I also realized i wasn't the target demographic and I don't even have a degree in psychology. I've just taken psych101 and also like to up keep up with medical research including psychology so i read a lot of studies@@groovyghostnotes But even so i found the book kind of grounding. When I'm in a bad place it's easy to forget to reach for what you know. So reading this book helps me go - oh duh, i haven't been outside all day that's def not helping my mental state. Even though i know it all, it's like a card catalogue that allowed me to quickly find what will be useful to me atm.

As a fellow psych girlie, I've been avoiding this books for a WHILE (even tho I love Dan himself) just because of the whole " youtuber writing a mental health book" icky thing but may have to have a read :D Edit: prolly not for me but also ✨️parasocial dad✨️

I don't get it, why do every psychology student that doesn't study psychoanalysis hates it? Like, girl, everyone has an unconscious

most of it gives us a bad rep, since a lot of it is rooted in freudian beliefs, which isn’t necessarily correct. that, and freud himself doesn’t have the best reputation. psychoanalytic theories are also very hard to measure and prove scientifically. behaviorism often gets the best reputation since it CAN be proven scientifically. there’s just a lot of “trust me bro” proof to a lot of psychoanalytic ideas. to me, and surely plenty of others, psychoanalytic approaches often seem like a reach with no real support behind it. as for your last comment, no. that’s actually incorrect. it’s highly debated if a “subconscious” actually exists. at least in the way freud frames it.
