There's a rise in auto immune diseases in the USA. Genetic issues don't tend to spike like that. Here's my airbag analogy: people still die in car wrecks even when air bags are deployed. Sometimes airbags injure or even kill victims. Airbags are not 100% effective and unfortunately, some people have bad reactions with them. Does that mean I'm going to put myself or my family in a car without an airbag? Nope. Am I going to become a full time activist to get everyone to ditch airbags? No! Even if I get a broken nose from an airbag, I know it is much better than what would happen without one. So why are people like this with vaccines when they are proven to work and are proven to eradicate deadly illnesses?!

Also for anti Vaxxers looking at this comment, instead of a broken nose, it would be (depending on the trajectory of the vehicle) glass wounds and a broken bone or two to death by either impact damage (the thing that makes your bones break) or bleeding out (the glass), not to mention death by something like post explosion wounds/explosions (the engine) barely surviving in incredible pain and then catching a deadly disease that puts you in more pain and then kills you, or the worst outcome, the last one, minus death. Oh or your lack of will to put airbags in your car (stupidity) combined with your alcohol addiction makes you drive into Area 51 during the middle of ww3, causing the military to shoot you on site, on sight, with drones, planes, tanks, infantry, kamekazi bat napalm bombs (they do exist, or at least the us military has the funding to make millions of them), railguns, artillery, lasers (which can be made via tattoo removers),grenades, boats (if the get them in the desert), airships, mortars, literal rc bomb cars, and to finish it off, planes, that contain light tanks. (Or tank destroyers if they are small enough)

However, these rare cases are enough to scare people and distract them from the bigger picture, which is that vaccines have eradicated many disease that you will fortunately never grow to see. Take, for example, Smallpox. It was the first vaccine ever created. It had dangerous side effects, but it eradicated smallpox from the face of this planet. Years later, as we refined the science behind immunizations, polio, a terrible disease that crippled children too young to even know what they were going through, was eliminated completely in America and Europe, though it does still exist in some underdeveloped countries in the Middle East that don't have the infectious disease prevention services we have here. If we stopped vaccinating, then you would see a resurgence in diseases you never knew the severity of. Measles is not the flu. And similarly, pertussis is not your baby getting a little cough. These diseases can and have caused permanent brain damage, and even death. They are no joke. While vaccines have risks consumers should be aware of, these risks do not outweigh the benefit of a strong, often. lifelong protection that us offered by a single shot in the arm. I agree that there is room for improvement. I believe that, sometime in the future, we will be able to immunize people against disease by using eye drops. This will provide a more natural means of immunizing against a disease, will likely be safer than current immunizations, and will also encourage those why have phobias of needles to receive all of their vaccinations. But until then, the best thing you can do now is to get yourself, and your children vaccinated, granted that you and your children (if you have children) aren't immunosuppressed. Because that is a group of the population that can get these devastating effects fromvaccines. They rely on us protecting them. It's easy to say that you don't want to get vaccinated, but what you may be oblivious to, is that the mother of a child who is severely immunocompromised might contract, for instance, measles. Most people will usually recover from measles, but this child will get brain damage, if he's lucky. He might die. And I don't know about you, but I couldn't sleep at night knowing that there is something I'm not doing that could affect someone's loved one, and even take them away from them.

Here is a link to the MMR vaccine insert if you are interested. As you can see, the manufacturer is required to release all data regarding the vaccine, and it details potential adverse reactions that occurred during clinical testing www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circulars/m/mmr_ii/mmr_ii_pi.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwj1gYzLt4vmAhVQx1kKHYkHA10Q6sMDMAB6BAgBEAY&usg=AOvVaw0P3u_vagju07kTzAUiEalA

