France is disputably THE beating heart of Europe and has been for a while. For years they were the dominant military power and until the 20th century, their language served as the lingua franca of the Western world. How did this country grow this fast and why is France the way it is. Find out by watching "A Quick History of France"

Why do you refer to Charlemagne as "infamous"?
@Ghipoli
@Ghipoli 6 жыл бұрын
Well he's known for his conquests, which weren't the friendliest. That said, if you put it in a historical perspective, he was just a really good leader in a time where everyone was brutal. So in that sense, maybe I should've used a different word.
@Rao665

Ghipoli uhh...EVERY conquest is "not the friendliest"...but not every conqueror would be considered "infamous"...if that were the case...most monarch, political leaders on earth would be considered "infamous"...infamous is for people like Ghenghis Khan, Caligula, Ivan the Terrible. THATS infamous.

Blitzkrieg was just old prussian mobility warfare using modern communication and vehicles. Most of the german army still use cavalry to support their infantry but by strategically deploying their tanks and making many recordings and much propaganda about tanks the allies and german population thought the germans did have a lot of tanks. At the start of the war Germany had no oil supply except for some oil from the soviet union but they still were in able to mobilise a large part of their tanks. They could this because they didn't have a large amount of tanks. their tactics also required infantry and artillery to support the tanks (the tank armor and gun weren't strong enough to defeat allied heavy tanks) and the use of cars, trucks and drugs by the infantry forces of germany were some of the biggest reasons for their quick advance.

France became the 5th economy after brexit i heard
@Ghipoli
@Ghipoli 6 жыл бұрын
Who told you that? Brexit hasn't really affected the UK's GDP and France is still more than 0.2 trillion US$ behind the UK. If anything Brexit has made more big companies (Siemens, Google, Snapchat) willing to invest in Britain because it's easier to have free trade in a country that's not limited by EU protectionism.
@r-soft5274
@r-soft5274 6 жыл бұрын
Ghipoli I heard that on a french geopolitic channel. The video was talking about the most valuable moneys of the world and he says that the british sterling was less valuable after the brexit and then france became the 5th economy due to that. Maybe this channel is not a reliable source of informations but the dude seems to be a specialist of geopolitic.
@Ghipoli
@Ghipoli 6 жыл бұрын
It is true that the Pound Sterling has dropped since Brexit, because currencies base their worth on the trust of the users. Something as big as Brexit is bound to result in a decrease of trust among the British populous and thus the Pound Sterling has dropped. This does not (necessarily) mean the economy of a country got worse. In a lot of aspects Britain's economy has gotten worse since Brexit and in a lot of other aspects their economy has gotten beter. Whatever is gonna happen, the full consequences of Brexit are only gonna be properly visible in about 5 years. It's way too early to judge.

what i never understood about the Catalan independence movement or groups like ETA...why was SPAIN the only nation expected to answer for their independence in the eyes of separatist and the media?? why doesnt the Catalan independence movement ever mention Rousillon, or the ETA about Aquitaine. Its as if the one nation that can afford to lose territory on the mainland doesnt have to worry about it. Its just separatist taking advantage of an overall weak nation.

Ghipoli No problem :) Here are some : 0:03 : Corsica went missing. 0:52 : the Roman border is slightly wrong, it should be on the Danube. 1:29 : Ok, both are born in Lugdunum, but none were ethnic Gauls. Claudius was Italian and Caracalla from North African descent. 2:14 : that Aquitaine border is from the French region of Aquitaine in the 20th century. It used to be much bigger. 2:50 : Italy was already controled by Odoacer for 10 years at this moment. 3:20 : Merovingians kings were still powerful here. They became irrelevant in the second half of the seventh century. 3:45 : that painting's not Charles Martel, that's Pepin the Short. 3:48 : that painting's not Pepin the Short then, that's Louis the Pious. 4:37 : these paintings are not Charles the Bald and Louis the German, there are Charles the Simple and Charles the Fat. I hope this is helpful :)

