A Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 for Christmas !
Join me on my first ride with Attila, my brand new Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450.
After a successful year, I decided to expand my garage to three motorcycles ( all REs, coincidentally ! ) and bought myself this beautiful Cloud Silver Guerrilla 450, which I am naming Attila the Guerrilla aka. Attila The Fun !
This was filmed the day after taking delivery of Attila and was my first proper ride, having only taken him to the petrol station down the road on delivery day.
In this video I show you the bike in more detail, focusing on the mods and accessories I chose to add and I give you my observations and first impressions of how the bike feels to ride.
If my first impression is anything to go by, then I am going to absolutely love this bike once the motor is run in and the weather warms up a bit.
Of course, at the end of the video, Ruby gets a "sossidge" and gives her opinion on the name that I have chosen for my new bike 😂
This week's "sossidges" were kindly sponsored by Steve, who has his very own wonderful KZbin channel, which you can check out here if you are not familiar with it :
‪@TheNorfolkThunderbolt‬
Thank you Steve !
Follow me on Instagram if you wish !

If you enjoy my videos or find them useful, you can now choose to say a very special thank you by buying me a coffee using my new Buy Me A Coffee page here :
www.buymeacoff...
A new feature, Super Thanks, has been activated on my channel and you can now also use that feature ( just look for the icon with the $ sign on it in every video ) to donate directly through this KZbin channel. KZbin will then add your kind donation to my monthly ad revenue automatically.
Needless to say that all proceeds will go towards improving the channel and enabling further exciting projects for the future.
Thank you for dropping by, watching my video and supporting my channel !
Cheers 👍🏻

P.S.
KZbin’s algorithm is also the most handsome algorithm I have ever seen and, if it wasn’t spoken for already, I would definitely want its keyword and viewer engagement based babies !!!!

😂 I know. RE probably came up with the ECO mode just for me and then I go and ignore it. I feel deeply ashamed James ! I probably wouldn't have bought the new tyres if they hadn't paid me for the Suzuki. As it was, it seemed like a no-brainer. Without that money burning a hole in my pocket I would almost certainly have been too tight not to wear out the CEATs first ! Found out today that the RE dealer is going to buy my Malaguti scooter too. That money will come in handy for a nice pair of RE bar end mirrors, the final accessory needed to make Attila perfect ! But after that James, it's back to being economical, I promise. Not sure I'll be using that ECO mode too often though ! 👹 Cheers James ! Keep spoiling that Mrs A ! Maybe take her for a day out to a KTM dealership while you still can ? 😛 Garry & Ruby

Hi Dave and Williers ! Happy New Year ! Don't worry about being behind Dave, as usual, you haven't missed very much 😂 Presumably you've been busy doing other things ? I gather that the weather there has been pretty miserable of late so probably not much riding being done. It's a bit of a struggle here at the moment too. It is very cold and the roads are often wet from the salt as it melts the early morning frost, so I'm only venturing out when I see that the roads have dried, which can take a while when the temperatures are so low. If the roads aren't dry tomorrow, I will take Norman out and film something. That's what I bought him for, to ride when I didn't want to risk the others. Of course, once I get back, I will try to scrub off as much of the salt as possible but I want to ride again, so I'll just have to risk it ! Have a great weekend Dave and Willers❤🐕 Stay warm and stay safe 🥶 Garry & Ruby 🐕

@@economicalrides Hi Garry and Ruby. Yes, Happy New Year to you both. I am just so far behind and I guess it is Christmas and the fact that there always seems to be so many videos to watch, which interest me. The weather here today (19th January) is very cold, no sign of the sun and feels damp, even though it hasn't rained for quite a few days. The roads here still have plenty of salt on, so I haven't ridden Kylie or Ruby for nearly two weeks. I've only had a couple of rides on each bike, since Christmas. Roll on Spring. I hope you managed to do a ride today and didn't get Norman too salty. Looking forward to any videos of yours, whenever I get a chance to look at them. I always watch all of them. Take care you two. I managed to keep calm and figure out the best way to get out of that situation without laying the bike down, which would have been a solution but obviously the last resort.. 👍 I hope that you get the odd dry riding day Dave. Hi Mark. Surprised to hear that it is taller than the MT but after the Himalayan 411 just about any bike feels nice and low to me 😂 I'm really happy with the Attila so far and can't wait to go for a proper long ride between Christmas and New Year, weather permitting. I am intrigued as to whether or not it will be comfortable for long periods. On my test rides, I thought that my legs were too scrunched up for long rides. But since riding mine, I am not really feeling that way at all. So it will be interesting to see how my legs feel after and hour or two. But my first impression is that it is probably going to be more comfortable than I first thought ! Cheers Mark. Ruby says you should keep visiting awesome dog monuments ! ❤🐕 Garry & Ruby

