I've had this model for the past six months and its been working great! No issues whatsoever. The wattage and insulation is so efficient that my Bluetti power bank sometimes shuts off after a few hours when the power draw is minimal. I've learned that taking my Bluetti out of Economode usually fixes the issue or at least prolongs the unit from automatically turning off.

Now that's a really inexpensive refrigerator! 190 watts in 24 hour period (at 70F ambient) is pretty good too. Nice and thorough review! I wish someone would review Sun Frost refrigerator. These are about the most efficient ones on the market. A 12 cubic foot model, the R-12, uses 290 watts in 24 hours at 70F ambient and 470 watts in 24 hours at 90F ambient and that is with refrigerator and freezer compartments running!. They aren't cheap (abut $2600 for this model) and not portable, but they do run on either 12 VDC, 48 VDC or standard 120 AC. I don't think i have ever seen a review for these although they have been available for over 20 years. You may also be interested that the D40 (for the AC200L) is now available ($199) and the D120 (for the AC240 to raise the PV input voltage up to 120 volts) will be available in July.

Thank you Jason, I watched your earlier videos where you compared different brands and bought one using the discount code back then. During camping trips and powered outages, I use the smaller fridge to store medications and prepared baby formula. A second much larger unit is used in our outings to store meats and other spoilable food. I use a bare battery or a Delta 2 Max to keep things powered and panels to recharge the batteries when needed. Actually I also use the TimeUSB battery socket outlet you demoed a while back. Thanks for your videos

Type 1 Diabetic HVAC Engineer who goes camping in Australian summers: -See where the temperature data logger was shown in the video.. thats where you want to keep your insulin. Do not keep it against the wall of a portable fridge that's where the evaporator coils are and it gets very cold and can much more easily freeze your insulin than your house fridge (most of our modern day fridges have an internal fan over the evaporator coil this means there are less extreme Delta Ts on items in a normal fridge) -Do get professional advise on these such ideas -Always have a few ways of measuring the temperature and have back-ups (maybe an insulated bag etc..) best is a good quality old fashion temp gauge. -If its a long trip (weeks - months) then get a good quality fridge.

Looks like a great deal. I know this might seem strange, but I have used 12v freezers like this to make ice blocks and then put the ice blocks into regular coolers to keep food safe in a power outage. This way I can spread out the "cool" into a few different coolers.

@@Jasonoid If I remember correctly it took a few hours, but I use the Chinese Takeout plastic soup cups. They melt faster, but also freeze faster. Once you get it going it's easy to stay ahead of the melt and had 3 coolers no problem.

@@NatureZone101 : Heh heh... I use a few 2 quart Tupperware knockoffs from WallyWorld! 😄 And I have the smaller version of this unit - 16q vs 20. Got it direct on their late summer sale last year ~$107 IIRC. Eta: Forgot to mention... the fan on mine is eerily quiet and even better, a pleasing tone. We've all heard some equipment or other with an annoying fan. Best surprise when I first fired mine up!

good 👍👍👍 @TravelDuster remember if outside is 50°C freezer will not reach -20°C more hot outside more difficult, but no problem at all maintain 2°C-8°C for inmunosupresors if needed as me, still have to say yes to doctor, have not tried yet with my medicines. need good battery and good solar panel, fridge cannot stop and last thing, remember it has a compresor that generates some hot wich i have to evaluate inside car where i sleep. Have a wonderful day. Now i will see video after the 3 ads youtube proposed me 😁

Hi Jason. Have you ever experimented with those fitted fridge covers that are supposed to help insulate your fridge?
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid Ай бұрын
Those covers mostly protect against scratches and other physical damage. I'm not guessing they do much for insulating, especially if they are black and in the sun (absorbing heat).

I see the claim "12v/24v" operation. Is there a switch to select voltage or does it "just work" ? I'm wondering, because if it can operate "from 12v to 24v vehicle power" then it will likely work on an 18v(20v) power tool battery. That would be handy... But if it requires switching, it might work on the 24v setting, but likely won't, especially if it has a low voltage detection that will turn it off while the 18v/20v battery is still nearly fully charged.
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 2 ай бұрын
It's designed for 12v and 24v lead acid batteries. The voltage range is pretty specific due to the "low voltage battery protection". 12V voltage protection with the low setting is 9.6 volts 24V voltage protection with the low setting is 21.3 volts Tool batteries would have to be above those settings to work properly so it's kinda a weird spot with alternate power options. You can see what I mean if you go to their website and download the user manual for each fridge. It shows the voltage range for 12v and 24v: setpowerusa.com/collections/fc-series/products/fc20-12volt-portable-refrigerator

how long does that battery last with the fridge? thanks!
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 2 ай бұрын
The 50ah LFP battery has 640wh of capacity. Calculating the runtime is based on ambient temperature and the fridge set-point. Take the battery and divide it by the wattage and it will give you a runtime, see 3:33 in the video.

Hello Jason, great video. You mentioned a couple of things that many have not mentioned or are aware of. For example, you mentioned the great disparity of as much as 10º difference between temperatures and the display and another thing on this type of chest drawer freezer the cold air travels down. It is important to know that when opening the lid that one should do it slowly so as not to create a suction effect and draw the cold air up and out of the fridge. I own the RV45ss and was disappointed that there was a 12ºF disparity from the display and the actual temperature. It wasn't until a few months later that I found out you can calibrate the display to closely get close to the actual inside temperature of the fridge to within a couple of degrees or less. It was confusing for me and was wondering that this could be a great video for you to do since you have a way of making things that are complicated very simple for folks like myself. As always I love your videos.

This FC20 model has been super accurate on the temps, but yes others I have tested in the past have been more off. I am still confused about the calibration process that's available on these Setpower and ICECO fridges. When messing with the settings I would literally change a number in the settings and waited to see what would happen. There is no official documentation available and the only info I could find was hidden deep on online forums. Quite frustrating.
