Fun fact: this game was the beginning of the end for Cincy's mid 00's era. They had 9 players arrested over time, including the one they called "the next Ray Lewis" aka Odell Thurman, who never got to see the field after his first suspension. as a diehard fan of the bengals, and carson palmer, this game was incredible to watch live, but such a massive example of 2005-2009 of the horror's that was rooting for this bengal squad. an incredible roster, and so much potential, but they just couldn't execute in the clutch. looking back to that time, i was a fan with every excuse in the book. but so many years later, its easy to see why we didn't win. diva receiver's, ownership that wasn't willing to pay for quality guys, and the wrong coaching staff. i will always have a place in my heart for marvin lewis, but rarely did they have a good defense that could win a game by stopping opponents. rarely do you win by just scoring more points.

I remember coming back from church as a die hard, 11 year old charger fan after hearing we were losing pretty bad. My and my family were sad and needed the win at the time (because everyone was 6-2 & denver didnt collapse yet) then we witnessed the charger power to win the game. What a memory, the only time in my life when my football team was the clear #1 team in the nfl & widely considered the superbowl favorite juggernaut after the regular season ended @ 14-2. Such a good feeling. I cried as a kid when we lost to NE the way we did. Such a close close game and we played our ass off & were visibly the better team. But thats football, NE choked a 21 point lead to INDY (a team we OWNED) the following week
@archmage7813 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that was definitely your year to win the super bowl because that was one of the worst Patriots and colts teams. Also, the bears were a joke that year. Was not choke the game away against the Patriots and the playoffs, but of course they choked the game away in the playoffs.

@@archmage7813up. I have the entire divisional game vs NE. It's so painful to watch, we looked like the better team, but when you mix bradys good luck and the chargers bad luck & historically bad special teams...you get a "choke". Oh this game! I was nine months pregnant and had Tivoed (recorded) the game to watch late Sunday night. I felt some cramping, the early pangs of labor. But I thought I could just fast-forward through commercials and catch the highlights. Insert sounds of Tivo's "bleep bloop"s and my labored breathing as I start to feel the contractions come on stronger. But there weren't just two or three highlights. Once I saw the Chargers get some points on the board, I had to keep watching. And then they scored more, and more. An hour later I'm on the way to hospital feeling VERY uncomfortable. But we made it on time and our son was born early morning on the 13th, his due date. Nice win, Chargers! And nice to see LT and Rivers.

This is the middle of the golden era of the NFL. I’d say 2003-2012 was peak NFL. Running back wasn’t devalued yet. Defenses could play still and hit. Europe games weren’t a thing. You had prolific safeties and linebackers still. The QB rookie wage scale wasn’t a thing where you could have a mid QB like Purdy have an all star team around him lol. I also felt receiver at the top 10 was more prolific then it is now. Same with QB.
