I have so many comments about this video. 1st I am glade you decided to do the video. 2nd most people don't realize what an amazing history Poland has. 3rd I love the food of Poland. I am not Polish but I lived with a Polish American family for 2 years & had so many wonder meals & visited so many Polish markets for grocery shopping. Regrettably I don't think I will ever get to visit Poland but it has a special place for me.

Hi Karin. Just found your channel today with your x100v breakup. Really enjoyed this polish trip down memory lane. I was in krakow about 10 years ago and remember the castle ramp and many of the streets you shot in. Loved the roller skate shot. The one with the nun had an echo of a Cartier B well known image - Where he has many fence posts and figures scattered across the image. I liked the colours in the ultra max shot of the man and pigeon. And your simple composition of the flowers near the corner on the cobbles. Such a great eye for composition. Had a look at your website today and was blown away with the images!

Karin, I really enjoy your experiences and photography. This video was no exception. I like photographing people, however, I despise taking posed pictures. I'm also someone who has had a couple bad experiences which unfortunately resulted in me leaving photography for a few years. Street photography is very free flowing and mostly kind of candid. I think that's why viewing it here appeals to me. Even though I may not rush out the door to try it after watching a good video, it's still inspiring me. It's taught me about observation and not just seeing. Most of us are fortunate and able to see, however, not everyone observes. So with that segway, I'm going to comment on questions you asked at the end of this video. I like going out with a photo buddy to take pictures. I enjoy seeing what another phtographer sees when we're at the same location. This could be interpreted as me being competitive, however, that's not my intent. I potentially see what I missed from a subject. It helps me learn and grow or it allows me to help my friend in the same way. As someone looking to find my "eye," this is very helpful while being fun at the same time. In the end, it's about the journey and not only the visit or event.

Thank you so much for your comment, I appreciate it a lot! Yes, street photography, especially candid photography can result in some resistance. For me it's kind of part of the game and I usually try to be open about what I do and be open for a conversation. But I get that bad experiences can keep you away from shooting. Thanks for sharing your experience and your take, that is really interesting! I also find it really interesting to observe how two photographers usually never capture the same photos in the same scene but still have their own perspective and take on things. Always a lot to learn from being out there in company!

All this time watching your channel I kept thinking that Majoka is not a common german last name and wondered if you were polish, now I know :) Kraków's Stare Miasto is a beautiful place for street photography, unfortunately, when I was there it was winter and at night (11:30pm or so) the place was pretty empty and couldn't enter St Mary Basilica either, I have an excuse to go back! Dzięki!

Interesting because Majoka is presumably not a typical Polish last name either. :) Oh yes, I feel you, winter seems to be a hard time for street photography pretty much everywhere. Hope you will have the chance to get back to Kraków again during spring or summer. ☺️

I didn't know about the finger trick for calculating sun set. I'll definitely have to take note of it and try it out. As for doing street photography, I always like going with somebody else as it gives me a better protection against angry pedestrians. And besides, it can make the boring parts more fun.

I love when Poland shows up in your videos, I've been learning the language the past couple of years and I don't know anyone who speaks Polish so I have to travel there to get an idea of how it's going haha. It's always exciting to get there and realize that I understand more, although speaking is another story. Also with you on the cat thing, it is 100% the reason I ordered from Catlabs and they include fun stickers with orders, might have to give this Kiki Pan stuff a try if only for that adorable box....

Respect to you for learning Polish! It is a really difficult language, so I really admire people who learn it on their own. Must be really reassuring though that you understand quite a lot! :) Hahaha, cats make me so happy and everything cat themed does so too. Even though I probably won't buy another roll of Kiki Pan, I kept the box for decoration. 😬

@@KarinMajoka Ich fand beide Städte vom fotografischen her sehr interessant. Habe, ehrlich gesagt, nicht so viel Erfahrung mit dem Land Polen. Ich hatte u.a. auch polnische Freunde in der Grundschulzeit. Das einzige was hängengeblieben ist, dass die Familien aus Polen bzw. aus dem Osten Europas viel gastfreundlicher waren. Wenn ich zum Spielen bei deutschen Freunden war und es war Abendessen-Zeit musste ich immer im Wohnzimmer warten bis ich abgeholt wurde. Bei meinen polnischen Freunden durfte ich immer mitessen :D :D

Hi Karin, really like you video's, photo's and love your Titanium M6. Your doing well shooing black&white. Wonder why you don't shoot higher contrast B&W? Is it your personal preference to shoot like this? Maybe this T-Max 100 iso film is also not giving a high contrast look. HP5 is great for contrast by the way.

enjoyed the vid. i hope i can offer a helpful critique, try putting the subject somewhere not in or near the center of frame. practice seeing the image in its entirety rather than just worrying about the subject or the point on which you focus. once i got my head around this concept, my photography really improved. set the lens to f/11 and don't concern yourself with focus, just see the *entire* image.. works quite well.