I already noticed Corsica and mentioned it in a comment. Ah, I must've looked at the wrong map. Yeah, that's true. Still, they were (most likely) raised in Gaul so it kind of counts? Idk. I will 100% admit that I was incapable of finding a proper picture of the borders of Aquitaine at the time and just tried something that was "kind of correct" You're most likely right. I'm not an expert on the fall of the Roman Empire and since it's a very chaotic time, it's very hard to find good info and make that into a short straight-forward video. Yeah, I meant that, but probably didn't phrase it too well. I should have more clearly stated the time period I was talking about. I think I did a better job at this in my Bulgaria video. What?! I thought Google Images was reliable! What?! I thought Google Images was reliable! What?! I thought Google Images was reliable!

Well it's not bad, you did quit a good job. But it could be far better, some facts are wrong (in 1914 it wa Germany who declared war on France) and you missed some very important part of French history like the seven years war, the american war of independance, italians war... And also how can you make a video of the whole history of France without talking about Charles de Gaulle? France basically survived ww2 thanks to him. But i recognised it's impossible to speak about the whole history of France. There is simply to much to say.

I do acknowledge issues with mass immigration and think multiculturalism is a pretty stupid idea, but you're really overstating the problem here. 80.1% of France is fully ethnically French, 13.3% is half-French and only 6.6% is fully non-French (both parents not being ethnically French). There are definitely demographics and criminal issues (especially in big cities), but Europe is not lost yet at all.

Here you go.... 1 - Gallic Wars - Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2,000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian. 2 - Hundred Years War - Mostly lost, saved at last by a female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare: "French armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman." 3 - Italian Wars - Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians. 4 - Wars of Religion - France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots. 5 - Thirty Years War - France is technically not a participant but still manages to get invaded. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her. 6 - War of Devolution - Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux. 7 - The Dutch War - Tied. Dutch farmers and tulip growers are tougher than they look. 8 - War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War - Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Francophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power. 9 - War of the Spanish Succession - Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since. 10 - American Revolution - In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; “France only wins when America does most of the fighting." 11 - French Revolution - Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French. 12 - The Napoleonic Wars - Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for the Russian winter, Prussian grenadiers or a British footwear designer. 13 - The Franco-Prussian War - Lost. For the first, but certainly not the last time, Germany plays the role of drunken frat boy to France’s ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night. 14 - World War I - Invaded, humiliated and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Winds up a tie for les francaise. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, the American fascination with personal hygiene (a fascination totally foreign to French women) incites widespread use of condoms by American soldiers, thus precluding any improvement in the French bloodline. 15 - World War II - A decisive defeat even by French standards. Hitler and the German Youth spend Christmas time sleeping soundly through the winter, then arouse themselves to conquer France in six weeks. Hitler dances in front of the Eiffel Tower, while the French command staff retreats to Algeria to institute a crash language program to teach French privates how to say "I surrender" in German and French generals to say "We surrender" in German. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song and some small portion of the German work ethic. De Gaulle of it all... 16 - First Vietnamese war (in Vietnamese circles, known as "the scrimmage", or "the exhibition game" where the varsity squad is kept on the sideline to see how the second string will play) - Lost. French soldiers, fresh off their four year occupation by the Germans, catch a terminal case of Dien Bien Flu. 17 - Algerian rebellion - Lost. First time an Arab army has beaten a Western army since the Crusades, and produces the first rule of modern Islamic warfare: "We can always beat the French." A nice phrase, but it lacks something in originality, since it is also the first rule of warfare for the Italians, Russians, Prussians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese, Native Americans and capitalists. 18 - War on Terrorism - Lost. Incensed at not being included in the original "Axis of Evil," France refuses to participate. When it becomes clear that this is a "no-kidding war," Jacques Chirac looks at his cards and immediately surrenders to that old warhorse, Gerhard Schroeder. For good measure, he also surrenders to five million illegal immigrants from Algeria.
