Hehe literally old school Carey because if it wasn't just a slip of the tongue when he said, "There's a movie coming out called Ready Player One" this vid must've been made in around 2017. 😁

I'm 84 now, and I lived in a remote part of Arizona until I was 12. In the early 1950s, we didn't have extra quarters to play and no arcades nearby, so those games meant very little to me. But I now regret giving away a complete Commodore 64, which I saved and moved three times over 30 years. Bummer.

Just buy another they are not that expensive. Or use emulation on a PC. There is emulation for literally _everything_ and every game you could possibly imagine.

I am roughly 30 years or so behind you and can still remember my Dad giving us kids the ORIGINAL Atari game station! We had Space Invaders and Ping Pong. So we used to spend Saturdays after chores were done having family game contests. We even got into betting 25 or 50 cents of our allowance against each other. Step Mom used to keep track of moving the money from one kids stack to the others as the battles went on and even heated up to some REAL smack talking! North Carolina in the early 80's was a literal guessing game of how a day would turn out between weather and the competition. I took a little off my step-sister and my brother. Then would go ride my bike for a while. Christmas Day 1983 was the day all 6 family members got new bikes! Dad, step Mom, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The 6 of us put 10 miles on those things as a family in the first 3 hours. My brother and I used to get into bike tag. We both needed new back tires from trying to stop real fast so the other would go shooting by and hopefully miss the tag. I can't count the number of collisions and crashes and wipe outs we had! Fortunately no ER visits or broken bones.

I turned an all-in-one computer into an all-purpose emulation station, by installing a drive with Recalbox on it and adding an arcade stick I bought during the pandemic. It cost me $20 and some setup time. Best part is that it's on a TV mount that can be set either horizontally or vertically, depending on my mood.

The X-in-1 jamma boards are running emulation too, mostly with weak arm processors. So with those you don't get additional accuracy over regular mame - you just get convenience and legitimacy.
@delsarcade4 күн бұрын
@@AAjax Agreed 💯. I would say just convenience for the xx-in-1 PCBs. Most people won't notice the sound issues and incorrectly emulated games. However, once you play the real arcade games, side-by-side they are awful. They also have terrible controller lag, especially when using an LCD on the VGA port. FPGA is the way now.
@ghostbombl80344 күн бұрын
@@AAjax I like my old mame .122 pluss that is mame front end that you can set each game individually from bit map size to adjust my pixels to my scanline generator to 9ver clocking original slowdowns like in dd.Roach arch is another top front end.

A 4-way joystick is needed for many of the old classics like Pacman, Donkey Kong and Burgertime. You can use an 8-way joystick but, hitting diagonal directions ruins the experience it for me.

Omg omg OMG😮 I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS, I’m going to calm my nerves, besides subscribing to your channel, I never knew how clearly and perfectly regular games could be without emulation or modding anything, quick question tho, can Donkey Kong still do the secret warp thingy? If so then I want to try this as soon as possible!

One of my wife´s coworkers gave me an old pentium 4 pc she found in her closet. Upgraded the ram to 1 gb and the HD from 40 to 160 gb using parts I had laying around for a long time. My original plan was to use this computer as the brains for an home arcade setup. However I was curious about the power draw. Using a Kill a watt found out that this pentium 4 computer was drawing 80 watts while idling. So now, instead I use it time to time to recover files and image floppies, cds and dvds. Instead Im going to use an old android tv box that draws 5 watts. Also has the advantage that it is smaller and only weighs a fraction in comparison to the full pentium 4 tower.

I can tell you from experience that trying to have a classic arcade cabinet with all original hardware is a giant, unreliable, money pit. I bought an Asteroids Deluxe and Battlezone on the cheap. I spent almost $1000 getting the game boards repaired. They ran for a few years and now both X-Y monitors are broken.

So you're not recommending buying 45 year old tech? That its not reliable? Is that what you are saying?

I've never seen your channel, but a bit confused about the intro. I've been in PC repair for almost 40 years, if I want to punish an old Dell board, I just make it run Windows 10. They don't deserve the mercy of a quick hammer death.

Even more amusing are the modern accessories for the Commodore64 that are themselves leagues more powerful than the C64. I have a "KungFu Flash" cartridge for mine that loads floppy disk, tape and cartridge images from a microSD card, and the microcontroller in it is easily 1000-1500 times more powerful as the MOS 6510 processor in the C64.
