Spot on review. I played solo and also played with my wife and my 10 and 12 year old son and daughter. It was fun both ways, but enjoyed the interaction and cooperative play with the four of us at the table the most. The art is fantastic. The tiles are very colorful and match the theme perfectly. Working as a team was a lot of fun and we were able to "win", find a way out of the dream world on our second attempt. It's a matter of exploring judiciously to discover the right items needed to overcome obstacles blocking your exit. It takes playing an ability card to explore, so this creates a time restriction. You have to know that it will take multiple plays to uncover all secrets. Since there are multiple exits, there are multiple paths to win. This game is very reasonably priced. The story is interesting. With so many games out there, this game sets itself in a very nice niche. It's a game you can jump into with little effort. Rules are short and light. It's good for several sessions to see and uncover all that it has to offer. As I have 100 games on my list of "games I'd like to play", this was a great fit. We felt like we got our value quickly, had some fun sessions, had a real sense of closure/completion, so we were able to feel satisfied and move on to the next game on our list. To me, that feels a lot better than a complicated game that sits on my shelf unplayed, or a $120 game I feel like I have to play for a long time to justify the expense. This is more like renting a movie for movie night (small expense, shorter duration, fun night), versus buying a 6 season series like GoT that takes up every week's movie night for over a year and then has an ending that makes the whole thing a colossal waste despite the fact there were many fun nights along the way.

The large wells in the box storage system allows the mini figures to be stored with the standees. It’s a perfect fit.😊

I love the bright colors. That was one aspect of Warhammer Quest Silver Tower that I really liked: The lurid, chaos infused palette.

I have OD&S my wife and I tried it twice one character each. The threats were unmanageable, It felt like we couldn't get geared up before we were overwhelmed. It all happened too fast. We were left scratching our heads wondering what we were missing. One day I'll go back to it and try to find its rhythm. The art is fantastic and the promise of the game is alluring, yet elusive...

It can definitely snowball really quickly.

I got it as a bargain a few weeks ago. I found it very frustrating that I had to wander around not being able to do anything, but I did see a video which said it's better to play two handed so you're not so restricted. I got it because I liked that it was similar to Tainted Grail in the way the map was built but nowhere near as expensive! 😀 Of Dreams & Shadows is just one of those games that should be better than it is, even though I quite enjoy it. The idea of going through mysterious country-spanning underground caverns is not conveyed through a dotted line on a map. The story text is great though.

The map is so ugly in OD&S, especially because all of the other art is so great.

I sold my copy of "Dreams and Shadows" a while ago. The art is fantastic, but the gameplay didn't entertain me for some reason + I really sucked at that lol. Great video Daniel!

I love the box comparison at the end. I'm so bummed Legends Untold is sizing up their boxes. I loved the small box format and how much they could fit in those. I actually was able to get the Weeping Caves and Sewers into one box.

Totally agree.

I like Of Dreams & Shadows purely for the narrative aspects. There's so much storytelling unfolding as you play it feels like you're creating a unique story each time, I actually wrote a playthrough up into a short story because it felt right to do so. I haven't played Lost Ones but I've always been interested, it looks decent

Nice one Daniel. I would like something that’s like tainted grail or sleeping gods that is… neither of those games. PS the enemy ‘Sluagh’ is probably said ‘slew-ah’ from the gaelic.

I’m not a big fan of either of those games.

Never heard of this game (but own of dreams and shadows). Look around for this one and there is an expansion that offers a new storybook. So maybe that offers more replay? Anyway now I want this game :-)

I think they were planning on more to it with extra expansion s.

It seems interesting, but I’m not sure why I wouldn’t just play a random hexcrawl instead. I like that each tile is “unique” but it seems like a double-edged sword that each tile has prescribed tiles connecting with it.

A lot of people just want to play a board game, and not have to deal with the work needed to create a random hexcrawl for themselves.

HI Daniel, Thanks for covering this. I have played OD&S, but not Lost Ones. Other than art and lore, do the two seem similar? or does not liking one mean you won't like the other one? You mentioned that there are better games in the genre, did you have a specific one in mind? All the best.

Totally different games. As far as better games, I just meant better adventure games, which are almost all of the other games I’ve covered. :)

When cards or the book are shown on camera, read aloud, AND MOVED AROUND 😢, it causes motion sickness. Otherwise, I enjoyed this overview.

I have very shaky hands and a small cheap table, so motion sickness might happen. Sorry!