Great video Karin! Brilliant you got to connect with subjects in Polish. How do you find using the M6 viewfinder with glasses? It’s so small - can you see the full frame? Thanks!

I had a M6 for some years and I'd say that it depends on which lens you are using. 50mm works fine. 35mm is a challenge and 28mm was not really usable for me, because I was never able to see the full frame of the image.

Thanks for the comments you two! :) I agree with Dimitrij for the most part. I have the 0.72 viewfinder magnification and it works well with a 35mm lens and glasses. Without glasses it would be a bit more comfortable even, but it works for me. 28mm? Not so much.

Kikipan is just another expensive rebranding of Agfa Aviphot 200, so made in Belgium. The comment about old polish (or Czech) people not speaking English, my parents always said to start in English, so they know they are not German. Than you can speak German with them. Ofcourse times change, more people speak English and I think the hate against Germans is less too. Usually I go out to take pictures alone. Single and I know not so many people that like photography as well. From time to time I try to attend photowalks or events, like two weeks ago a portrait workshop at Khrome. In the Netherlands unfortunately not so much is organised. But the way, you said photowalks in a smaller place do work as well, so what about one in Münster 😆 Do you often go out alone with the camera, or will your partner join and walk around places together? I don't really know if my style of photography is considered street photography, there are not always people in the picture and they will usually not be the main subject. Therefore I don't know if I can properly answer the question how I do street photography, but my approach remains look like yours: walking around, drinking or eating something and then I go on. How much time I spent depends on how much time I have, can be the whole day or some hours. And if I'm in a new place I'll combine it with going to see things I want to see. For example in Riga some time ago, I walked to the national library for the Panorama place, but took pictures on my way going there.

It's definitely not Aviphot. It's made in Germany so it's almost certainly one of Orwo cine stocks, and the grain fits with that - it's much grainier than Aviphot under any name. I've used both myself and the difference is very clear.

I’m new to your channel and am curious to know if you develop your own film. I recently shot my first roll of film in 20+ years. After buying the film and having it developed is was $40.00 US for 24 exposures….

Welcome to the channel and thank you so much for tuning in! :) I develop 90% of my film myself, both color and black and white. For KZbin videos I often send film to a lab because I sometimes need the images a bit faster as if I would dev and scan myself. But self development is way cheaper and also way more fun. 40$ for a roll of film sounds like a rip-off though, here it's like 10-15€ for development and scan per roll.

I live in Los Angeles so prices are relative. However the processing labs provide scans which makes the film development even more senseless…. At any rate, I enjoy your channel and wish you much success.

As someone who has also returned to film after 20+ years I've learned so much. I totally agree with Karin that $40 USD is too much but not out of the question depending on how you proceed. Costs and traps abound. It really starts with how and where you buy your film. I buy from my local camera store and right away that can save as much as $5-$10USD for shipping. Thankfully in the US we don't have VAT although we do have varying degrees of tax applied to our purchases. Some labs charge a few dollars more for processing b&w versus colour. Some charge for scanning, some have different levels of scanning, each of which has it's own individual charge. Some include "free" postage which isn't really free as you're paying for it included with the processing. Most labs charge to return your negatives. Unless you're having prints made along with processing, it costs the same to have 24 or 36 exposure film processed. Don't EVER buy film on Amazon! It's way overpriced! There's a consumer learinging curve without even shooting a single frame and I haven't even touched scanning it yourself with a digital camera. My apologies Karin. I'm not attempting to hijack your post. I'm only attempting to help a community member who is in a situation I was in a couple years ago when I returned to film a couple years ago. I would be sad to see anyone try their first roll of film and give up because they paid so much for the experience. Photography isn't what I'd call a cheap hobby or passion but it doesn't have to be unafforadable.

Haha, terrible is a strong word, but I agree for the most part. For street photography it was barely usable but for something more abstract or graphic it could work well. :)
