I want a MiSTer Pi setup because a 2nd MiSTer has never been so affordable. I want a Taki MiSTer PSX because it's pretty much my dream MiSTer. Something tells me I'll probably want his other products too because frankly there isn't much competition.

3:50 - I tweaked the ao486 core, to read directly from a USB CD-ROM drive, about four years ago. But yeah - nobody seemed to interested. In fact, a couple of people told me "SD card is the future", and that I was wrong for even trying. lol I do think though, for reading PS1 disks, it could work as well. Since the PS1 core doesn't have to do the security checks etc. As long as the disk itself doesn't have any weird extra *physical* protections (which some did), most games should be readable via USB CD-ROM. AFAIK, that would only require some code added to main MiSTer. The core wouldn't even notice the difference, it would just read from the real CD rather than from SD/SSD/NAS.

Now that Taki is designing new boards, some of the limitations of the DE10 nano hardware can be overcome if they can add more GPIO access, but it would also need developer support to implement. That said, I would think implementing CD access via existing USB drives is something that should be reasonably easy to do on the Linux side of the MiSTer. My understanding is that Linux is already getting the disc images into the cores, and if it's doing that by mounting, I don't see why it couldn't use a mounted actual disc.

My favorite PS1 game to just pick up and play for a few minutes at a time is Digimon Rumble Arena. Great little simple brawler. My favorite in-depth PS1 game would probably be Silent Hill, Can sit down and play that for HOURS at a time. Oh, and I got a demo disc once that had Monsters Inc: Scream Team, and you should definitely not sleep on that game, it's a hidden gem!

The best way to play SEGA games is on SEGA hardware. The best way to play Emulated SEGA games is on SEGA style hardware. You want that feel? Get the real deal. Don't play SEGA games on PlayStation or N64 looking hardware. Do it on SEGA looking hardware. Like Analog did. I'd like to see Taki do SEGA styled hardware myself. I'd buy a lot more from him.

I did get a mister pi. On the first batch I was only able to secure the addons, in the second batch I secured the base kit. Everything arrived a week or two ago.

Hopefully Mister Addons eventually offers a Mister Pi compatible version of their excellent passively cooled case, even with a Noctua fan I find the noise can be kinda irritating when the MiSTer is somewhere close by like on a desk

As in is it a drop-in replacement I can use to replace my old Analogue IO board (v6.1) that I bought with my MisterFPGA originally back in 2021? As I've said in a previous video, if you order anything from retro remake DON'T use 4px shipping..... I was able to buy a misterpi in the first batch round 2, and it's been almost a MONTH with no misterpi. I've emailed retro remake about this, and I was told to "wait longer."

have you tried mister pi on your pvm and have you tried the analog audio output? no output on crt when running utilities and audio muffled for many. curious if anyone has had good analog audio bc most seem to use mini toslink to a DAC

@@VideoGameEsoterica I did not mean Scripts. I said utilities... such as SDRAM test or MiSTer Laggy. I haven't tried much else but Flappy Bird also doesn't work. and analog audio muffled. I compared it directly to a MMS using same SD card launching the same utilities using all the same cables and same CRT and everything loads properly on MMS. analog audio very clear from the Multisystem. I would like you to try the same on your PVM or CRT before saying you have tested it and it passed on all fronts. and yes I made sure everything was updated to latest firmware and ran update all 3 times successfully just to be triple sure

having a nice-looking (not another ugly 3d-printed one) ps1 mister might bring me to get one. Currently only using the dock of my pocket through the dock. the theoretical release of pregnant Arnie meant I didn’t want to get the Mister just for Saturn/PS1 (have no nostalgia with the N64) Having the option to load original CDs would be used once or twice, but I doubt it’s worth the extra size, let alone price.
