"Big Iron" was written and performed by Marty Robbins, released back in the late '50s. It's what I term a "western" song, not to be confused with "country and western", which is a whole other genre. As Geoff noted in his description for the video, "what do you do with a song that has 8 verses and a 5 word chorus?" So as he's done in the past, he added some music and lyrics to make the song a little less repetitive. And several of the places where Mortius stopped and replayed and commented on the song were in the places where that additional music came in. Geoff even marked them for us: every time you hear a line that starts with the words "Big Iron", that line (and its music) were added by Geoff to the original song.

"Big Iron" is fun. But "Imagine" is like sinking into a hot bath at just the right temperature. And his high notes are like a chilled, refreshing, sweet glass of Moscato. 💙

Big Iron was done by Marty Robbins and for me it was about 1963 when I first heard it. Thanks for the double feature. Imagine was an important message when John Lennon did it but just as pertinent today. Just beautiful and Geoff did such a gorgeous version. I could listen to it all day.

I bought new noise cancelling headphones a couple of months ago for a long haul flight at the start of the month and forgot that I picked that specific pair for their bass quality and just about disintegrated when Unshaken came on my shuffle on the plane! It’s been a whole playlist of Geoff/Avi/Tim/Elliott and TBG on rotation since picking up stuff I’d never properly heard previously. Ugh good headphones make such a huge difference! ❤

The original song 'Big Iron' wasn't that long. Geoff added in sections and I'd say he did a great job. As for 'Imagine' when I saw he'd covered it, I just went to listen because there was absolutely no way it wasn't going to be great. It's nice seeing and hearing him playing on a decent piano as well.

Imagine is one of those songs that I can appreciate its musicality, but I just can't stand the song. I love Geoff's talent and skill in both of these songs, but I won't listen to Imagine again. I've realized that most of Geoff's music is "just missed the playlist" for me, they're all good, but not something I want to listen to on a regular basis.
