When Alonso said we couldn't use the ipod Nano to indicate the year the event occurred, I wondered if the device stored some of her late father's music. Lupita really made that pizza storyline work and I cried with her when she found that photo. Given this is the 3rd go at "sound is deadly" I thought this was really well done. As was the trailer - it didn't reveal too much... given I went in thinking Djimon had a main role! Joseph was a great scene partner with Lupita. And as unlikely as it was that the cat was mostly silent, I'm a sucker for cute pets. I guess that replaced having children at the centre. I almost wished the children at the fountain had a bigger part. It was strange to see the credits with a very short list of actors.

@brianng83506 ай бұрын
Without being redundant, they have to do world building, which is almost impossible since the monsters are so powerful. They would have to set this in the past like Prey with Predator or the future like Jason X to make it sci-fi. So far, they done it in rural and suburb area. And now the urban area. There is not much variations they can do...

I really liked this movie, saw it today. I thought the use of the cat throughout the movie was kind of magical, a magical cat! My cat would have been gone at the first explosion. I liked the relationship between the two leads, Lupita is kind of mesmerizing to watch. and the moodiness of the city with the smoke and the rain, explosions etc was very well done. This might be my favorite of the three so far.

I personally felt the action/thriller sequences to be underwhelming. It didn’t feel like there was anything new or inventive to really get the tension up. I too wondered how they figured out the "BE QUIET!" part so quickly, probably shortly after first seeing the trailer. And speaking of the trailer, I thought I had fallen asleep because there wasn't the attack on the Mitch McConnell look-alike nor the diner scene with the map. Might those have been slotted out with the reshoots you mention? I still use my 160gb iPod daily when out and about walking. I was mocked for it with a post yesterday. Considering the aliens are so sound sensitive, WTF are they so noisy? Clomping around, constantly clicking etc. Definitely not as tense as the first one but still plenty of jump scares and other moments of anxiety.

Was on the fence on this one until your Breakfast All Day entry....am now even more torn. The first one creeped me out royally, the second less so yet still worked, and am also not certain that dust-covered, in-disarray lower Manhattan wouldn't trigger some mighty potent and upsetting memories (lost two friends in the Towers). That said, we do love Ms. N'yongo, and THEN, there’s the cat, and, as we all know, dogs are loyal servants, cats are upper management. Will have to consider. "Pig" ruled, so Mr. Woolf's participation is another plus. Thanks as ever, Christy and Alonso.

@SydneyTravellersGuide6 ай бұрын
Saw this thursday night here and I was mostly bored with this and I think the conceit of a quiet / silence based alien has had its "diminishing returns" and its here. Too many daytime scenes because I guess that alien is out of the bag. Never scary, overly reliant on jump scares and they even repeated the big "assault" scene twice sort of. The second time it happened, all I can think I cant believe they're doing this again. So many jump scares which shows they knew it wasn't scary. Lupita Nyong was excellent though. The movie limped its way to the finale and we didnt need to see the "suicide: scene because it took away from the character. 3/10 for me. The trailer was terrific and had me hyped but the movie itself was kind of weak.
@triciascola42776 ай бұрын
I agree with the woman she’s 100% awning understood this movie completely. However, the man, I don’t even know if you watched the movie. Every time they spoke or there was noise they were near water or something louder than Them. Also, When Eric read Sam’s poem, it describes how long she’s had Cancer. And at the end, when Eric gets on the ship, that’s the boat that is going to The island in quiet Place two. And when Eric chases the cat originally you were going to get why the creatures killed humans But Paramount cut it out of the movie, which made that scene seem silly.
@dollarsaurus015 ай бұрын
I enjoyed it but there were so many moments where I was like “where is everyone?!” They’re walking all over Manhattan and yet after only a day or two the city is nearly desolate? We get that great scene of the huge crowd of people trying to walk through the streets silently to get to the boats, but after that they never really run into anyone in the streets or anywhere they go. Just thought it was jarring

The things that bothered Alonso don't seem like things that would bother me. I watched the trailers with all the downtown NYC chaos and dust and destruction, and I didn't really think about 9/11. (And I lived dowtown NYC when it happened!!) So, I think I'll be fine with that aspect. My one slight hesitation is that I was never all that into this franchise to begin with. The movies have been good, but they haven't knocked me out. I'll probably check this out though. Perfect AMC A-List fodder! Thanks to you both!!
@dollarsaurus015 ай бұрын
Yeah sometimes I don’t know what his deal is, that was a really grasping-at-straws-to-take-offense nitpick to make. Are we really so sensitive about 9/11 after twenty-plus years that a modern disaster movie set in New York can’t show ash and dust?
@Thomas156 ай бұрын
I was disappointed with the film. It was a wasted opportunity to tell an interesting story about how the invasion began. The story we got was just bland. The guy was introduced too late and I didn’t buy into their relationship, nor did I understand what either of them wanted or were trying to do. The lack of terror and confusion amongst the characters also made the film less believable - the same scenario in part two’s prologue was a lot more effective. (I did love the brief shot of the creatures crawling/jumping on the buildings!) Also, like you said, how did everyone know that they had to be quiet and couldn’t even talk? While it’s not a surprise that they’d quickly realise the creatures were attracted to loud noise, they did seem to figure out the sound thing in just a few minutes. This concept worked well when told from the perspective of a family unit, that’s why the first two films were so effective. If ‘Day One’ focused on a couple, or siblings, or a family it may have worked better. Or maybe a different approach entirely, perhaps the perspective of the military? 6/10. (The cat was the MVP!)

I know genre movies require a suspension of belief but did you know that one and half million people live in Manhattan? Where did they all go? And why do 15-20 aliens attack 2 people? Does that mean millions of aliens landed? And the boat at the end would not hold the population of some single buildings in Manhattan. I loved the first A Quiet Place even though I had similar questions about the premise (8 billion earthlings and the aliens are hanging around farmlands picking off one or two at a time?!) Lupita is fantastic but the basic premise of the movie is totally unbelievable and I couldn’t get into it

The hell are we talking about, the stakes are lower because the main character is terminally ill?! Ridiculous. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills with how much praise this is getting. Aside from the moderately decent characterization, I’m struggling to figure out what this does differently from the other 2 films that have already stretched this premise thin. Someone walks quietly, accidentally makes a noise, and suddenly there’s an alien 10 feet away to jump out at them. Plus, setting the whole movie at the start of this apocalypse in a big city just forces you to ask a bunch of logistical questions that the first movie managed to avoid by being set when/where it was. I’m just tired of this franchise and am honestly pretty shocked no one else seems to be.
