First thought: what a nice little game, just perfect for some quick sessions between ending work, taking care of the kids and going to sleep.... than I looked at the price. I`ll stay with FTL :)

It seems like it chose a tough set of influences to end up being...OK...next to. Costing the same as Battle Brothers, more than Darkest Dungeon, 3x FTL, and (at time of writing) only $7.25 less than XCOM 2 and WoTC is putting yourself in a pretty tough neighborhood. Doesn't seem broken or bad or anything; but running out of quirky charm somewhere between finishing the intro and starting to add some life to the animation and camera feels a solid price bracket lower than this lands. I realize that the other titles I've mentioned have presumably already covered their costs, so I feel bad making the comparison; but those are the prices.

That comment at the end. Just so like Splat. You can just hear in his voice that he was going to do another full run to see what happens with the character selection there. Still a neat little game that doesn't seem to be too time consuming, and kind of neat overall. Needs a bit of work with some art and maybe sound design, but I think its worth the price at the moment.

This makes me think of Steamworld Heist, which was a fun 2d xcom lite with a smidge of Worms in the aim mechanics. But I'm imagining how that game couldve integrated some ftl mechanics. Wouldve been great!

for this specific tbs rpg tactics style, nothing beat skyshine's bedlam, i remember spent hundreds of hours playing, the artwork are wonderful. one of my favorite tbs game

early in the video you mentioned the combat camera of darkest dungeon, i actually dislike that and if they add that i hope they have a thing to disable it because i hate my camera being messed with. I like seeing the entire field of battle without it being moved unless i move it but adding animations and effects would be nice

Actually, Terminus is pretty good - my first time through I thought I was done for, just shy of my goal, too... and then, bullets everywhere! Boy, I'm glad those guys can aim. Sometimes the cake is real, it's nice.

I absolutely love the art style but the fights seem pretty meh. I think your suggestion of a dynamic camera would help for sure. It definitely needs something to improve the fights making then feel more impactful.

This game feels a lot like that game a year or so ago where there's a mist and you travel the map, art style game play style they're pretty similar. Can't for the life of me remember what it was called but I had it on my phone and on the Switch. Anyways this game feels very sparse right now, I'll wishlist to keep an eye but I'm not impressed as of yet.

Yeah the combat lacks any form of impact. When a dude smacks or shoots someone, there should be a sound effect, zoom in, screen shake, frame freeze ala Darkest dungeon, stagger or anything really. Satisfying combat in a game that is mostly about combat is the first thing the developer needs to hammer before tinkering with other stuff.

When you invoked FTL, I got worried, but fortunately the pursuit mechanic is absent. It made sense in FTL because of the premise. In about 90% of other games that use it, it's nothing more than an annoyance that's ham-fistedly forced in to artificially provide the difficulty that good game design should have.