Thanks mate. Yes, it was a good punt by the dealer to get a silver base model in. The first time I tested their demo Guerrilla I said that the only one I would consider buying was the silver one. I thought that it would look smart in the metal and also I wouldn't have to have that TFT dash. Next time I walk in there, there is a Cloud Silver one parked next to the demo bike ! They obviously knew that my willpower would weaken but in reality it really did help, because I got to see this colour in real life before deciding. Not sure I would have bought it blind. But once you get it out into natural light, I think it looks even better. As you say, classy and understated. Perfect for me 😇 Slatternly ! Great word ! One I haven't heard for a while ! 😂 I think I know which version you are referring to 😛 I used the term "tart's handbag" to describe it. Not very woke, I know, but I'm old, deal with it 😛 Cheers mate, have a great Christmas. I'll get 500km on Attila before the New Year for sure. I am up to 160 already and only have another 220 to go before I have to take him to Almeria. The colour looks better in daylight than it did in the shop and the accessories have all done their part to make the bike look just a little bit more special. I can't set them to get a decent view and I know that the RE bar end mirrors are brilliant, because I have them on Buddy. So yes, I think the bar end mirrors will be ordered soon. Subscribed to your channel after watching Martin’s clip of your ride together (I’ve chatted to him a couple of times at a local classic bike meet and even a tiny cameo appearance in one of his vids). Glad to see this as Guerrilla is a bike I’m interested in. Love the colour of yours but I prefer the more techy display of the other variant as even if phone connectivity isn’t good I’ve already got a Beeline
@economicalrides
@economicalrides Ай бұрын
Hi ! Oh, so you go to that meet at the pub that Martin has been to on his channel a couple of times ? Which bike do you take to the meet at the moment ? With regard to the Guerrilla, I genuinely didn't like the TFT on the Himalayan 450 and other Guerrilla colours. When I rode the Himalayan it was summer and I didn't find the display easy to read in light or dark mode in certain lighting conditions. Instead of idiot lights ( LEDs ) you just get little icons popping up on the screen. I found the little green triangles telling you that you had the indicators on, particularly hard to spot. And then of course there is the flickering issue in the camera footage if you try to vlog your rides. I always maintained that it's a shame that you can't choose the analogue or digital dash, according to your preference, for all colours. Fortunately the silver bike looks great, so I was lucky. If the base model had been red or brown or something, I would have had a problem and possibly not bought a Guerrilla at all. Much like you now have the problem of liking the silver but preferring the digital dash. All I can say is that you are not missing out on much, other than the rev counter and possibly a temperature display, by going with the analogue dash. But on the plus side, the analogue dash gives you traditional idiot lights for all of the usual stuff, which are much easier to spot ! Good luck deciding. I have a Guerrilla ride coming to the channel next Tuesday. I am loving the Guerrilla so far. It is great fun for a sporty ride, handles beautifully and has almost double the power of the other two ! Cheers derbyshire and thanks for introducing yourself ! Garry

