Craiutu is listing off a bunch of things that are neither unique to Liberalism (e.g. individual responsibility, freedom of thought) nor originate with it, some vague abstractions like "social justice" "dignity," and some ideals that are in conflict with one another (equality vs private property/economic freedom). His definition of Liberalism is almost so vague as to be unwieldy. It's also just not true (as he claims) that critics of Liberalism don't offer any alternatives. I can't imagine how he would come to that conclusion. Hundreds of years of Conservative philosophy, for one. We can point to all sorts of tried and tested things that have worked well in the past. We could implement them, though it would be somewhat illiberal to do so. Also it seems rather telling that his golden age of Liberalism (1945-1989) was in many ways a far _less_ Liberal and more Conservative time than 1990 to present. Finally it seems like he is painting a picture of a choice between only either this vague, constantly shifting thing called Liberalism, or Hitler & Stalin. As though there is (or has been) nothing else.

At 23 min 50 sec Deneen off-handedly repeats the half-truth that social security in the U.S. will soon be insolvent. And this guy is presumed a great thinker?

As far as I'm concerned. As a veteran, and don't take my word for this because I heard this secondhand which sent me into a fright. That he would take away veterans benefits as well as social security. So I guess it's not so crazy since I'm hearing it from others.

I don't see it happening though. I see him being impeached for that considering it's a socialist left leaning program