@Catherine Hazur I would agree with you to a certain extent. I believe vaccines work, but to minimize risk, should only be used when risk of contracting a communicable disease outweighs the risks of any potential vaccine side effects. What that does mean is that a newborn should not be getting vaccinated with the Hepatitis B (Engerix-B, as it's brand name is), since this is a disease that cannot be contracted by a newborn unless the mother had Hep B. Another example would be the HPV vaccine, which might work for those who will feel more comfortable having immunity against that disease. However, this vaccine should never be mandatory, since HPV is a disease you can control exposure to. If yo do not engage in sexual intercourse, you cannot get HPV, so ultimately, it is a personal decision. One thing I will acknowledge is the disappointment I feel when parents state their opinion on vaccines. This should not be an opinion-based issue, this should be based on solid, indisputable, scientific evidence. And I cannot blame parents who are on the fence with vaccines. Studies in support of vaccines are performed by the CDC and pharmaceutical companies, which will, of course, be bias in favor of vaccines. On the other hand, there are the holistic scientists who state their studies find a link between vaccinations and autism, etc. This can leave the public confused, scared, and unsure. You are injecting a foreign biological fluid into your body, the exact structure and ingredients of this fluid largely unknown to patients. Consequently, people are going to feel uncertain, and that is something that is natural, and needs to be handled better by modern medicine. I'm not a doctor, but based on the extensive research I've done on vaccinations, I can say that a reasonable approach would be to start vaccinating at a year of age, to provide comfort to parents and also to let the immune system develop to produce a more effective immune response to the vaccines. Also, certain shots, like the Hepatitis B series, and the HPV shot could be eliminated from the recommended schedule, and only encouraged for high-risk populations that have a greater liklihood of contracting such illnesses. Also, some booster shot doses could be eliminated, like the MMR. The first dose of this shot yields 93% immunity in most cases. A second shot increases this only by 4%. The risk of a second booster dose likely outweighs the very slightly increased immunity. But looking at the greater picture, a common ground that both doctors and parents can agree on is the desire for a healthier society, and a world where children don't have to worry about contracting dangerous diseases. Instead of arguing and tearing people apart, we need to take time to examine this issue and understand the concerns of both parties, and make a reasonable compromise that doesn't endanger the health or safety of the general public. I'm pro-vax, but I am anti-hostility, and I think education and proper knowledge is the best weapon we have against any challenge that might come our way

Jaap Koster a quote from the insert under Adverse Reactions: “Following vaccination in women, incidence rates for arthritis and arthralgia are generally higher than those seen in children (children: 0-3%; women: 12-26%),{17,56,57} and the reactions tend to be more marked and of longer duration.”
@kappasigma12845 жыл бұрын
Tuesday Nyx completely incorrect. It is not listed as a side effect, it is listed under the adverse reactions section. You should probably read the heading of that section at some point as well. “The following adverse reactions are listed in decreasing order of severity, without regard to causality, within each body system category and have been reported during clinical trials, with use of the marketed vaccine, or with use of monovalent or bivalent vaccine containing measles, mumps, or rubella”
@tuesdaynyx5 жыл бұрын
kappasigma1284 I’ve read the entire insert. If you read my comments to Japan Koster asking for my “source” I quote the FDAs website directly. According to medicine.net “Adverse reaction: In pharmacology, any unexpected or dangerous reaction to a drug. An unwanted effect caused by the administration of a drug. The onset of the adverse reaction may be sudden or develop over time.” I use the term side effect loosely as most people are not aware of the proper definitions of either term. Again, to paraphrase the MMR insert “following vaccination in woman incidence rates for arthritis are generally higher than those seen in children with increased severity and longer duration”.

I think the big issue with the whole "there are many studies on this issue " debate from anti vaxxers is that medical professionals are educated on how to analyse a medical article to see if it is based on facts. This comes down to the studies being peer reviewed, non biased, the study pool etc. Most 'research' these parents do is say "there are studies on it therefore must be true"

I have really negative reactions to vaccines, to the point that my pediatrician wasn't sure if I could even be vaccinated safely as a kid, and I still keep up on all my shots! It just took way longer than normal and because of that, I'm less protected. The only shot I never got was the chicken pox shot, because I ended up getting the chicken pox not long before I had the shot scheduled when I was little. The only other shot I don't get anymore is the yearly flu shot because in addition to my usual negative reaction I've had allergic reactions to both the live and inactive versions. Parents refusing to vaccinate children who can be medically vaccinated are monsters!

This seems so sad to me. Do they think they are going to change people’s minds by being mean and degrading? What good can all of this mocking and condescending accomplish? If someone was confronting me about a belief that I held, and they mocked my voice and called me stupid and laughed at me and made ridiculous assumptions about me, I don’t believe I would sit there and think, “Wow, they have a good point. Maybe I should reconsider.” I would think, “Wow, those guys are total jerks and I don’t want to be anything like them,” and I would get defensive of my current beliefs. So would most people, I think. If people on both sides of this debate would stop assuming that the people on the other side are just ignorant, uncaring, unthinking subhumans, and realize that they’re actually real people too, who just have different opinions formed by their different experiences, beliefs, and fears, maybe we could have some enlightening discussions that would actually benefit people.

