I'm grateful that, of all people, Bono & U2 did not forget to make mention of Shane MacGowan after his passing; especially in America, where Shane is not as well known as he is in Ireland & the UK. If you are not familiar, now is the time to Google his story, hear his songs & share his brilliance.💚

Oh, people know the music of the Pogues, even if mainly Christmas in New York, and they continuously still boast about their ancestors being from Ireland or Scotland. Even if it doesn't even mean much anymore and/or none of them ever went there to trace their roots.

I met him at a gig at an irish pub in London many years ago. The Dubliners were playing and he was singing. I am spanish, lived in the UK then and my then british boyfriend took me to the gig. Had no idea who Shane was but I loved his singing. Thought he was a really brilliant singer. It was a small place so I saw him during the break and to cut the story short we got chatting and he agreed to come with me and surprise my then boyfriend who was a big fan of his. He also invited me for a beer before that and when they started playing again he sang me a song. I can't tell you how shocked and embarrassed I was!!!!! 😅 As you can imagine, my ex boyfriend was over the moon when he met Shane,he couldn't believe it!!!! Only after the gig my ex boyfriend told me that Shane was supertalented and famous. Shane was funny, really down to earth, authentic and his sensitivity transpired when talking to him in person. He was even a bit shy!!! In fact, he was quite the opposite as when he was performing. That combination made him quite irresistible!!! There was absolutely no way I could think he was so famous and so talented when I talked to him!!!! Probably, he realised I didn't know who he was and that's why he agreed to surprise my ex boyfriend. No idea, but I can tell you he was really kind and easy going. What a wonderful memory of my London years!!!! It is so bloody sad he passed away!!!! He was definitely a one-off. A great lyricist a bloody brilliant musician, a punk a poet. Rest easy legend! Thanks for your music!!!! 😢

Thanks! Yes, it is a beautiful memory!!! . He was very genuine, kind and funny. I'll never forget my then boyfriend's face when he saw me with Shane walking towards him in that London irish pub. The expression on his face was priceless!!!!! 😂😂😅 The fact that Shane invited someone he didn't know at all, like me, for a beer really says a lot about who he was. I think he liked the fact I was an emigrant in the UK as his parents were emigrants too. When I told him I was spanish, he liked that. He said he'd been in Spain and loved it. In fact, the Pogues have a song called Fiesta that talks about Andalucia. We got along well, we had many things in common. Talking to him was very easy. What I found mesmerising about him is how different he was when talking to him in person. On stage he was that wild, fearless, charismatic, bloke and, in person, he was the total opposite, even a bit shy. I must say that made him quite irresistible!!! 😊😊😊 There was sonething truly special about him that's difficult to describe. I could have never imagined that he was such a super talented and fanous singer when I had a beer with him. I've met many people in my life with a chip on their shoulder when, in fact, they are nobody. He was the total opposite. It was impossible to guess he was such an important figure in the UK an Irish music scene if one didn't know about it. He even told my then boyfriend to look after me because, according to him, I was brave and special. He even told him, he liked me a lot!!!!! That made me lol!!!!! 😂 I couldn't believe he dedicated a song to me when they started playing again. I was embarrassed beyong belief!!!! 😅Unfortunately, I don't remember which song it was because I hadn't heard about Shane Mcgowin nor The Pogues before as I had only been living in the uk for about 2 years then. Only went to the gig because my ex was a fan. It is a really beautiful memory! His death made me so very sad!!! He was definitely very special. A one-off... He's gone but I am sure his music will live on. forevet... ❤

I know it's fashionable nowadays to hate on U2, but here at least, their hearts are in the right place. Alas, this is just not a good rendition of "Rainy Night in Soho." Bono keeps waving his arms trying to get everyone else to rise to the occasion, even though he doesn't really do it, either. They needed to come up with something a bit more thought-out and then rehearse for an hour or two before the show. As is, it looks like they just decided to do it and everyone's not on the same page.

I respectfully disagree. Both bands came from a very punk background and followed their own trajectory. Like rockets, they landed on two different planets. To me, music is art that connects with people. If you have done that seemingly simple thing then you have succeeded.
