Cheat Sheet: The important test is serum ferritin. Low, below 10, means iron deficiency, anemia, below 30 watch it. High, above 200, can mean iron overload, inflammation, hepatitis, cancer. Bacteria/infection tend to consume your iron, body responds by trying to hide/horde iron. Carnivore does not cause hemochromatosis (excess iron/iron overload).

Too many people follow diets far too high in refined carbohydrates, hence low copper, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc.
@scottw23173 жыл бұрын
funnily enough with high carb diets can exacerbate haemochromatosis. One of the issues being inflammation of not the liver but kidneys stopping the flushing out of some of the iron. there are many stories of very high iron levels dropping from keto or carnivore diets are kidney function changes.

Actually refined flour has been fortified with iron. This iron is toxic because it's not in a form that's bioavailable.

Start eating liver.

Mine was 7 and in a few months it went up to 12 with desiccated bovine liver pills from amazon. Watch the videos on the website that explains their formula. Also, you could grind up a few ounces of liver and hide it in a meatloaf. Or eat little neck clams. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087BMSLZJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@@Gengh13 you can't rely on liver too much, else you get Vitamin A overdose. Liver is good once a week. For the rest of the days, you need to get your daily steak or chunk of meat.
@sassuki3 жыл бұрын
@@KJB0001 Not enough. You need to correct the deficiency fast using high-dose iron tablets (80 to 100mg) combined with 1.000mg vitamin C to improve absorption. With 100mg it takes 100 days to get up 100 points in the ferritine score. But make sure you take the Vitamin C tablet with it at the same time!

@@sassuki unless you eat polarbearliver you can't overdose it. there is no dokumented case of vitamin-a-intoxication from normal liver. Toxicitiy cases only occur when highly supplemented. You just can't go wrong with eating liver.

My iron was extremely low a year ago and it fully explained my fatigue. I was worried about the iron supplements because of the reviews but I got my labs drawn with a company called Personalabs. Educated myself on iron and how I can elevate the levels, did my studying and implemented the things I learned and I was able to get my levels up on my 3 month checkup. I believe the panel I ordered was the healthy male checkup from Personalabs for like $100

I almost lost my leg years ago because of an infection! I was taking 2 iron tablets a day as directed by my doctor! I wonder if the iron helped the infection?
@sassuki3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Also depends on the dosis. If you say 2 tablets, this sounds like low-dose.

Single carrier of H63D here. Incidentally found out I had elevated liver iron by participation in an MRI research study, later got genetic testing which picked it up. Currently just outside the normal range, maybe in mild overload. I started donating blood every 2 months, and plan to the rest of my life. Sad part is if I get diagnosed with hemichromatosis, they won't accept my blood anymore, letting it go to waste. And then I'll have to pay to have it removed..

Hemochromatosis is pretty common. And treatment via phlebotomy or donation is simple, but nobody seems to state to exactly what ferritin level is the optimal target. Ferritin below 1000 seems to be asymptomatic. Ok great. So if I am at 1000 I should begin treatment so that the disease processes don’t begin as my levels continue to creep up. But how low should I go? 500? 50? Would love some clarity here.
