Scarface meets Miller's Crossing, but told in a harsh, yet lyrical drama is the only way I can describe this fantastic French film. I love the way all the crucial plot points aren't over stated, rather visual information is used instead. For example, there's a scene where Malik begins to work out that he'll always be seen as a servant to Cesar. Nothing is said, there's no Hollywood sign posting, there's just Malik looking up at a game show on tv, one where the contestants have to put the random letters together to make a word. It's suggests that Malik is 'putting the puzzle together'. Subtle and smart, lyrical yet realistically violent and gritty, this movie is a real treat.

A masterpiece. I just finished watching it and it got me hooked from the beginning. Very interesting characters, really beautiful shots and a good soundtrack. I definitely recommend this movie, I loved the gloomy atmosphere and the inspect on the French prison and it's detainees.

I love this movie, have it on Blu ray & have watched it like 20 times, each time you watch it you learn something new and understand a sub plot. I don't want it but I think there's potential for a sequel.... Like a godfather type, malik with new powerful and wealth and drug trading connections could show his evolution in character like Michael in GF2 and grow his power!!!

He took everything over and became the boss. The cars that were following him was his crew that worked for him, and protected him. That's why this movie is so good. He gets into prison as a no-body, and he comes out as one of the most respected gangsters.

If you really want to get down to the nuts and bolts of your erroneous comment, the correlation you observe is one that is entirely specific to you and your taste in cinematography. That doesn't apply to the rest of us; and so, you can't just assert that "a bad trailer usually precedes a bad movie" because it's completely subjective.

I don't need to do any more to prove it, I've already told you that perception of movies is specific to the individual viewer. The onus is on you to prove conversely that there is a correlation between bad trailers and bad movies and so far you have failed to provide any meaningful statistics.