Hi Quenten, thanks mate, much appreciated ! Yes, really loving Attila so far and very happy with how he looks with all of his bits and pieces fitted. The only thing I might add at some point are some RE bar end mirrors because it is hard to get a decent rear view with the stock mirrors, however you set them. I forgot to mention that in this vlog. But no biggie. I would have probably wanted the bar end mirrors anyway, even just for aesthetic reasons. I'm sure they'll be added before too long ! I agree. He makes some nice noises. Blimey Ken, are you sure about that ? I would have been two years old in 1971 😂 Maybe it's about time you treated yourself to something new ? This is now my fourth new bike in three and a half years. I am very fortunate but already feeling rather blase about new bikes by now, evidently ! Funny, considering that I thought that the Meteor was going to be the last ever bike I bought, new or otherwise. Something definitely went wrong there ! I am saving a few of my 380 km ( before I have to go for the first service ) for the days between Christmas and the New Year because otherwise I will have used them all before Christmas and will have some days off but will be unable to ride it, which would be frustrating. So testing my willpower a bit at the moment. It is tempting to go for another ride but I will be kicking myself if I have no kilometres left for the week after Christmas ! Cheers Ken. Hi Simon, yes, I will definitely be taking Attila up there as soon as it is clean and dry enough to do so ! All new bikes have to visit Calar Alto ! The new Himalayan was not better than Norman IMO and it also vibrated too much at normal road speeds. I quickly realised that it wasn't going to be for me. I was expecting the Guerrilla to be the same, so wasn't really interested in it but after the test ride and realising that it had no vibration issues at all, suddenly I found myself considering it. The rest is history. The 411 for the trails and the Guerrilla for being a hooligan on the roads is a much better combination IMO. Hi Pete. Yes, I think that these bikes are going to be the performance sweet spot for twisty mountain roads. You can't really use the performance of anything much more powerful and of course they also give you more weight to lug about. I am hoping that the Guerrilla will turn out to be something like a baby Street Triple. If it can deliver that, then it will be the bargain of the century. I still remember how my Street Triple R felt and I think the Guerrilla has the potential to feel similar. But I will need to push it quite a bit harder before I can say that. Probably best to wait for warmer weather before getting too gung-ho with it ! But I certainly think that 40 hp is plenty on a twisty mountain road and it's a lot of fun having to work the gearbox.a bit to maintain progress. Should be a riot. I would have liked to have had the option of a Speed 400 but no real dealer support for me where I am. It is definitely another bike that seems to represent fantastic value ! Cheers Pete. Thanks Kevin. My viewers all seem to share my excellent taste 😊. Of course the Guerrilla isn't very retro, which is what most people expect of an RE, but once you get beyond that, as a sort of lightweight street fighter, I think they did a great job with the styling. This motor should really suit this type of bike, much better than it suits a bike like the new Himalayan IMO. The chassis feels so well sorted, I am sure that it can carry a lot of speed and lean angle without tying itself in knots. If it manages that, then it really will be like a mini Street Triple, which would be a wonderful thing. I think the Street Triple was just a bit too fast for these roads, it had tons of power. This 450 could prove to be the sweet spot for riding around here in an enthusiastic fashion, I reckon 🤞 I'm glad you like Attila and it will be fun getting to know him better in the coming months. Hi Timbo. Thanks. Yes, with the blocky CEAT tyres the Guerrilla would be fine on a smoothish trail. Bear in mind that the "sump guard" on this bike is normally just plastic. RE do an aluminium one for added protection as an accessory. I'd recommend getting that if you are planning on taking a Guerrilla off-road. The plastic one is likely to shatter the first time you bottom out ! Or alternatively just take it gently ! I was thinking of taking mine up a trail but to be honest, I don't really see the point. That is Norman's job and I don't see the point in getting Attila filthy when I don't have to 🙂 As I mention in this video, all of the vulnerable bits on this bike are painted, so I don't think the bike will suffer too much with winter use. The fasteners appear to be decent stainless steel as well. I think it would be a decent winter bike and should stay smart looking with regular washes. Keep the shiny bikes for sunny, warmer days ! Particularly with the Guerrilla currently being a bit of a bargain. you don't have a lot to lose by getting one. I think it is a lot of very nice bike for the money. Amazing to think that this bike was only €1000 more than my Meteor and even with the accessories €500 less than my Himalayan 411 ! It certainly feels like it should be the most expensive bike of the three ! Cheers Timbo, have a great Christmas ! Garry & Ruby

@economicalrides Ай бұрын
Hi Phil ! Well I'm "economical". No way would I bin tyres that I've paid for or donate them to the dealer ! There might well come a time when I can't afford expensive tyres, so worth having the CEATs there should I ever need them. I'm sure that they are fine, they have been on all of my other bikes, but just about everyone prefers their new tyres, once they've worn down their OEM CEATs. Other better known brands of tyre are probably "slightly" better in certain areas but the CEATs are a decent all-round tyre, not a problem and certainly don't need changing until they're worn or too old. I had the Suzuki money burning a hole in my pocket, so decided to change the tyres straight away. Without that money I would have probably ridden the CEATs until they needed replacing, as I usually do, no problem. Cheers Phil. I am happy to be in the Guerrilla gang at last ! Looking forward to getting the first service done at the beginning of the year and then having six whole months to really get to grips with the bike ! Happy Christmas etc. Garry & Ruby

