A POWERFUL tank with a FLAME THROWER - TO-55 in War Thunder

The TO-55 in War Thunder is a Premium Medium Tank that has a FLAME THROWER! That's right, a high tier Flame Tank that actually has some trouble getting frags with it!
The TO-55 is at 8.0 which is the lowest BR T-55 in the game. As such this vehicle does not get access to the APFSDS round. That's not a problem, though. The best shell is the APHE and we all know it! :)
The 100mm is stabilized and is more than enough to deal with most opponents that are thrown at you. The TO-55 party piece is of course the flame thrower. It works on open top SPAA like the M42 and ZSU-57-2 but fails to roast things like the M113 TOW, the M163 and other things like the UDES 33. Disappointing but hopefully this is fixed to give it some viability.
What it is REALLY good at doing is blinding enemies with thick black smoke and fire! It's also just really cool to watch.

Or even engine damage. Engines need oxygen to keep running, and if the tank is being doused by a flamethrower, it's reasonable to assume it's not going to be sucking up any nice oxygen, it's going to be sucking up flame and CO2, so the engine is gonna die. Why not allow flamethrowers to damage engines? I could see a niche use for flamethrowers if they could actually damage engines. Flamethrowers don't need to be "meta" or whatever, they're gimmicks, but they should at least serve SOME purpose when you're not shooting at the designated "can be killed by flamethrowers" vehicles

Enlisted and War Thunder teams must not be on speaking terms or something. Flame affecting tanks was one of the first things they added, after everyone yelled at them about molotovs and flamethrowers not doing much. Hit the front of the tank, their visibility is gone, flame the engine compartment long enough, the engine is going to die/the tank will go on fire. Open tops get melted, same with tank commanders sticking out the top hatch

I like the apfsds on the T-55A, but i don't see this as a T-55A with a missing adfsds. Given there are T-54s as that same br, i'd rather look at it as a T-54 with a stabilizer and no br penalty, and that's insane

They need to add optics damage for flames. Depending on how damaged they are, your accuracy goes down. This would make flamethrowers actually have a place in game.

Would love to set gaijin expand upon fire, maybe if a fire it hot enough it could soften the steel and give it less thickness value for a few seconds, or perhaps it could affect tracks and make it harder to move, or stuff like napalm bbs could burn curtain terrain making you go slower on it

Flamethrower is so situational they could stand to buff it a bit, make it damage engines and/or obscure vision. In Sim it could damage crew if the compartment had been breached by a round

First match I played I got 11 kills and even got one with the flamethrower. So far the only problems I have with it are turret traverse and the shell velocity of the AP round

Odd, you should play the 103-C. On a map like Maginot Line and (other open hilly one that's slipping me at the moment), that tank is lethal on its own. 4 second autoloader. Laser rangefinder. And abysmal slope at distances greater than 2km, you're virtually invincible. "Hard to aim." Nah... skill issue. 😎

War Thunder gamers in the chat, I've been playing for like 2-3 weeks now and started GB tree (I've learned that was a bad call) I've just opened up Challenger/Comet to go for, what's worth? Brit 5.3 seems kinda pain and from what I can see the Comet used to be insane but the APDS shell got ruined when it got taken down from 5.7 and now it's kinda ass? Do I just live in 4.7 for the forseeable future or do I start spading Chally/Comet? Loving the Avenger and Concept 3 atm, Firefly is fun but slooooow.

British main here, I am at 7.0 in theory but still play 4.7.. it's just the one BR where Britain doesn't 100% suck, try and grind to about 7.3 then you can have fun again (but do try out the other BRs, just don't expect to have fun/do well)

i like the 8.0/10.0 brits the challengers and last chieftain that you can get i believe at 8.7 is really fun, i take it out in my 10.3 matches, strikes works pretty good too, its not great but its not bad, the atgm bug is fixed, warrior is ehh, AA is okay, not great not bad, brit is definetly not top, but its definetly not bottom either, i'd call it a good like 6th, russia, usa, germany, china, sweden, brit@@axolotlIl why china well they get russian vehicles, why sweden well they get better leopards thn german

Playing a mix of different tech trees can be interesting for variety sake. Also good for "hey this vehicle I keep facing seems super strong..", you can go play it yourself to see if it is good players or just a busted vehicle. Personally I enjoy playing things like the Brits, because when I get a decent/good result I feel like I really earned it. As opposed to playing a busted/powerful line up, when I get a good result I just think "yep.. as expected..". EDIT: Playing something like the Brits, where it is mostly solid shot shells, is good for teaching you where to aim to hit important components/crew.

Would be nice if the flames would at least damage engines or radiators (because that finally does something now) like they did in real life. Molotov's were no joke to even closed armoured units. But we know thats asking a bit much from the gimmick for the snail. Annnnd the chinese tech tree for the ZSU. Because we need more copy paste. It doesn't damage planes or helicopters quickly enough, sadly. It takes around 30 seconds of prolonged flame to destroy a Heli. It's pretty silly.

Well this is just a video about how awesome the T-55 is, regardless of the flamethrower. I know already, because the Type 59 has been my favorite vehicle in the Chinese tech tree so far. Sadly, this thing has a major drawback. Ammunition, and its placement in the tank. Without the forward ready rack, you lose 20 rounds, and the rest of your ammo gets thrown into every corner of the fighting compartment. Turns you into an explosion waiting to happen.

Flamethrower damage modeling is absolutely terrible in WT. Dumping a load of burning fuel into an engine intake should be dealing damage ala a busted radiator, at the very least- and if the armor is too light to deny machine guns, it shouldn't be doing much to stop flamethrowers either.
