That’s awesome! Traditionally men were the weavers (at least in Canada). My own father (in his 70’s) doesn’t weave, but he does assemble looms, build parts for looms, thread heddles and pretty much every task related to weaving except for actually throwing the shuttle! Making fabric is extremely satisfying!

I have looms since 2018, however I was put off by warping, now I am ready to give it a try. I have to say I did use an inkling loom to try and get over my fear os warping. Wish me luck.

Good Luck! Just yesterday I took a look at my records and saw that I dressed my looms on average twice a month last year. I have to say that practice realllllly helps the whole process. I’m so fast and precise now. I can’t even remember the last time I made an error. I have going a lot of joy in the process!

Welcome and thank you!!! I would love to make more, but editing is NOT my strength! My 11 year old is starting to learn about editing, so I hope that one day he will be able to take that job on for me! My studio has changed around again, but I’m about to make another big change. Just waiting for my “dreambox” (search for that here on KZbin) to arrive and then I will do a huge re-organization.

Hi rebecca, thanks for the tour. I liked and subbed. I'd love to see the avl and compu-dobby in action, when you can. Also, maybe i missed it but i didn't see a warping board or mill. Any shortcuts to measuring out warps? Thanks so much.
@Rebecca.Robbins
@Rebecca.Robbins 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! So we don’t use a warping board or mill anymore! I just posted a short that super quickly shows how we measure our warps now. We just measure two inches at a time and beam sectionally! If we aren’t going to be dyeing the warp, we beam directly to the beam, otherwise we measure out skeins in the length of the warp that we are planning. I hope that helps!

When I'm setting my yarn I use a clothes hanger and hang it on a rope/line dont need a bucket or anything as I have a spin dryer which is amazing and I should be getting a ridged heddle loom soon so watching this has helped thank you x

Thank you so much! I haven’t made any videos in quite some time. I just did a huge re-organization of the studio! I’m definitely due for a new tour! I wish I had more time. We are busier than ever here in the studio, and I’m just not great at editing! I’ve been waiting for my 11 year old to HOPEFULLY want to edit them! If I had someone to edit, I would make more!

Chantal Wasmus awe, thank you! So sweet of you to ask me to make more! My plan when I first started THIS video was to visit weavers all over the world. As we know...for now, that plan is on hold. I spent a couple of months in Florida and am back in Canada now. I’ll do more studio tours once We are out of quarantine! For now, I’m back at my loom making more beautiful fabric! Xoxo

Hi Michelle! I’m actually working on a video today on my top pieces of equipment for efficient weaving. I’m not sure how big your studio space is, but don’t forget to leave space for winding pirns. Personally I like a big table in my work space. It’s such a great multifunctional area that can be used for any number of tasks. Best of luck with your school!

Hi Rebecca, I’ve just bought a four shaft loom and am waiting in books to help me learn. I loved the tour of your studio. I was surprised not to see slow cookers in the dye room, I have a friend who uses them a fair bit here for her business. Anyway, can’t wait to see more videos.

Yay!!! While I waited to take a weaving class, I watched a series of KZbin videos by Elizabeth Wagner and I learned the basics from those videos. I mostly dye cellulose fibers (so plant based) and heat isn’t required for the dyeing process. When I do dye wool I use my oven or my stovetop. I have stove in the studio that is dedicated for dyeing, so that I never have the chemicals needed for dyeing in my kitchen. I haven’t made a video in quite a while, but I have a new very exciting addition coming to the studio in the next few months that I will probably make a video about!

I actually have a third that I moved out of my studio and into my daughters studio since she weaves for me and it’s easier for her to work from home. We work pretty hard though and the looms get used. All three of them came to me second or third hand though and none of them were being used at all when I bought them. One actually narrowly escaped being used for its wood! They all needed some love (read: time and money) to be the amazing production looms that they are today.
