Murde R on the links was great👍maybe to read when you need a charing up or just have fun. For me Christie books take my mind of things and rlaxe me like before an operation or during my studies when I was tested(sorry, my English is bad, but it's my third languade 😁) great job👍👍👍

Thank you! I think your English is great, I’d love to be able to write that well in other languages! 😊 I love a good Christie as a comfort read too. They take my mind off things and always cheer me up, despite the murders! 😊

This was epic! Loved it! I'm a big fan of the David Suchet adaptations. This adaptation of The Big Four is the only instance where I prefer the adaptation to the novel. I actually really liked how they changed the motivation of the killer. It felt more Poirot and more believable.

That was fun, thank you Alice, I do have one thing I would like to add, for Peter Ustinov, though Appointment with Death was his last time as Poirot as a feature film,, he did do three more TV movies; Dead Man's Folly, (with Jean Stapleton,) Murder in Three Acts (with Tony Curtis,) and Thirteen at Dinner (with Faye Dunaway. Also as Japp is none other David Suchet.) David Suchet tells a wonderful story about his casting as Poirot and Rosalind's concern after seeing this movie of him as Japp. For people who may have never seen David Suchet in another Agatha Christie role and for fans of Peter Ustinov I thought I would let you know.

Thank you Sherri. My research didn’t really tell me about these, although I must have known about them at some point because I knew about Suchet as Japp. Possibly I read about that in Suchet’s book Poirot and Me, and I expect the TV movies were in the Poirot nonfiction book I enjoyed so much. 😊📚

@@AliceandtheGiantBookshelf He actually did one of the movies the same year as one of the TV movies, I think they wanted to end his contract, he and Rosalind didn't get on. The TV movies were all pretty good, my favorite was Dead Man's Folly of three of them. Also they had movie stars and hot TV stars in the TV movies which was an interesting mix. I do have the advantage of being older and remembering them and having them on all of the Ustinov Poirot's except one on DVD. I don't have Appointment with Death, for some reason that one is hard to find at a good price. Yes< it is in his book but i also saw it in an interview with David about Japp I think it was one of the specials about Poirot toward the end of his run. I hope it helps, for further eps for you.

Thank you for this wonderful video! I have read most of the Poirot books but still have a few to get to. I have watched all the episodes with David Suchet, who will also remain my favorite Poirot. He is simply perfect! My favorites are Death on the Nile (which is why I'm apprehensive of the new film, and also because I did not enjoy the 2017 one), Taken at the Flood (with the best interpretation of the murderer out of all the episodes), Mrs McGinty's Dead (love Zoë Wanamaker's Ariadne Oliver - her comments about her Finish detective still make me laugh out loud) and Five Little Pigs.

Amazing! This was such an impressive guide! Have still yet to read any Poirot but I will remedy that at some point. Interesting to hear your thoughts on Brannagh’s Poirot, which I enjoyed but I’m definitely a layman when it comes to Poirot. Suchet is by far the best Poirot and a huge part of my youth as my mum adored that show and I often watched it with her.
@AliceandtheGiantBookshelf
@AliceandtheGiantBookshelf 2 жыл бұрын
Suchet is brilliant. I think the Branagh films are probably widely liked by anyone who hasn’t read Poirot, but I just couldn’t get on board (no pun intended) with making it an action film when it’s a perfectly interesting and exciting mystery as it is. I felt Branagh had missed the point a bit, but the scenery was certainly stunning and the cast was great and I expect Death on the Nile to give us more of the same. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you pick up a Poirot soon. 😊📚

Detective Inspector Japp appears in the first book, The Mysterious Affair At Styles. Apparently Agatha Christie wrote that during the first world war in about 1916, but it didn't get published until afterwards. I think it's rather convenient that Poirot is normally close at hand when the crimes occur. Still I'm enjoying the books.

Thank you, yes Detective Inspector Japp is in the first book. It took quite a while for the book to get a publisher and be published. A lot of crimes happen near Poirot- if you met him you’d be best to move on quickly! 😊📚

Absolutely, David Suchet was my absolute favourite Poirot, and the one I liked best was his Murder on the Orient Express. I tried watching the new one and could not! He also did a documentary on the Orient Express and on Dame Agatha. When asked how he got Poirot's walk so right, he said he put a 10p coin between his bum cheeks and held it tight. Once he got that sorted, he didn't need the coin. ~ Jon in rural BC, Canada

Yay Poirot!! Ariadne Oliver is one of my favorite characters, too! There were spoilers for Mrs McGinty's Dead in Halloween Party? I missed that! Fortunately, since I read them far enough apart, it was okay that I read them out of order because I didn't remember. One thing that's always bugged me about Three Act Tragedy is how they changed the motive for the murder in the American version. I haven't read it yet for that reason. Do you think the altered ending is still decent, or should I try to find a British edition?
@AliceandtheGiantBookshelf
@AliceandtheGiantBookshelf 2 жыл бұрын
Ariadne is great! Luckily the spoilers aren’t so huge, I think if you hadn’t read Mrs McGinty and didn’t know to look out for them you probably wouldn’t notice! It wasn’t a reveal of the murderer or anything! I’ve heard they changed the motive but that it didn’t require any other changes to other chapters so I’m thinking it may not matter that much?! Seems weird to change it though, I haven’t read the US editions apart from Postern of Fate and The Unexpected Guest which I bought in New York. I did read that there’s one or two that got massively changed for the US edition and abridged, which were The Moving Finger and Murder is Easy. 😊📚
