@davidsnyder6527
@davidsnyder6527 3 жыл бұрын
Only him and Stokley knew that the signal they used was for a route that they used before... Corner route. This time, for this game... it was meant to be a fake cut towards the corner then a cut back to the inside. Peyton knew that if the Chargers had studied his audibles and signals enough they would see his "signal" to Stokley with his hand motion and THINK a corner route was coming 100%. It worked perfectly and Stokley was wide open for the record breaker. That is how MUCH Peyton put into every game, every practice, every play with his studying and work ethic and trying to play a game of chess here. These stories about single plays that you come across now that he has been retired are AMAZING once you hear someone tell it then watch the play via highlights. GO COLTS!

2004 Chargers Skill Position Roster: Brees, Rivers, Tomlinson, Michael Turner, (soon to be Darren Sproles), Antonio Gates, Eric Parker, Keenan McCardell, Wes Welker. More talent than they ever knew what to do with. Shipped most of it out before its prime. Never made a Superbowl. Hard to watch this team without feeling like we missed something special. I bet this game had more offensive talent between these two teams than any game all time. Just a guess but it's something to think about.

I'm still not sure what San Diego was doing punting the ball up 8 with 10 minutes to go from the 35. Kaeding was 3-for-5 on kicks from 50+ yards during the season, and had hit a 50-yarder earlier in the game. He'd kicked a 53-yarder in a dome in Atlanta earlier in the year. Why San Diego didn't try to go up two scores there is beyond me.

Manning's o-line was getting murdered all day, yet heed an absolute masterclass 2 drives. The one for the record and to tie it in regulation, and the winner in OT. He was the absolute best QB of all-time. There is no debate. Rings are a franchise thing, NOT an individual player thing. SIDE NOTE: The Chargers were always a bit of a cryptonite for his Colts teams (not so much his Broncos). The Chargers could always blow up the Colts o-line, and the Colts defense couldn't get off the field. Even when they had backup Billy Volek at QB in the playoff game, the Colts defense gave up something like 40 minutes of time of possession. Manning was always in impossible situations like that, but the mouth-breathers just cried choke.

Peyton Manning 2004-2009 According to Colts owner Jim Irsay, former Colts general manager Bill Polian was "at wit's end" as he tried to sign Manning to a new contract, when the subject of trading Manning was brought up. Polian said, “We need to trade Peyton; we can get a bunch of defensive players and become like Tampa Bay or Baltimore.” Irsay said no. “Understand something, Bill, we are not trading Peyton Manning, period,’’ Irsay recalled telling the former team president. The Colts eventually signed Manning to a $99.2 million contract with $34.5 million guaranteed. But Polian wasn’t totally insane to suggest dealing Manning. Through 6 seasons he’d had 3 All-Pro Campaigns (1999, 2000, 2003) & 3 inconsistent/turnover plagued campaigns (1998, 2001, 2002). His 1st MVP had come on a contract year when he was playing on the franchise tag. Many inconsistent players have had big years in contract seasons, only to come crashing down to earth once they get the contract. Irsay was taking a bit of a risk by believing in Peyton; especially given how badly his last two playoff seasons had ended (41-0 vs Jets, 4 INTs in the Title Game vs New England) In the 6 seasons after he signed the contract, Peyton Manning only had one stretch of time in which he played through injury. Manning had surgery to remove an infected bursa sac in his left knee prior to the start of the 2008 season. Manning, who wore a knee brace due to problems since he was in college, sat out all four preseason games and missed most of training camp. He was only able to practice 2 days a week for the 1st 7 weeks & the Colts started the 2008 season at 3-4. In all of his other starts over those 6 seasons: 72-10 W-L Record (87.8% winning %) 1,882 completions 2,805 attempts (67.1% completion rate) 22,887 yards (4,591 yards per season) 287.0 YPG 8.2 YPA 188 TD Passes (37-38 TD passes per season) 2.36 TD Passes per Game 6.7% TD% 62 INTs (12 INTs per season) 0.75 INTs per Game 2.2% INT% 105.1 Passer Rating 22-9 W-L Record on Game-Winning Drives (71.0% winning %) 16-6 W-L Record on 4th Qtr. Comebacks (72.7% winning %) There’s a reason Bill Bellichick went for it on 4th & 2.

I'm not saying he wasn't amazing and isn't a very deserving HOF but Manning LITERALLY had some of the best WRs the league had at the time every team he was on. Every team. He had it a lot easier on offense than most for most of his career which DEFINITELY added to his stats

1 year old comment and I’m still gonna reply to tell you how wrong you are. Manning put up great numbers with average looking receivers. You know damn fucking well that Wayne and Harrison were not built like Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson, etc. They were not going to out run or out jump you. The Colts offense was all about timing and precision. Manning never had a TE like Rob Gronkawski or Travis Kelce. Many of Peyton’s receivers had their best seasons with him and didn’t come close to replicating that when playing with other QBs.