I’m definitely pro-vaccinations. But in all fairness, regular physicians *might* have a basic understanding about how vaccinations work but for the most part they are only regurgitating what the makers of the vaccines tell them. So the amount of condescending belittling in this video makes it hard to take you guys seriously. The people who make the vaccines and perform the trials are the smart ones here. Not some condescending physician.
@dustin92585 жыл бұрын
Lillium 95 agreed.
@luxorien5 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Any physician is not only trained extensively in immunology (compared to the layperson) but also to do literature searches and interpret scientific data. They are also required to continually update their professional knowledge in light of the latest research. While there is certainly plenty of room for reform in the regulatory structure of the pharmaceutical industry, I think physicians' knowledge of vaccines extends a bit farther than "what the drug companies tell them". As pointed out in the video, physicians are on the front lines when these diseases come roaring back, and they experience the consequences of not vaccinating firsthand.
@dustin92585 жыл бұрын
luxorien so they have a basic understanding and supposedly read the reports generated by the makers of the vaccines? Bottom line is if they themselves weren’t on the team of people developing the vaccine or have a working knowledge of how every component in the vaccine works (which would require actually knowing every component the vaccine contains), then they just have a basic understanding. Being on the front lines has nothing to do with understanding how a vaccine works at an anatomical level. So yes, they are more qualified than your average person, but by no means experts on vaccines.
@luxorien5 жыл бұрын
@@dustin9258 Yes, that is exactly what I said. They obviously would not know more than someone who developed a vaccine, but their knowledge is not limited to what the manufacturer tells them. You seem to be implying that the only information about the safety and efficacy of vaccines comes direct from the manufacturer and that is demonstrably false. Your average doctor is going to have more information than a package insert available to them.

luxorien we’re talking around each other then. We are agreeing that they are more qualified than the average person but not an expert. Your arguments would be easier to hear and understand without the unnecessary insults. Calling people "beta cucks" and making fun of people's voices are 100% unnecessary considering how the pro-vaccine arguments are so strong. I understand that you are frustrated and infuriated by the anti-vaxx movement, as I am, but your insults are really unhelpful to the cause and only fuel their rhetoric. As a future physician, I plan on addressing parents who are on the fence or straight-up anti-vaccine like I would address any hesitant or non-compliant patient -- with respect and from a place of humility. As physicians, we are duty-bound to this standard because ultimately, it isn't about being right but about improving quality of life. We should be elevating the conversation instead of lowering it further into the cesspool its already in.

nerd alert As a vaccine sceptic myself I fully agree with your sentiments. It’s good to hear a pro vaxxer speak against this kind of mockery. I have also spoken out against anti vaxxers for being too febrile in their conspiracy ideas and too angry. People like me and you probably crave an honest , open discussion about this subject free of insults. I would be happy to help you understand what vaccine hesitancy is really all about. It might not be what you think though , however , I sense that you would be far more open than most about it. What I would say is that anti vaxxers are generally in 3 camps 1) conspiracy types 2) those who have experienced vaccine injury 3) those who have looked deeply into the science and are highly intelligent. Intelligent enough to know that what we are told is true often isn’t. Or 2 and 3 combined. I like to think I’m 2 and 3. I have spent many hours looking into things like aluminium and auto immune issues as well as looking at the social and cultural issues including the history of vaccines. What I found out is that there is so much more to learn than I thought there was. The idea that there is no debate to be had seems very suspicious and possibly the result of an insecure position. If this kind of childish mockery disturbs you , imagine how it feels if your child has been brain damaged straight after a vaccine and you have been given no explanation for it other than “ it can’t be the vaccine” then you go on the CDC website and read that brain damage is one of the listed side effects of DTaP. Then you are told it’s your “ bad genes”. But you do your research and you find out that aluminium can make its way into the brain from an injection via the lymphatic system because the brain can call upon macrophage cells when it needs help with inflammation. This is not me by the way , but my daughter had meningitis symptoms for 5 days after the DTaP. Our Doctor reckoned it was the Pertusis part of it that did the damage. I am also a professional , so I understand your point. Agreeing to differ and staying professional is so important and leads to mutual understanding. As Voltaire was once quoted as saying “ I disagree with you entirely , but I will fight to the death for your right to say it “ (loose translation)
@nerdalert14965 жыл бұрын
@@3chords490 I am speaking against mockery, not against vaccines. My comment isn't so much about agreeing to disagree but about being a better doctor. We have a higher standard to live up to so no matter how vehemently I disagree with anti-vaxxers (or vaccine skeptics for that matter), I will make every effort to not denigrate my patients and do my best to address their concerns. I believe that the anti-vaccination movement is one of the greatest threats to public health and with that belief, I will do my best to win over my patients with sound reasoning and compassion. At the end of the day, I respect my patient's autonomy to choose. But I will also kindly ask an anti-vaccine patient to find another doctor because I clearly am not getting through to them and perhaps another physician will be able to communicate in a way that gets through. I will not subscribe to any notion that the relatively few consequences of adverse vaccine events outweigh the benefits of vaccination to all of humanity or that we are better off without vaccines. I'm sorry that you had negative experiences with your healthcare provider and vaccines but we would all have many more bad experiences without them. I hope you reported the event to the CDC (vaers.hhs.gov/).

