Quick question. I am looking at a budget fridge and I love the review of this unit (and your discount code :) ), however the video with your father in law has me intrigued with the alpicool. I will use this mostly for boondocking with my family of 5. Any thoughts on these two units head to head. Price was would still lean to the Setpower, but alpicool will give a bit more size. I didn’t see any docs with both these included. (Your doc on power station comparisons is invaluable) Any thoughts would be very helpful. Thanks!
@Jasonoid2 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick, thanks for reaching out about your question. Both fridges would probably work well for your needs. It mostly comes down to the size of fridge you will need and how long your trips are. With my family of 5 (parents and 3 young kids) we need a 60qt fridge for a 4 day trip and anything longer and we start needing more spacel. A 45qt fridge will work well for a 2 to 3 day trip for a family of 5. I'd probably buy the most fridge that you can afford. Setpower does have a brand new 60Qt model coming out soon, you might be intrigued by that model. You can see the details here: www.setpowerusa.com/products/rv45d-pro

Nice review. Do you think as a trucker using one of these fridges full time that it's a better idea to go with a unit with a more proven compressor? Been considering the Iceco JP50 after your review of it.
@Jasonoid3 жыл бұрын
I haven't tested this compressor for a long enough time to know if it will last up to 24 hour use, 365 days a year. I think if you are planning to run the fridge all day everyday it might be best to go with a model with a Secop compressor (VL45, VL60Pro and other options....)

Yes, it works just fine as a freezer. Just plan on using about double the wattage since the compressor will need to run more for those temps.

I am selling my Jeep along with my ICECO JP42 fridge, so I need to buy another one. I was planning on grabbing a VL45, but I just watched your comparison with the Setpower and now this review. Besides the built in inverter (and compressor) on the ICECO, the two fridges look almost the same, which one would you recommend? (especially with the price difference) I usually spend about 30 nights out on the trails a summer, so it will be getting a lot of hard use. Thank you for your thoughts.

With that much use I'd recommend the Secop compressor, guaranteed performance and reliability!

I have had one for just over 7 months. We have used it on several camping trips. I do like the fridge but the 12 volt power plug is terrible! It constantly gets lose and shuts down. Some times it gives a low voltage error code but others it just shuts down. I have had this problem with 4 different 12 volt sockets so it has to be the plug. I am looking into replacing the 12 power plug with another plug.

I got rid of my cig plug and crimped on some Anderson power pole connections. You can also go with SAE so you don't have to deal with the cig plug. What are you using to power your fridge?

Some obvious differences between this and the ICECO: The gasket on the lid is much thinner in width compared to the ICECO, the compressor is not a DANFOSS as is on the ICECO. Please compare the internal temperatures with the LED readout which is very important (as I've come to learn on my ICECO). I would suggest investing in a decent infrared 'gun' in order to get internal temperatures in different locations inside the fridge. One more comment, ICECO has the WORST customer service of any company I've ever dealt with, having spent the last two weeks trying to get them to resolve two notable issues with my VL45.
@Jasonoid3 жыл бұрын
I do have an infrared gun, thanks for the tip of including that in my videos, I'll try to integrate that in some future videos. Also... Measuring the food inside the fridge, like an actual beverage can, would give a more accurate measurement than shooting an infared gun at the walls and floor because they are in contact with the cooling coils and don't reflect 'real' temps inside the fridge.
@MrWinger19513 жыл бұрын
@@Jasonoid Yes, thats correct and thats exactly what I do also, I measure the temp the food and beverages, and I also have a specific refrigerator temperature monitor that I leave in the main compartment.

Exactly, who puts a fridge in a closet with a heater going for 24 hours? Jasonoid does, that's who. So it's a carbon copy of the Iceco. Look forward to the comparison with the Iceco as they seem to be carbon copies, other than cost and warranty. How about the connection between the DC plug and socket? I've seen people complain about the DC plug loosening while driving only to find out later their food had spoiled.
@Jasonoid3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Larry LOL....the DC plug seemed to be attached pretty well. I wouldn't expect any issues with it. This fridge is very similar to the ICECO VL45 but does have some differences.

@Jasonoid3 жыл бұрын
This fridge is an excellent budget offering. It is very efficient and I have like it so far. It depends how often you are going to be using the fridge. Are you planning to run it all the time or just a few times a month, or just a few times a year? If you plan to run your fridge 24/7, I'd say get something built for that, usually something with a secop compressor. If you only plan to use it on and off a few times a year camping, you can get a long life out of this fridge!

@Jasonoid2 жыл бұрын
You can get smaller run times, usually 4 to 8 hours off a smaller power station. It all depends on how hot it is and what you have the fridge temp set to. If you already have a small power station, it's perfectly fine to test it out and see how long it will run on it.
