My favorite Agatha Christie is "And Then There Were None" (aka "Ten Little Indians"). It is neither a Poirot or a Miss Marple, and part of what I like about it is that it doesn't follow the typical pattern of most Christie books. It's more of a thriller than a whodunit.
@donnyskd241211 ай бұрын
On Poirot, I really love "Five Little Pigs"; "Cards on The Table"; "Lord Edgware Dies"; " Curtains - The Last Poirot Case" (sad for Poirot 😢); "Poirot's Christmas" besides the other more popular ones you mentioned ... Now I'm reading "Sad Cypress", Hopefully It's a good one ...

I got first introduced to Aghata Christie by the story of Tommy and Tuppence, i live in Morocco (country in north Africa) bought a book for 20Dh (2 dolars) from a local library and it was called in Arabic "the mysterious enemy" instead of "The Secret Adversary". And Tuppence was called Kwatso not Tuppence, so when i first searched for the original version of it i was like who tf is Tuppence 😂 It was fun. ( And i know nobody asked )

Sounds like an interesting adaptation. Was her name some sort of translation of Tuppence?

I am from Germany and never was big into crime/mystery novels, that has always been my mother's favourite genre though. So, about ten years ago my mother and I went for a weekend trip to a small crime/mystery themed hotel in the Eiffel. There's also a mystery/crime themed café/book store/libary just across the street the hotel. We would go up to the library in the attic, order some tea and cake from the café downstairs and would read for several hours a day while having tea and cake. This libary is really cozy and has most crime novels that were published in Germany. That's the place where I started reading Agatha Christie novels. Over the years we have been to the hotel and the café/library quite a few times and everytime we went there I would read Agatha Christie novels. As of today, we have a shared collection in progress of Agatha Christies books and video adaptations. I guess my favourite book is still Death on the Nile, but I also really love A Murder is Announced, Murder at the Vicarige, 4.50 from Paddington, Appointment with Death, After the Funeral and some other Poirots. I guess, the only book I did not enjoy so much of Agatha Christie was The Big Four as I find it really not a great fit for Poirot.

Yeah, you should definitely read the Tommy & Tuppence novels in order. Those ones happen in a very specific order with recurring characters and relationships and aging evolve as the novels go. They are usually more adventure rather then murder mystery, though. I love, but they are not everyone's cup of tea.

I haven't read any Agatha Christie since high school and then I think I only read the Tommy and Tuppence books. I want to read her I think I'm just reluctant to start because I know it's such a huge commitment

I've read all Poirot and Ms Marple books as well as Harley Quin and Superintendent Battle and I think Col. Race (not big on Tommy and Tuppence or maybe I just came across a weak one and kind of lost my interest to read the rest) before solving Agatha Christie became a trend so I'm just here watching how the others fare. I gave up solving them in my head after reading my third book. I just wanted to know how the story unfolds. My first book was And Then There Were None followed by Peril at End House and then Murder On the Orient Express. I suck at being a detective so I gave up.

We totally agree on Miss Marple. LOVE her. Her books aren't always the best ones, but she's the best detective. I love the old BBC adaptations with Joan Hickson. Joan was actually handpicked by Agatha Christie to play Miss Marple back when Hickson was young and it kind of offended her. However, Christie kind of proved her point, because those are AMAZING. I love The Moving Finger as well. The poison pen letters were a fabulous insertion! My personal favorite is 4:50 to Paddington. I LOVE Tommy and Tuppence. They are a hoot. Agatha Christie disappeared in 1926 and just a few months after Amy Semple McPherson (founder of the Foursquare church) disappeared for a month, came back, and claimed she'd been kidnapped. The FBI tried to prove she'd faked it. Then a few months later, Agatha Christie goes missing. I personally have my own theory that Christie tried to see if you could fake your disappearance as easily as the FBI claimed. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)

@@ChantelReadsAllDay there are only 5 T and T books, so you have more than half! The first one was turned into a movie and the second into a tv series. I love Agatha Christie! For a recommendation, this isn't a classic mystery format, but The Stange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter (and the other two books in there series) do have Sherlock Holmes as a character! It's about a group of daughters of literary Victorian Scientists (Jekyll and Hyde, Dr Moreau, ect) who work together to try and figure out what a group of scientists are up to. Lots of great literary references and super fun!

It’s funny that you mentioned Endless Night because not only is it her worst book, but it is the worst book I have ever read. It was super boring, and she did the ending before but better in the past. As for The Moving Finger, I did not hate it, but I did not love it. Miss Marple is in the book for all of fifteen minutes and solves the murder. She made everyone in the book look stupid. My favorite is And Then There Were None. PS: She went missing in 1926.