@@economicalrides If they're taking up too much room in your garage, Gary, you can always send them over to me ........ for Christmas ☺😁 I've had quite a few bikes over the years but I'm so impressed with the handling of this Guerrilla that I will look to refit the same Ceats when these wear out. I'm sure that most of the good handling is down to the good geometry of the chassis and good 'springs', it's hard to know. A few years ago, I had a brand new Super Tenere 1200 with factory fitted slightly knobbly tyres and it handled like an absolute dream, loved it! When those tyres wore out I was talked into replacing them with a more expensive brand and more road biased set ........ absolute disaster!!!! The moral of the story in my case, is, if it aint broke, don't fix it! I will say though that the Ceat tyres on my Hunter 350 did tend to tram line a bit on groovy roads but the tyres on the Guerrilla don't do that at all, very sure footed. Anyway Gary, congratulations and welcome to the Guerrilla club! 😊 All the best, Phil

@@PAGallagher Well I can certainly recommend the RoadTecs Phil, you can't go wrong with them. The ride feels smoother and slightly more plush. They could even turn out to be easier to get hold of than the CEATs, when the time comes, who knows ? I'll let you know if I need a new home for my OEM tyres Phil, you can have first refusal 😛 You were dead right about being able to ride in a relaxed manner on this bike. My bike feels great at up to 50 mph, not noticing any vibrations AT ALL. It's just purring along with tons of power still in reserve. My bike seems to have less of a tendency to lug than the demo bike I tried, so I think I've got a good one ! Cheers Phil, Garry & Ruby

@PAGallagher Ай бұрын
@@economicalrides Well Gary, you might be right about availability of Ceat tyres, the tyre dealer/fitter I've been using for years doesn't stock them so I'll make a note of your new tyre recommendation. Yes, it sounds like you've got a perfectly formed Guerrilla, you're gonna have some good times on it once it's had it's first service. After it's first service, you can open it up to 6000 rpm which equates to 75 mph and, TBH, I rarely find the need to take mine much beyond 5000 rpm and it still hustles on at a fair lick round the twisties. And, 75 mph on a naked bike is plenty fast enough, I don't do any more than that on my XSR 900. So, it looks like 40 HP is all you really need ....... yay!!! 😁 Enjoy your new bike Gary, I'm excited for you 👍
@economicalrides
@economicalrides Ай бұрын
@@PAGallagher Thanks Phil. Yes, I think on twisty roads 40 HP is plenty and having to maybe work the gearbox a bit more than on a bigger bike just adds to the fun for me ! I was thinking the same. 6000 rpm as the new rev limit pretty much means that you can ride the bike however you like from then on, just avoiding revving it out. I don't imagine that too much more happens between 6000 rpm and 8000 rpm, so very little need to go there after 2000 km either. So in my own mind, yes, I was thinking that after the first service, I can ride the bike pretty much how I like, just avoiding getting close to the limiter until I've done the 2000 km. If 6000 rpm equates to 75 mph in top, then I can even comfortably take it on the motorway as soon as it's had that first oil change. Good to know because I'll probably be coming back via the motorway because the mountain pass is likely to be salty and/or icy at the beginning of January ! Excellent Phil. Good information and just confirms what I was thinking 👍 Really looking forward to some decent weather and all of the revs to play with ! Cheers Phil, Garry & Ruby

Hi Garry, finally got round to watching this as every time previously I just got interrupted. Just so busy here (18 videos scheduled over the festive period 😳) and lots of heavy stuff behind the scenes. So, I just wanted to watch this properly and not in bite size chunks. I'm glad to see you are enjoying the riding experience and I do like the colour, still not keen on that dash tho'. This is a bike that I am seriously considering, although if I had one, it would be Godzilla the Gorilla... Original or what? 😎 I'd be happy to just have Guerrilla content for the foreseeable 😄

But I've already booked it in for the 300 mile service on January 2nd, so will hopefully put those miles on it between Christmas and New Year and making videos and stuff ! Same here. Very busy. Lots of stuff to do for KZbin and I've only just finished preparing for Christmas. Unfortunately I haven't been able to watch your video yet but you are on my list. Hopefully I can watch a few videos tomorrow, once I get my own video finished. By the way, I'm not sure that I would bring out too many videos over the Christmas period because, in my experience, nobody watches them ! Understandable really. People have better things to do ! So Christmas is certainly not the best time to get a lot of views. Cheers Andy, Garry

