A lot of people are kinda blaming the pilots that they could have put reverse thrusts and all. Yes, your points are all right. But sometimes, the points you mentioned are pretty wrong. I will explain. For the people who are saying that the reverse thrust could have been enabled, the RJ 100 does not have Reverse Thrust, according to my research. The reason why is because of the perceived reduced effectiveness of predicting conditions. For the people who wanted to know how, the runway was wet because of some cleaning. After the plane landed, because of hydro planning, the plane is keep on slipping and slipping. The breaks which they tried were failed due to hydroplanning. Any mistakes or any new points, please let me know. :). I am welcome with new points or mistakes
@PupSentinel2 жыл бұрын
I think these points all make great sense. However, I'm watching this and yelling at them to just power on, take off and go around! Why didn't they just do that? As soon as the warning for no spoilers came on, with no reverse thrust on that airplane, and a wet runway, it's probably best to just go around. If I've used up over 2/3's of the runway and I'm still at 80knots, I'd say that it's probably best to power on and go around! He shouldn't be trying to swerve to slow down hoping it'll work and he'll stop in time. The pilots played a big part in this accident.
@CaptainJadenAR2 жыл бұрын
@@PupSentinel, that one, of course, I agree.
@PupSentinel2 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainJadenAR Now after reading about the accident on Wikipedia, the plane was apparently past the point of no return by the time the captain applied full emergency braking, disabling the plane's ABS, and was too slow to attempt to take off again. I still believe that the pilots should've taken off when they realized their spoilers were not functioning instead of trying to salvage the landing.
@CaptainJadenAR2 жыл бұрын
@@PupSentinel, indeed. I don't blame many pilots a lot, but yeah, they could have gone around.
@gregorchitchian91312 жыл бұрын
@@PupSentinel well in order to take off you need high speed. They could run out of runway before they could safely take off. And second of all not the fact that the spoilers would work from second attempt. It's bad that this type of plane has no thrust reverse.

Its not pilot error, The spoilers didn’t come out. The BAe 146 can land without spoilers so the reason why it ran off the runway was hydroplaning.

Hydro planning. Because of the wet runway, The BAe 146 can’t stop much. The more wet the runway is, the less the plane’s stopping performance
@CadetAlex2 жыл бұрын
@@kathy8770 I just figured it out, yah you where right
@JamieCrew2 жыл бұрын
Yes but you wrong, As the gear sensor recognizes ground contact its essential to deploy spoilers which in this case was not working. However as the pilots deploy the spoilers so early and assuming the early warning message of failed deployment they were easily able to go around even if they were half way on the runway due to there being no obstacles and a cliff drop in order to get airborne. So this is pilot error as they were already at 85 KIAS and could easily abort the landing and set an alternate arrival. According to your statement above you claim the BAE 146 cannot land without spoilers however that is only due to the airports runway length and its wet conditions. If they aborted they could easily choose another arrival airport.

I think that there could have been a malfunction with the spoilers that prevented the plane to come to a complete stop. How come that they didn't have thrust reverses?

thats how the plane was made.
@gregedwards10872 жыл бұрын
The BAE 146 / RJ 100 type aircraft are fitted with engines that are not equipped with reverse thrust capability, the spoilers dump lift and settle the aircraft weight onto the tarmac where its powerful brakes will bring the aircraft to a stop, the crew should have carried out a "Go around" getting the aircraft back into the air and sorting the problem before attempting another landing, standard procedure.

The spoilers dump all of the lift and the aircraft has all of its weight on the tarmac rather than the wings still producing lift, most commercial aircraft have spoilers that deploy automatically when the main gear touches down.