@@nerdalert1496 I'm going to be strong with you here and I hope I don't offend you , but I feel I have to to jolt you out of your blindness. People often talk the talk of wanting to understand vaccine hesitancy but when it comes down to it they are not open minded about why? I understand that to embrace a more disturbing truth might have career implications for you and create huge cognitive dissonance , but that won't stop people being hurt by vaccines. Any health care treatment that has brain damage or death (on the MMR insert) as a possible consequence HAS to have attached to it the right to refuse , yes? Your primary concern is to your patient first not to some wider public heath agenda. As a Doctor you should not be proposing to me that my child might be set on fire to keep others warm. That's not acceptable in the 21st century. You can't participate in a grand game of russian roulette with children and call yourself a doctor , knowing that one of the perfectly healthy babies you inject could be killed by your injection. Knowing that if that happens the poor parent can't even sue. I'm telling you straight. We do not know the full extent of vaccine injuries and deaths. The other problem is that surely you know that the vaccine schedule has not been tested by a double blind inert placebo trial , therefore the science is not there to support claims of safety and "not causing autism" . Vaers suffers from under reporting , like any passive surveillance system and SIDS is discounted as possible vaccine death without an alternative explanation (apart from the idea that the parents themselves might be guilty of baby shaking). And how would you have convinced me to give my second child the same vaccines after my first child had been injured? The case of Hannah Poling showed that severe vaccine damage can be related to mitochondrial disorder , but how many kids are tested for this? It's a disgrace. Chris Exleys research shows that aluminium in vaccines can be potentially linked to autism but his research is ignored. @Catherine Hazur I agree. I think there's a variety of reasons why the truth is being obscured , not least , fear of disease , which I understand to an extent but it's not an excuse any more for being disingenuous about safety. Maybe in the 1700s or 1800s but this is the 21st century and if large numbers of parents are saying there's a big problem then mocking them and dismissing them is not acceptable in a modern democracy. I mean they are not even investigating to potential effects of multiple vaccines in one visit. DTaP MMR Hep B , Flu (+aluminium) into a young baby all with no debate over whether it's safe or not? And they call anti vaxxers crazy....tsk tsk.

@@tigey2003 in fairness to the vaccinepapers site, not everything they post is garbage. Sometimes they scrape PDFs of copyrighted journal articles from behind paywalls and host them on their site for free.

Dr.David Epstein played it really well. Although,I do find one peculiar thing about his stories,1.One of The AntiVax mom said Her child had Seizures 2.The Other AntiVax mom said she herself developed arthritis at a young age and claimed it was impossible to get arthritis at young age. As a Doctor,the first rebuttal to such a claim would be JIA or Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. Now when Dr.David came up with his story,his Daughter had Both the conditions,i.e Epilepsy and JIA.. I'm sorry I didn't mean Disrespect to Dr.David be has been great in the video As a young physician I was impressed by his composure.

I honestly don't see what's the issue here. So many people are bashing anti-vaxx people. For what? Cuz they have different opinion? I see so many comments callimg anti-vaxx people uneducated. You do know that there are anti- vaxx doctors? Oh, but they're probably "uneducated" as well right? To me, I'm never getting vaccinated, or letting my kid get vaccinations becaise of the multiple side effects. But apparently since anti-vax people are stating facts to uphold their opinion means they're uneducated. I honestly wouldn't risk getting vaccinated when there are so any other ways to help prevent yourself from getting sick. The lady said that she was anti-vax because she had a bad experience. What so wrong about that? Take this analogy: You decide to drink alcohol. You drink some and you get nauseous or sick. Won't you be more cautious about drinking after that? Or what if you walk down the street and you're attacked by a dog. Won't you be somewhat afraid of dogs after your experience? I dont believe in vaccinations because of the many side effects that they can cause and that there are many other options to prevent getting sick. I'm not saying that others shouldn't be vaccinated, but I just have a huge problem with people bashing and insulting anti-vax people. I see so many people saying that anti-vaxx people are ignorant and don't listen, but all of you pro-vaxx people in the comment section are more ignorant then the anti-vaxx people.
