Those TX90 sets were among my favourites, though Hitachi and Scandinavian sets are my main interest.

Its the isolation transformer in those fergusons that can be annoying in those sets. They are permanently connected across the mains unless withdrawal of mains plug. People left them plugged in, the laminents would come loose, they're welded together so you cannot tighten them up to stop the buzz. Cracking picture performance though.

Hi Ojnoj and Michael, you two are great together, its amazing how much stuff Michael has in his shop, in relation to the lcd panel being glued in, i take off the plastic frame the lcd is glued to, just carefully go around and unclip the tabs then lift off the frame with lcd still attached, ive done that many times without incident, i wouldnt like to try and separate them as they are so easily cracked.

I am listening to this via a Texan amplifier that I built about 50 years ago. I has had many sets of output transistors and a modern flat screen tv blew up the original 748s (DC coupling, now has double cross coupled diodes for protection). i checked every component before I built it (kit from Henry's Radio), both of the 10pF capacitors were shorted (748 compensation), so that is my hot tip. good luck with the restoration, Steve.

Anorher interesting tour of Michael's emporium of electronics , amazing that he has gathered so many things. The Tatung 21" tv in the wood cabinet would be a tuv9731 i think with the 170 chassis think i still have a genuine remote for that tv . Not sure why ive kept it but im a bit of a hoarder and loathe to through stuff away if it still works

That 2nd CB was a DNT. Probably the 40 channel version, there was a lot of the 26 channel versions out there. I seem to remember my DNT developted a fault and stopped working as a 40, with 2 channels heard at the same time and I was getting told each time I was talking on that night net I could be heard on 2 channels at the same time too. I didn't have the tools to check this.

Hi Jon Joe and Michael,I think in the EU warranty has to be 2 years, has it slid to 12 months in the UK? Looking round Michael's workshop I'm reminded very much of Sendz Components in Southend in the 80's! He needs one of those blue plaques on the wall outside, National Trust TV heritage site.. Channel 4 could come and film the inauguration!!

18 month old tv is knackered, my Panasonic plasma 19 years old and still going strong daily use, they must be turning out real crap these days

I was seeing if you could point me in the right direction, I have a 1989 Emerson, the bottom 3/4 works fine but the top quarter is dark, but when I turn off the tv the whole screen will work before turning off