These days I don't fancy going out if it's not going to be pleasant and even if I'm warm up top, if it's that cold, then probably my legs and feet are going to be freezing. Are you back riding now ? Yes, this is the colour I was thinking of getting before I got the hunter instead. I liked the tft, but the silver was the nicest colour by far, and the cheapness of it being the base model was a bonus. It's the same dash as on my hunter but I can't help with the overheating bit, obviously 😅

Hi Rob, I didn't like the TFT dash at all, it was often hard to read in the bright sunlight and the analogue dash has proper old school idiot lights, which are.a lot easier to see than icons on a screen. I imagine that the engine warning light will come on when the bike is running too hot or maybe TEMP will come up on the digital display. I'm sure that they will have built in something, given that this is their first LC motor. Hopefully I will never find out 🙂 Cheers Rob, enjoy your Hunter 👍 Garry & Ruby

Hi there. I think probably not. I don't think that button does anything at all with the engine running, only with the ignition on and the engine off. Certainly that is the case with the bikes with the digital dash. But I can try it next time I'm out and get back to you. I think it is unlikely though. I think the ECU is only "listening" for that button press when the engine isn't already running. Stay tuned and I'll let you know definitively because it would be interesting if the bikes with the analogue dash behave differently ! Cheers mate, Garry

Hi Oscar. I remembered to try this yesterday as I was putting the bike back in the garage. I can confirm that you can change modes with the bike in neutral, stationary but with the engine still running. That works fine. So when stopped in traffic, you can definitely change modes without having to switch the engine off. Not sure if it would work whilst the bike is in gear and moving but I will try to remember to try that next time I'm out. Although in reality there isn't really much need to change modes whilst riding. Much more likely that you'd want to switch into Eco mode once you come to a halt for the first time in city traffic and that is certainly possible ! Cheers Oscar, Garry & Ruby

When I looked at the Guerilla in Rennes the rear shock looked like the white power unit on my 690 Duke, that is the road you want for running in your new bike superb bumps and all. The only accessory that I would like to add now are the good old RE bar end mirrors again, because the OEM mirrors are a bit pants. However I set them, I am not getting much of a view and no view at all without moving my head. So bar ends are definitely in Attila's future but then he will be "done". I want to keep him clean and mean and not drape too may accessories all over him ! Good to hear that it's not just me who feels like the bike rides worse on CEAT tyres. I wasn't really sure but to me my bike rides smoother and plusher than the demo bike on the CEATs. I certainly don't regret the 300 EUR or whatever it was to buy and fit the tyres. Money well spent I reckon. Really looking forward to getting Attila run in for when the warmer weather arrives. I think Attila is going to be like a baby version of my Street Triple. Should be a riot ! Cheers you lot. Take care and have a happy Noel ! Garry & Ruby ❤🐕"I'm getting' treats for Christmas Chillers, saw me Dad hiding them in the cupboard ! Can't wait ! Hi Stefan. Funnily enough, the dealer called me on Tuesday and asked me if I had decided about selling the Malaguti. I'm guessing that they have a buyer or two already lined up. I managed to negotiate a price that is acceptable to me, so now they are going to buy Malcolm off me. As you say, he probably deserves to be used and abused by some spotty teenager and not being sat in the garage for 363 days of the year. Basically, after 14 years of ownership, I am getting back what I paid for him in the first place. Cheap motoring ! Doesn't seem to work like that with REs though, unfortunately. Hi Dave ! Thanks mate. Glad you like the new bike. As much as I am tempted to ride Attila every day at the moment, I am having to be strict with myself. Once I hit 380 km he needs to go for his first service. I'm at 170km already, so only have 210k left before I have to head off for Almería. Since I want to be able to ride him between Xmas and New Year, when I should have a few days off, I'm banned from riding him this week 😂 Fortunately all three bikes have a pretty distinct purpose. Buddy will be my bike for longer rides and relaxed exploration of new roads. Norman is mainly for the trails or multi-day trips, should I ever get to do one. And Attila is for the more local roads, my bike for a spirited blast when I am in the mood for a bit of mischief. I don't think I'll use him in place of Buddy at all. He is definitely my bike for getting stuff out of my system and possibly sharpening up my riding skills 👍 Take care Dave and love to the Exmouth crew.
