" and automatically think it is crap. A lot of that is due to crappy products coming from over there, but what they also don't realize is that good value products can also come from there and there are US companies guilty of releasing crap. It depends on the parent company's quality control in either case. A LOT of popular high value knives from Kershaw and Spyderco are made in China. The same factories also release high value, good quality folders under their own names as well (Sanrenmu and Enlan are two I believe). Of course they aren't the same as an expensive, high dollar knife, but then they aren't expensive high dollar knives either. lol They also aren't $5 folders that fall apart when you look at them crosseyed. So yeah, as long as I'm not looking at something I bought saying "I paid that much for this?!?!" and feeling ripped off, I'm happy regardless of where it was made be it a $13-$20 pocket knife to a $200+ hand forged Japanese kitchen knife. lol

I think you will be surprised with what all you CAN do with a pocket knife. My dad carried a Schrade stockman and did everything with that knife from cleaning fish all the way up to field dressing deer. It's kind of like the old saying, beware of the man that only owns one gun. Because I guarantee he knows how to use it.

I'd stick with the Mora and a typical commercial filet knife. A good handle and easy to clean.

I carry a case stockman 6347.....I use a case trapper to skin deer and a old hickory boning knife to cut deer...I like case and german steel knifes

The three blade dedicated game processing knife fits my use perfect. As you say I have a dedicated scandi LT Wright bushcraft knife that eats wood like a beaver and is actually a terrible game processor. My neck knife is a Lile backpacker model that is a great slicer and perfect for general food prep but a poor design for skinning and filleting fish. My new Marbles is a dedicated knife that will be used for small game / fish and the fact that it costs less than $20.00 and is a nice looking knife makes me a happy camper. Thanks for the video and great knife find!

My thinking is never put all your egs in one basket. I kind of dislike the whole "only one knife for everything" concept for that reason. If you're away from what passes for civilization and that breaks or gets displaced from you, you still have a tool. Further, specialized blades will be more efficient at their given tasks than a single blade can be. You can get by with the one knife, but, having a couple of extras for specific tasks will make your life easier. At least that's how I look at it.

I've known Blackie for years...I seriously doubt he will ever be with just one knife, so you needn't worry about him getting stuck if that particular knife gets broken or lost. ;)

I don't believe you can use just one knife for every chore. It's like saying you only need a hammer to build furniture. Depending on the environment you can do pretty well with a pocket knife, a Mora and a large knife or machete. I've known people that manage to everything they need with a single knife, but they are constantly working with their knives, so their expertise allows them to use a single knife, generally foot-long butcher knives.

People drastically underestimate the steel used in Rough Rider and Marbles knives. They say it's 440a, and junk. They would be surprised to learn how many knives, tip end knives, made n America use 440a steel. But the reason these knives are stamped 440 stainless, and with no letter designation, is because the really aren't 440a. China has its own designations for steel, and its own formulas. When a company asks for 440a in their made in hina knives, what they really get is the Chinese equivalent of western 440a. It's better than our 440a. It really doesn't match up with any of our 440 steels, but all the factors, spectroscopic analysis, Rockwell, knowledge of how the heat treat and temper, puts this steel down as a kind of blend steel with properties of 440a, 440b, and 440c, ....but not really. It's steel with a designation all it's own, and it's pretty good stuff. The only thing I'd like better would than the kind of proprietary 440a steel that Case uses. I'm not a fan of the so-called "Super" steels. The are all wonderful steel, but not for knives. The very things that people who love them rave about, primarily high Rockwell and high abrasion resistance, make them a pain in the rear when used as knife steel. Most of them are absolutely wonderful when used for other things, but not when used for knives. For a working knife, no one has come up with any high carbon steel better than 1095CV, and a high grade 440c stainless. But no matter how much steel snobs sneer, Chinese 440 stainless is very good knife steel. It's better than anyone needs in a pocketknife. And like I said, a lot of high end American knives use regular 440a, which is not as good as the Chinese version.

Well, sometimes you get less than you pay for, and sometimes you get more. I made the mistake of buying a two hundred and twenty dollar knife, only to learn the steel in it was standard 420, rather than 420HC. A bevel angle of fifteen degrees per side is the traditional angle for a pocketknife. This is right at the top of the shaving range, more than good enough for skinning furbearing animals. To me, a large Stockman is the best possible small game knife. It has the clip point and the spey blade, but also has a sheepsfoot, and this makes it one of the best carving knives ever made. It's better than a Mora, better than any knife with a single blade, and professional woodcarvers all over the place use it. I carry a Case XX CV Amber Bone Jumbo Stockmen. These things are down to fifty-five dollars from a high of eighty-five, which leads me to believe they're going to be discontinued. Rumor has it that Case is going to discontinue all the old CV knives in favor of the more modern steels they're now using, so I'm guessing the discontinue rumor is also true. I own this knife in high carbon, I have a Utica Trapper and Stockman in high carbon, and I have a Boker Tree brand Stockman in high carbon, but I wouldn't own any of these if Rough Rider or Marbles made high carbon pocketknives.

Good video...Sad Marbles was once made in the USA (for decades and was revered by sportsmen for decades...but now made in china😩). However...Alabama has more water than anywhere? Michigan (home of the original Marbles Co.) has more miles of coastline than the entire east coast of the U.S. on top of over 11,000 inland lakes, thousands of rivers and streams...never more than 6 miles from a waterway or 85 miles from one of 4 Great Lakes....don’t know where you find Alabama having more😏
