Hi Dr .Williams! In my History and English personal statement I've written about only 4 books and 1 article but I've discussed my thoughts about them in detail. Is this acceptable or are the admissions tutors looking for more mentions of books and articles. Also, is there a standard way of concluding the personal statement?
@JesusCollegeOxford1571Ай бұрын
There's no expected number of books/articles, and your thoughts are more valuable than a shopping list. There's no standard conclusion, so you could simply echo the opening line in your closing line.

Hi! Thanks for this video, but I have a different question about applying. Can we use abbreviations in the personal statement? These are common things, like GPB for Pound Sterling, IB for International Baccalaureate, and km for Kilometers?
@JesusCollegeOxford1571Ай бұрын
Yes, those sorts of widely used initialisms are fine. GDP is another example, where we wouldn't expect you to say gross domestic product.

@@JesusCollegeOxford1571 Thanks! I have another question: I had signed up for one of the Oxford webinars “Applying to Oxford: Understanding Oxford interviews (an academic's perspective)” but missed it due to noting the time down wrong. I wanted to ask if this would be noted against my name/ a negative factor at admissions? I know in America they tend to track demonstrated interest, and wanted to know if that’s a thing at Oxford/ in the UK?
@JesusCollegeOxford1571Ай бұрын
Don’t worry about that. We don’t track attendance at such events.

Does Oxford verify references for applicants who are applying independently or who have extenuating circumstances such as by phoning the doctor or contacting the referee etc?
@janeeire2439Ай бұрын
Something that I find very attractive about Oxford is the fact that there are tutorials with small class sizes (2-4 students). However, I was looking at some colleges for the subject I want to apply for and apparently colleges typically admit 8 students for that subject a year. Does this mean there would be 8 students in my tutorials as opposed to 2-4?
@JesusCollegeOxford1571Ай бұрын
No. The cohort of 8 would be split into tutorial groups of 2-4.
@krishnagopalsrivastava2084Ай бұрын
My referee told me that they have submitted their reference without the predicted grades as there wasn't any box available for them to type predicted grades in? Is there a way my predicted grades can be passed on to universities, including Oxford?
@JesusCollegeOxford1571Ай бұрын
You should be able to include predicted grades on UCAS, but contact the college admissions officer at the college you’re applying to if not.

I found it very interesting how she travelled home. Is that allowed during term time? Could a student if they wanted to keep travelling home or spend nights at home so long as they weren’t missing lectures during term time or is there a certain limit to how much time students can spend outside of Oxford?
@JesusCollegeOxford1571Ай бұрын
Students could live at home if they wished, provided they didn't miss any contact hours.

as a prospective student, a quesiton ive always had was how open r college-specific facilities to students from other colleges? like could u bring in a friend from outside the college? etc
@JesusCollegeOxford1571Ай бұрын
Some facilities are open. You could bring friends from other colleges to the college bar, for example. But you couldn't bring someone to our college gym.

Hi! I just wanted to say that i greatly admire life at Oxford, i want to add that there are also no courses on your website that relate to interior design and architecture. I know it would be a lot of hard work but could you please add it into the list of other subjects to study. It would be so nice for me and other people to study our dream career in Oxford Thank you for reading😊

It might be worth checking out Cambridge, it’s quite similar to Oxford in terms of teaching and being a collegiate university, and they have an architecture as well as some design courses
