In 1986 I went for a pee in a wee pub in Red Cross, Co. Wicklow. Beside me at the urinals was a man that looked exactly the same as Ronnie Drew. I said to him "how's it going" and he replied in almost the exact same brogue as Ronnie "Grand". I couldn't help myself, I said "you look a lot like Ronnie Drew", he laughed and said "I'm Gerry, Ronnie's brother". It was an uncanny experience. I told him about my musical relatives, the Watchorn's from Crumlin in Dublin and he knew them well. We all had a drink out at the bar and I never saw Gerry again. It was an honour to see Patsy Watchorn playing and singing as part of this great ballad. Great job U2. Here's to you Ronnie Drew, and your Brother Gerry!

I was in a guitar shop, a few years back, saw someone that looked familiar. I said to him, you look like that Sean bloke from the Dubliners. He said I am that Sean bloke from the Dubliners. I felt such an idiot & we had a great laugh. Took a few selfies etc . He was such a gentleman. After he and his wife left the owner told a few nice stories about him. A Class act. So what are we doing then..? are we going to really keep this giant of a man's memory really, really alive? My first suggestion is that we gather in Dublin every anniversary of his death and spreading outward from Merrion Row and O'Donaghue's, we listen to serious amounts of his music, drink a little, (responsibly of course) then swop our favourite stories of what he meant to us all as individuals. There could be other venues at the same time, (all suggestion appreciated.)
